1. If you do Facebook, ask on here. There's bound to be someone local who can help. Mind you, I'm sure your gear is fine.
2.
True, very true. My reason for saying Fender is that a) I've never owned a vintage one, and in order to dip my toe into this murky and slightly dodgy world of vintage, so called vintage, fake vintage, Chinese vintage and the rest, I figured the safest and most easily verified way would be with a Fender. I am also of the opinion that a good bass guitar will always be better than me as I learn so I don't need to spend £10k, but at £2k I figure I can take that risk. I need to play more basses of any make. Cheers, Rich B
And, to be uncouth about it, unlike something custom-built. you're not going to lose a fortune as soon as you drive it off the forecourt. So to speak.
3. The currently-available micro-heads that I've tried just don't have it. They have to do all sorts of nonsense to 'sound' loud, which isn't quite the same as 'feeling' loud. IMO. Give me a lump of iron, please.
4. What's going on is this: if you were to look at what's being played under a microscope, you'd see a plethora of little pushes, pulls, ghost notes, mutes, variations in dynamics. All these transform the straight sequence of notes you're currently playing into the living, breathing soulful part you're aiming for. And it'll come - you just have to do it without thinking about it. And that's where experience comes in. It's good that you're thinking about at such an (presumably) early stage. But don't get too hung up on it. Chances are most of this will take care of itself subconsciously.
5. That's the bit that comes with experience. Just keep doing it.
6.
All of the Behringer and Bugera gear I've come across has been labelled "Made in China".
It could still be made in Rason in N. Korea. (I don't know if the previous poster has evidence that it is made in Rason. I don't.)
7.
DYNAMIZER Power Management technology for ultimate punch and to capture every nuance of your playing.
*shudder*
8.
Yes, 2000 watts (and only 1000 for the valve pre-amp version). Quite why they have to do this beats me - how many people will decide not to buy them through fear of damaging their speakers? Plus they`ve not got enough of a name in the bass amp market anyway. Keep them to the regular 500 watts which is plenty loud enough and if sales work out then add higher powered models. Seems daft to me.
Probably 2000 TC-style watts.
9. With that budget, Early 70s all the way. Prices are still reasonable-ish, they're generally well-built and a good weight, and they have a feel all of their own.
10. Dave's the man. His stuff is second-to-none.
11. Is Ronnie Corbett included?
12. They look half-arsed. I'd hoped Fender would take this opportunity to bring out something that would really get them back in the game. Ah, well.
13. I REALLY fancy a white fretted...
14.
Not to most bass players, I'm afraid.
Fender will be more interested in adding value to their brand then what the minority of bass players who are familiar with GB think.
15.
Thats a great marketing move by Fender, spend a lot of years building up a credible brand, incl all the brown paper bags of Greens to the Bass whisperer then hang it.... Watch out the bean counters are out.....
To be fair, a great bass amp with 'Fender' on the front of it is worth more to Fender than one with 'Genz Benz' on it.
16. Does it come with a handset?
17. I clicked on the link with a view to hating it intensely, what with it being dull muso-w*kery and all. But... it's pretty damn good. He's a hell of a drummer, and the production is fab.
18. This really is someone's ideal bass. If you want a lightweight, feature-laden, custom-build quality, versatile-yet-passive super Jazz, which will hold its value better than most, and plays like buttah, snap it up.
19. I hope he's managed to get rid of the nibbling rodents from his workshop...
20.
Having spoken to a chap who works for Fender last night, apparently the corporate plan is to "integrate the Genz technology into a new range of Fender amps." How well that'll work remains to be seen.
If they've got any sense, they'll just rebadge 'em. They'll be on to a winner.
21. ... is this. Discuss. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAbD1Sd-zs4
22. It went to me after cd_David, I think. No idea where it went after that...
23. Just sold a bass to Chris - the transaction was thoroughly pleasant, as you'd expect from such an established BC'er. Pleasure doin' business!
24.
Fair point. I still find it odd that people can quote the individual weight of basses they have/had...
Probably because finding out the weight of a bass *after* you've bought it is a bit too late.
25.
Is there a reason why people prefer light basses other than having shoulder pain from a heavy instrument?
The prevention of it?
