1.
I had an 11lb 12oz 70s Jazz which sounded like soup. And not good soup, either.
2.
Any my new Tony Franklin fretted weighs 8lb 12oz...
Yum.
 3. When this kind of thing happens, I tend to use Google. For example, Googling: site:basschat.co.uk "flying monkeys" ...will return every instance of Flying Monkeys. This method has the added bonus of ignoring all the nonsense in Off Topic, too.

 5.
Just checked. It appears that all Genz Benz and new Fender Rumble amps use the same Bang & Olufsen designed power sections, so Genz Benz innards are now in rumble amps :-)
I think pretty much all of the lightweights use the B&O ICEPower module. I really don't get on with it... I'm holding out for the next generation, whatever that may be.
 6. Well isn't that just a lovely bass at a nice price? GLWTS.
 7. Nice score. Always liked these.
I'd never heard of these before seeing this but it's beautiful! Where were they made? Must be rarer than hen's teeth!
There was an early US run, and then production shifted to Japan.
 8.
Is this bass not the Stu Hamm urge signature Mexican made bass? My pal has the Mexican made precision special (says special on it too) and it's a big bit different from your one.
Nope - this is definitely a Cowpoke MIM Special. Always wanted one - shame I don't live anywhere near the OP.
 9.
Most people's knee jerk reactions that it's red tape and a money making opportunity are normally based on bullshit.
Yep. See below.
But some contractors do take the piss by giving people wrong information so they can increase work.
Yep. See above.
 10. The point of PAT testing is wooly at best, and at worst it's a money-printing machine.
 11. Dave Wilson is in Haltwistle, east of Carlisle. There's no-one better... trusted by Mark Knopfler and Stefan Sobel.
 12.
Seen this posted before but worth another viewing, really enjoyable Zepp purists will be along presently to give it a slating
Meh.. I'm a big fan, but I wouldn't say I'm a purist. I just find it overblown and syrupy. And I HATE the way they resolve it at the end. But then, Zep were guilty of that too.
 13. EVERYTHING about this is awesome. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Rush-Fly-By-Night-Inspired-Bass-Guitar-/111268826587
 14.
The serial number is 549374, don't know if you can date it from that.
Within a year or to... '75-ish. You'd need to pop the neck off really.
 15.
It does "look" clean. Didn't black scratchplates come back around 1975 and bass-side thumbrests in 1976?
Nah - 74-ish.
 16. Hard to tell from two small photos, but I can't see anything the suggests it's not a well looked-after '74P. It might be a refin, but there's no reason why it has to be.
 17. I love these early-80s basses. So unique. Good luck with the sale.
 18. If there's a mic, pre via a DI. If there's no mic... post. Unless I go pre.
 19.
Mods: Is this allowed nowadays? i.e replying to a question on the thread within the 36 hrs? (Sorry if not!)
Answering questions is fine
 20.
How does "literally" fit in here? It's either quite funny or it's not. Where does literally come into it. Please advise. Many thanks.
Oi fink he's just using a bit of playful language. That's all.
 21. Just watched this on Netflix. God, it's good. Even if you just have a passing interest in the subject, give it a watch. It's a rock-doc benchmark.
 22. WTF? You made me click on this thread only to find there isn't a scene involving a bass guitar? I feel used.
 23. I have this bass's twin, and it'll go with me to my grave. It's a beautiful-sounding (and looking) thing. Good luck with the sale...
 24. If you do Facebook, ask on here. There's bound to be someone local who can help. Mind you, I'm sure your gear is fine.
 25.
True, very true. My reason for saying Fender is that a) I've never owned a vintage one, and in order to dip my toe into this murky and slightly dodgy world of vintage, so called vintage, fake vintage, Chinese vintage and the rest, I figured the safest and most easily verified way would be with a Fender. I am also of the opinion that a good bass guitar will always be better than me as I learn so I don't need to spend £10k, but at £2k I figure I can take that risk. I need to play more basses of any make. Cheers, Rich B
And, to be uncouth about it, unlike something custom-built. you're not going to lose a fortune as soon as you drive it off the forecourt. So to speak.
