1. I think the (lack of) activity in the gigs forum reflects the demand for it....
 2. Is it not the case that Neo magnets are much more efficient, with a denser magnetic field, resulting in an inherently stronger mid-range presence in some drivers? (I have no practical experience to back this up - nor am I saying it's a bad thing. I'm just repeating an explanation of the perceived difference that was given to me once...)
 3.
were you not quite positive in your reviews of the RH450 to begin with?
I was. For the first couple of weeks I was seduced by the flashing lights and buttons. The rot set in fairly quickly. Mind you, I stuck with it for a year.. Because of that and (to a much lesser extent) the Streamliner, I try not to say too much about new gear until the honeymoon period is over.
 4.
Although at your pro gigs, the big valve bass rig will be almost certainly be mic'd (if you're lucky or employing your own sound crew) into a PA comprised of Class-D power amps...
As mentioned earlier, for me it's more to do with the feel than the sound. And I don't think pro PAs powered by class D use the ICE Power module with clever processing to make the pro audio equivalent of 175w sound like 450w...
 5.
In an almost mirror experience, I've owned and gigged (amongst others) a TC RH450, a LMIII, a Streamliner 900, a Mesa Walkabout, a Mesa M-Pulse and an Ashdown Spyder 550. All the big ones went (actually quicker than the smaller ones) and I've kept the Streamliner. Coincidence? It's all about what the player notices, y'see...
Absolutely. And I've noticed something lacking from the Class D's I've used. A few other people have spotted it, too. It's not something that bothers other people. Yay them!
 6.
Sounds like a but of a generalisation to me, it's like saying all Neo cabs sound the same, they are all different in tone/ build and quality. I've owned/played 3 different class D amps, GB streamliner/ shuttlemax 9.2 and orange bass terror and all sounded completely different.
I've owned - for a decent chunk of time - an Acoustic Image Focus, TC RH450, Streamliner 900 and Ibanez Promethean... yep, they all sound different but just didn't cut it in the feel department in a similar sort of way. It's not immediate - it took me a while to realise with each that there was something missing (apart from the TC which I hated from the start. ha ha.). Coinicidence? Maybe. Maybe not. At least three of those use the same power module.
 7.
If you want that "Valve" sound, there's plenty of good valve pedals that do an excellent job. I couldn't tell you how well they compare, but if you're gigging & want an easy "in, out", then it's a no brainer. The punter isn't gonna know the difference between a heavy amp & class D.
But the player might. Surely that counts for something..?
 8.
+1 Sound is subjective. Weight and size are objective. On all objective fronts, Class D amps make more sense. If you happen to not like the sound then it sucks to be you;
Not really. My Walkabout is very light, and I use a pair of cabs that weigh 10kgs each....
 9. Yeah.. IMO while some of them sound good, they don't feel great. Again, emphasis on the IMO, etc.
 10. Don't get on with 'em. Mesa Walkabout for me...
 11. [Mod note: I've merged a couple of threads on the same subject. Carry on!]
 12.
Rather strange. If you read the description on GG web site, it says that the bridge pickup is in the mid 70`s position, closer to the bridge. Not only is it expensive but the pup is in the wrong place for a 72.
Closer to the bridge would be correct for a '72.
 13. He reminds me of Glenn Bulb out of Nighty Night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgvuuJU_P8I
 14.
I can't see that information on my iPad. Thanks.
Little tip - press 'Full Version' at the bottom of the page and all will be revealed... You don't really need to run the mobile version on the iPad.
 15. I had a GBE750 once. Beautiful. Unfortunately, it hummed like an angry bee whenever I went within five feet of it. Both Genz and the UK distributor spent a lot of time trying to resolve it, but without success. I had to send it back. Gutted, as I REALLY wanted to use it in the long term. Anyway, you can't beat an amp with a transformer in it. Class D? Meh.
 16.
People who can't spell or punctate properly annoy me. Don't ask why they just do !
*bites tongue*
 17.
More shipwreck than relic.
Shipwrelic.
 18. C'mon, folks... We can all disagree on stuff but let's keep it civil. Anyway... The vid was great IMO. Copeland has always been sloppy, so no change there. And I don't think they reformed because *Sting* was running out of money. I don't think that's possible.
 19. My P stays in tune for months. I check it before every gig, but sometimes I wonder why I bother.
 20.
If you can do woodwork like that, why can't you build a cab that doesn't look like it was knocked up by a blind man in a garden shed...!!
Way wrong.
 21.
I shake my head in disbelief. Some blokes have some fun together with the instrument that we all love, and that gives reason for a thread with this content?
If only they'd kept it behind closed doors.
 22.
For someone with such strong opinions on this you're remarkably good at getting the facts wrong! Some points to consider: 1. Panel stiffness is proportional to the square of the thickness, not the cube. 2. The resonant frequency of a panel is proportional to its stiffness divided by its mass - halve the mass and you double the resonant frequency 3. A braced panel has numerous different resonant modes - if you vary the bracing distance and methods all these frequencies can be made non-coincident 4. By having lots of different resonant modes you can easily lower the Q of all these resonances 5. Surface coatings and internal damping can significantly attenuate such low Q higher frequency resonances 6. Plywood varies hugely - for instance, baltic birch is stiff for its thickness but has poor self-damping Here's an example of how we do bracing:
KA-POW!
