1.
+1 Sound is subjective. Weight and size are objective. On all objective fronts, Class D amps make more sense. If you happen to not like the sound then it sucks to be you;
Not really. My Walkabout is very light, and I use a pair of cabs that weigh 10kgs each....
2. Yeah.. IMO while some of them sound good, they don't feel great. Again, emphasis on the IMO, etc.
3. Don't get on with 'em. Mesa Walkabout for me...
4. [Mod note: I've merged a couple of threads on the same subject. Carry on!]
5.
Rather strange. If you read the description on GG web site, it says that the bridge pickup is in the mid 70`s position, closer to the bridge. Not only is it expensive but the pup is in the wrong place for a 72.
Closer to the bridge would be correct for a '72.
6. He reminds me of Glenn Bulb out of Nighty Night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgvuuJU_P8I
7.
I can't see that information on my iPad. Thanks.
Little tip - press 'Full Version' at the bottom of the page and all will be revealed... You don't really need to run the mobile version on the iPad.
8. Are you *sure* about this?
9. I had a GBE750 once. Beautiful. Unfortunately, it hummed like an angry bee whenever I went within five feet of it. Both Genz and the UK distributor spent a lot of time trying to resolve it, but without success. I had to send it back. Gutted, as I REALLY wanted to use it in the long term. Anyway, you can't beat an amp with a transformer in it. Class D? Meh.
10.
People who can't spell or punctate properly annoy me. Don't ask why they just do !
*bites tongue*
11.
More shipwreck than relic.
Shipwrelic.
12. C'mon, folks... We can all disagree on stuff but let's keep it civil. Anyway... The vid was great IMO. Copeland has always been sloppy, so no change there. And I don't think they reformed because *Sting* was running out of money. I don't think that's possible.
13. Yip. Unless the tuners have been knocked.
14. My P stays in tune for months. I check it before every gig, but sometimes I wonder why I bother.
15. Have you PM'd him recently?
16.
If you can do woodwork like that, why can't you build a cab that doesn't look like it was knocked up by a blind man in a garden shed...!!
Way wrong.
17.
I shake my head in disbelief. Some blokes have some fun together with the instrument that we all love, and that gives reason for a thread with this content?
If only they'd kept it behind closed doors.
18.
For someone with such strong opinions on this you're remarkably good at getting the facts wrong! Some points to consider: 1. Panel stiffness is proportional to the square of the thickness, not the cube. 2. The resonant frequency of a panel is proportional to its stiffness divided by its mass - halve the mass and you double the resonant frequency 3. A braced panel has numerous different resonant modes - if you vary the bracing distance and methods all these frequencies can be made non-coincident 4. By having lots of different resonant modes you can easily lower the Q of all these resonances 5. Surface coatings and internal damping can significantly attenuate such low Q higher frequency resonances 6. Plywood varies hugely - for instance, baltic birch is stiff for its thickness but has poor self-damping Here's an example of how we do bracing:
KA-POW!
19.
Visual I can understand. But did you mean to add aural too?
I should bliddy well hope not.
20. I've just watched this again to check it's real, and noticed that the people in the audience don't have guns held to their heads. I can only assume that someone has smeared high-strength glue on all the chairs before the doors opened.
21. Jesus - I'm glad I'm already married. If that video goes viral, any bass players who are still single will die alone.
22.
Thing is, exactly which Rush would you like them to be? 80's synth rock? Excessive 70's Prog? They've changed so much over their career, and I think that's a good thing. How many people on here are writing the same style of stuff that they used to 30, 10 or even 2 years ago? People change, evolve and develop and their creative output reflects that.
It's not the style I have an issue with. It's the shoddy songwriting.
23. IIRC Antigua was never supposed to look like that. The paint went wrong.
24. .....however, we did get:
25.
would that be around the time this monstrous paint job escaped from the factory?
No.
