1. I think he's an awesome drummer. Very musical. The R'n'B influence in his style gave Genesis a feel that elevated them above other prog bands. IMO.
2. I think anyone buying a high-end bass as an investment is a little bit daft.
3. Wales, I think...?
4. I use a Walkabout, and I play quite a bit of country / roots. Have a look at thiis thread for some cabs that are a perfect match for the Walkabout, IMO... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/212014-tks-engineering-112-cabs-new-to-the-uk-review/
5. I should really add something to this thread, as it's what made me aware of TKS Engineering, Out outcome is that I got these, and couldn't be happier: 10kgs(!), ceramic drivers, steel grille under the cloth, and incredibly reasonably-priced. They're voiced very 'old school' which suits me (there are other lightweight cabs in the TKS range that have bigger lows), but a pair of them has all the authority I need, while a single cab gives me all I need for smaller gigs. Here's a thread with the full story...
6. I'd love a sunburst CS RH. I'd learn to love sunburst. If I didn't already.
7.
Oooh! Now that's nice! Available with tweeter?
Innit? I imagine it is - the current 112 is available with a tweeter...
8. As I mentioned earlier, TKS are about to launch some new, and redesigned cabs. Tommy's just posted an example of the design for the new cloth-grilled 112, which has had the port moved to the rear. Yum.
9. I also think there's 'volume' and 'volume'. In my experience so far, there's a characteristic of Neos that I don't quite gel with. It could well be that they're more accurate and efficient than ceramic drivers, which I imagine to some (most?) people would be a huge benefit. I'm using a couple of (extremely) lightweight 12s now, with ceramic drivers, and they give me the sound I've been looking for whilst saving my back from any more grief. It's a nice halfway house, I think.
10. Forgot to mention.. I'll be bringing this lot: ..and my Roscoe Beck IV. And, if the planets align, I'll be bringing some new gear along loaned by the manufacturer to give it its UK debut.
11.
I'm giving this another shout on Twitter, and I'll keep reminding our followers until the date
Thank you very much!
By the way, WoT, may I suggest unpinning the Staffs Bash (been and gone) and pinning this thread instead, alongside the SE Bash thread? You can do it cos you're a mod As always, please take photos and record stuff for the rest of us
Good idea - done :-)
12. Gospel is a thread that runs though so much music. I'm not keen on the shiny over-produced stuff - I like it with a bit of grit. Try the Staples Singers and Mavis Staples. Mavis' Hope at the Hideout live CD is fantastic. Aretha's gospel stuff is incredible. Listen to that live recording of The Old Landmark. I disagree about gospel without religion being gospel-lite. They're just songs about love, life and death, like most others.
13.
A lot of this is nostalgia guys, coupled with your change in musical tastes and abilities.
No it isn't.
14. Another part of the reason I can't get on with CA is the concept. Steampunk? C'mon... It's so cheesy a 12-year-old Dr. Who fan would struggle to could dig it. Bear in mind I'm someone who has adored the band for most of my life, and I still do. They just frustrate me at the minute.
15. Yeah - there's some good tunes on it, but (IMO) it's not the return to form it's made out to be. Maybe part of the problem is that albums are too long these days. There's bound to be some filler. And some of the interludes are straight off a 90s Marillion album. At least Geddy's playing bass properly again :-)
16. I think I used 'IMO' a couple of times earlier in the thread.
17. I don't mind prog or poppy, as long as the tunes are good. But they ain't.
18. The lyrics are still very 'Neil'. It's the music that's suffered.
19.
Well I even like Caress of Steel, so that shows how much a fan I am , Its all down to taste and some like them, some don't, but no one can deny that their popularity has grown and grown over they years. Ok, the 80's keyboard phase was not to everyones taste, but that was the style of the music at that time. They were experimenting with different styles. How boring would it be if a band came out with the same album year after year? Bands have to evolve, especially when their career has spanned 4 decades
IMO that's the whole problem - they've stopped evolving. VT, S&A, CA... It's all getting a bit Samey... riffs stitched together. Consider the 3-album jump from Permanent Waves to Signals. Or Grace Under Pressure to Hold Your Fire. Massive leaps with great songs at the core.
20. This thread is now stuck in a loop. A tedious one, at that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hZrXdJ-ibo
21. That's Kev. Well-loved laddie from this neck of the woods, and as from this Wednesday, owner of my 1971 Jazz. Here he is in action with his other turn... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2hSpIBpG4w
22.
I agree. I've been to Morzine and back for a wedding and this is still blocking the inter-waves?
Right on! The best way to let this thread die is by bumping it to complain that it's rumbling on forever.
23.
I am only too happy to answer ANY questions that you may have concerning my past 16 or so years, indeed, any other topics may also be considered.
Oh... Me first! Conservatories are too hot in summer and too cold in winter: Is this myth or fact?
24.
I feel the same about my Compact. And the Vintage was even more of the same!
It was your Vintage that made me realise what I was missing... :-)
25. FWIW, since getting the TKS 112s, I've been enjoying mids like never before. I just don't feel I have to be as loud. The cabs don't have massively low extension or sizzly highs - they just 'speak' in a way that suits my style - like that fat tone on classic 70s recordings. At larger gigs, running the two of them gives me all the authority I need.
