1.
Yep. And I have no problem paying the costs/taxes for stuff imported from the States, I just like to know in advance whether I will be charged, and how much. Is that a lot to ask?
Just admit it, man. You're no better than Starbucks.
 2.
Got back late from work but had a play and its truly lovely. Very happy indeed.
Yay!
Pics will have to wait, sorry, bit mad at work for next two days!
Boo!
 3.
Just wondering if any of the contributors to this thread (those wondering how to avoid import tax) were outraged with Starbucks, Amazon etc. for their tax avoidance antics.
I was.
 4. Cheers, all. I've gone ahead with the order to see what happens. if I get stung.. I'll be on the hunt again. But then I'll have two sets of flats to get through so it'll be about ten years' time.
 5. Yeah... I think it's the right decision. I was going to sell my J instead, but I've just listened to a recent recording of it and it sounds great. Bugger it - I'll keep the lot.
 6. Hi all My little part-time acoustic-ish trio did a gig up in the wilds of Northumberland a couple of weeks ago, and the chap that runs the gig records it, and videos it. He put one of the clips up on YouTube today and I'm pretty happy with it. The bass is the DI out the back of the Mesa Walkabout. I'm very happy with the sound. 7. Can you let me know what happens, Clarky? Milty - I just asked them that very question. We'll see what they say...
 8. I was overjoyed to discover that Lakland flats are back in stock after being unavailable for a while. I popped my order in a couple of days ago and accepted the usual total of $34. I've just had an email from a nice man at Lakland to say they've been charging the wrong postage all this time - it should be nearer $12 - and did I want to proceed. I reckon that'll push the total into silly import tax charges territory, so I asked for a refund instead. Drat. After the one set I have remaining, nice-but-pricey-and-not-the-same La Bellas, or not-as-good-IMO-Chromes here I come. :-(
 9. The only issue(s) I have with Ashdown are their appalling visual design, comical attempts at marketing and the fact they released the Little Giant and Superfly. Apart from that, I don't hate them.
 10.
The title track's a belter though and I'm not their biggest fan as a rule.
Of Long Road Out Of Eden? Yeah - it's a good'un. Not sure one the 'Eastern' intro and interlude, though. They're a bit 90s...
 11.
Has Guy Pratt been in Pink Floyd longer than Roger Waters yet?
Probably, but I don't think he wrote any of their hits ;-)
 12.
I may have to watch this, I loved the Eagles for a year or two when I was 18ish (super cool I was, this was in the mid-90s) Always felt that once Bernie Leadon left it all got a bit sh*t though. I am right in thinking that Timothy B/ Schmidt really was only on 1 album though aren't I? So all this reunion stuff is largely lies isn't it? When you get Leadon, Meisner, Frey and Henley to do the gig, I might want to see it.
Tim's a great player too. His lines on The Long Run are great. Yep - he was only around for the last album and tour, and the 'new' album (which is mostly junk IMO) but, in total, he's technically been in the band far longer than Randy. I don't agree that they went t'pot after Bernie left. The post-Leadon albums are awesome, IMO.
 13. Common sense has prevailed - withdrawn.
 14.
I'm in two minds about the Eagles. They're just a bit too sterile.
I hear this a lot about the Eagles, and it's something I've never understood. 'Sterile' to me is the shiny, polished stuff that comes out of Nashville. The Eagles canon is just meticulously arranged songs played incredibly well. IMO, of course.
 15. Fretless Ps make a beautiful noise. Good luck with the sale!
 16.
Watching the DVD - during the section about Bernie Leadon pouring the beer over Glen Frey's head - I was thinking, "why is the theme tune to The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy playing in the background? ". A quick google search revealed thst the theme tune was sctually a segment of the Eagles' track "Journey Of The Sorcerer". Well I never, who would have guessed? https://www.youtube....be_gdata_player
That tune is burned into my psyche. Whenever I used to go for car journeys with my dad when I was a nipper, I'd ask him to put One Of These Nights on, on JotS in particular. I adore it.
 17. That reminds me - what about a gig up Newcastle way, Guy? Go on.
 18. Welcome aboard! Hopefully everyone can kiss and make up.
 19. By the way - if you're thinking about buying it, unlike the US version the Blu-Ray doesn't have the bonus concert disc. IMO it's essential, but you only get it with the DVD.
 20. (Yeah, yeah.. I know. I couldn't possibly get any uncooler anyway.) I picked up the new Eagles documentary last week - four hours of interviews and archive footage tracing the history of the band. It's incredibly well put together, and it doesn't shy away from the battles between various members, management, etc. All very revealing stuff. I'd hate to be in a band with Glenn Frey (but the money could ease the pain). The big thing for me is that there are interviews (current and archive) with Randy Meisner. IMO the guy is a legend, but he pretty much disappeared after leaving the band. It's great to hear him talk about his days as an Eagle. I got the version with the bonus live DVD from 1977 - it's the footage that produced the live version of Hotel California you always used to see on MTV, but the audio and video has been restored and it's astonishing. Randy's playing a Rick with flats and it sounds great, and when he sings Take it to the Limit... whooah. I know 90% of you won't agree, but... what a great band they were.
 21. Lovely, lovely basses! I'm had my IV for sale, but I'm pulling it because I love it so much. So blimmin' flexible. AND cool-looking.
 22. Your measured response doesn't change that, IMO, it looks like someone was sick onto a bit of paper and decided to use that as as the template.
 23.
They felt cumbersome, stiff and had a tacky/resisistant feel straight out the box and were no good for sliding with,
Giving them a good rub with an old cotton t-shirt helps to shift the tacky feeling.
 24.
Seconded! And proof of the flaws in the "tens for mid-punch and fifteens for bass" argument
Actually, if I'm not sorted with something by June, I might be knocking on your door cap-in-hand again.
