1.
On the other hand you might have come onto an internet forum just to have a bit of a moan, in which case - job done!
..and christ knows you've come to the right place to do it. What we really need is a moaners' sub-forum. Mods?
2.
Christ, you're in Newcastle - that seems a pretty good description of a night on the toon with perhaps a slightly different soundtrack!!
No, no. In Newcastle it's: 'The average Joe wants to find a chick , cut a rug , brawl, go for a kebab and get laid...' with a slightly different soundtrack.
3. Oh, dear me. I thought he was talking about Denmark. Where in the UK are you?
4.
That was then (60's) , this is now
Fair point, but to be honest I think you've done well to escape a place where ' The average Joe wants to find a chick , cut a rug , brawl and get laid with the Stones and ZZ Top covers cranked.'
5. Places like Denmark kept the Wolf and Muddy Waters going when they couldn't get a gig back home.
6. The older Promethean would be a great choice... IF you can get a good one.
7. Basschat is attracting some interesting people these days.
8. The DVD is still in progress (it's a mammoth task) but in the meantime, here's a time-lapse of the set-up and soundcheck.... http://vimeo.com/62434633
9.
Did you ever use any other RH's besides your own one ? I'm wondering if yours was faulty.
Nah, but quite a few other owners were of the same opinion, so it's safe to assume it was OK. Unless there was a faulty batch, of course. Plus, I think the new owner was happy enough. After I sold it, and I read about the 'true' output and the power management system, and it all made sense.
10.
Think i'll pack a flask and sandwiches and sit in Bassdirect all day.
I'm not sure the characteristics I disliked so much about the TC would have been apparent playing solo in a shop. I can never evaluate an amp until I've gigged it a few times in different environments. Whatever it is I look for in an amp, the TC just didn't have it. Don't let that put you off, though - plenty of people really like them.
11. I had a couple of the bigger Neo Schroeders for a few years. They are very middy, but they also had a noticeable hole in the upper-mids. Eventually the general boxiness of the tone got wearing. All IME, of course.
12.
A few times, not many by all means, it has felt like there was no presence/meat to the tone.
If you feel that way about the SA450, IMO give the TC a wide berth.
13.
what was so bad about it?
Just not to my tastes, I suppose. I had it for a year and gigged it extensively. To me, it sounds like what it is - a low-powered amp that employs clever circuitry to remove all the steel, energy and dynamics from the signal to make is 'as loud as' a 450w amp. Some people call it 'tubey', and like it - I didn't, so I sold it.
14. The RH450 was not my friend. I'd rather play giant elastic bands than use that amp again.
15. Have a word with Howard The Bass Doc. He's got a lot of good contacts for this stuff.
16. Are you not thinking of www.bassgear.co.uk, Truck?
17.
As ever. Billy is bang on the money...
He believes we were brought to this earth billions of years ago by the leader of The Galactic Confederacy, so I'd dispute you there.
18. Marillion were a band I really tried hard to get into back in the day (all my pals were well into them around the time of Brave) but... every time the drummer plays a fill it sounds like he's playing a different song. It totally ruins it for me.
19.
s Doc' timestamp='1364409526' post='2026144'] Psst, wanna see what genuine roadworn looks like? My 1963:-[/sup]
...and here's what it sounds like, through a Barefaced Compact: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCyD829YY1M Gan on, Doc!
20. Hello! Yip... I've had a torrid time trying to choose between this and the Walkabout. I've been tearing my hair out (as any of my Facebook BC pals will attest - I've had one for sale, then the other, then changed my mind...). The Aggie is far more practical (higher output, mute, post / pre DI), and kicks like a mule, but for the gigs I've got coming up the sound guys are used to my Walkabout and do great things with it. I've realised the tubes in the Walkabout are just more me. It's been a pleasure A/B-ing them for the last six weeks or so, mind.
21. I'd love to be in this gang. There's some sweeeet basses in this thread. Maybe one day I will be...

24. Apart from the recent downtime due to implementation of the charging system, and CloudFlare's current blip, BC is generally pretty stable (apart from the clientele). You know what they say about crap - sometimes it happens. And it's happening now. But soon it won't be. So stop your moaning, moaners!
25.
I don't buy the notion that buying British makes you some kind of nazi. Way to go in hijacking a celebration of British endeavor for your own suspect motives.
Did you use 'way to go' and 'endeavor' in an ironic kind-of way? ;-)
