1. Just done one of them showcase gigs in a student bar in town with my fledgling originals band, to a handful of interested people, for no money. I enjoyed it.
 2. When I were a lad, I couldn't be a*rsed to learn to read. All my time went into developing my ear.
 3. Unfortunately bubble wrap isn't adequate, and FedEx will walk away. One for the 'down to experience' pile, I'm afraid.
 4. My little Behringer Eurorack mixer has worked like a champ for years. I think it cost about the same as a packet of crisps and a bottle of irn Bru.
 5.
Why didn't you say that then?
Because to me, it's all music. And I don't really distinguish between the two to any degree.
 6.
Sounds like you should work towards being originals then mate.
We do. We have a full set of originals, and we do original-only gigs. But the songs are so good, we play some in the covers set too, and the punters appreciate it. This, in turn, it drums up interest in the original gigs. Like I say, simple.
 7.
Another thing I find hard to understand is covers bands who chuck in a few originals into the set. What does that achieve?
Just to focus on this comment... It's simple, really. One of my bands, which is less established than the others, has a personality split between covers and originals. The covers get us the gigs, and the originals are so good (IMO) they fit right in amongst pretty distinguished company. Punters now know the tunes, and shout out for them.
 8.
Man, you have some nice basses! Is the PJ the custom shop special from 2012? - never seen one except on the Fender website. Our wateroftyne will be drooling over that one!
Yeah - beautiful things. Prefer the 'burst, though. :-)
 9.
I can't imagine what playing in a covers band down the pub might be like.
It's a bit like getting paid to go to the pub with your mates. And much more fun that sitting on one's ar5e watching telly of a Saturday night.
 10.
You don't play Sex on Fire do you There are a few (and I stress few) bands I've seen doing covers that are different and that the band obviously enjoy playing. If I could find like minded people that would be great, as a fun side project. However, most covers bands, it seems, walk a well trodden path.
Nope - it's a Sex on Fire wasteland. I do get to play covers by Warren Zevon, Loudon Wainwright III, The Traveling Wilburys, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, BB King.. and loads more. It's far from a hardship :-)
 11.
Covers bands are hard work. Learning all those songs, most of which I wouldn't normally give time of day to on my iPod.
I'm lucky in that I really like the covers I play. Life's too short to play stuff you don't like.
 12.
That's fair enough, do you write? Do you get a kick from presenting your own creations that transcends playing other people's music?
I get a kick out of playing well at nice gigs. I write in a band context, and I've been playing original material since I was a nipper. To be honest, it all merges in to one big ball of bass-playing fun.
 13. I do covers and originals. I couldn't give a stuff who wrote the tunes. They're either good or they're not.
 14. [Pedant mode ON] CITV = ITV (yuk) Zingzillas is on CBeebies. [Pedant mode OFF]
 15. 1980 is just prior to the management buy-out which dragged the company out of the doldrums. if you'd only been born a year later...
 16.
'Tis true, but my Laklands are great and cost me around £28 - imported from Chicago.
I usually pay about £22...?
 17. Actually... I've just checked my junk mail folder, and there's the Princess Diana email, sent to 'basschat@....'. Like Dark Lord, I use specific email addresses for each service I sign up for, and I don't use 'basschat@...' anywhere else. Hmm...
 18. I appreciate that it's expensive for Rush to bring the full production to Europe, but frankly I'd rather they left most of it in Canada. What do you watch? The lights? The big tellies? The gizmos? There's a band in there somewhere... the rest is just fluff.
 19.
I'd love to hear "Here again". But I'm not holding my [s]fire[/s] breath...
'Before and After' for me. What a great song and performance that is....
 20.
I just hope they do lots of stuff from Permanent Waves - Moving Pictures - Signals. That was MY Rush.
Time will tell...
 21.
Ditto. I agree that Clockwork Angels is crap, and they're probably going to do ALL of it. But they're also going to do the whole of **** and lots of other old stuff. And this may be the last time they tour like this. Neil Peart's apparently finding it hard to do 3-hour sets these days.
Careful with setlist spoilers, eh? I don't think they're doing the whole thing - just a part of it. As for lots of old stuff - it depends on your definition. I'd call it mid-period stuff. Which is fine by me, 'cos I love it. Still not going, though.
 22.
How do I find out if point 2 is happening?
Check point 1. If they definitely aren't in your junk mail, it's a fair bet you're point 2.
