1. I'm thinking that many engineers don't know how to mix bass anymore. The fretless P is the best of the bunch. It's hard to knack a P in a mix.
2. Sorry - I meant have you tried them yet. I don't know about the similarity to the GHS - your experience doesn't mirror my experience with the Lakkies, FWIW.
3. Tip-top. Cheers Ped & the devs!
4. 'Tis a fair point. The way I look at it is this: Basschat is a street full of people, chatting away. Previously, the street had shops on it. While people were chatting, they sometimes saw something in a shop window that interested them. Now, the shops have been relocated to an alleyway off the street. The only people who go there are people looking for something to buy and know where to go, or those casual browsers who remember to pop in on the way past. ...of course, it could be that there's still a big chunk of development to come that will integrate the classifieds with the wider community. If that's the case, ignore everything I'm rambling on about. :-)
5. If it's going to cost development money to finish the classifieds, I'd think long and hard before carrying on... removing the classifieds from the everyday community is a massive backwards step, and I can see no good come of it. Just my tuppenceworth..
6. The single-camera shoot from the rehearsal on the bonus DVD is great... The bass is clearer.
7.
Yes we're feeling the difference mainly due to the mobile theme issues.
Blimmin' mobile users! *sheepish look* I wonder how much of any fall in traffic is due to users no longer having to log on to follow threads? (Sorry to be curious. This stuff is my day job.)
8. Ped... Is there a possibility that the clickthrough ratio on ads has dropped since the constant thread updates problem began? It must have affected traffic to the site, surely?
9. I just picked up the live box set. The new mixes are mint... What an improvement....
10. Just watched the Blu ray... Amazing. They're having so much fun, and young Bonham is a star. Yep, the bass is a bit lost - all subby lows and roundwound zing with no mids. The fretless P fares a bit better. He plays it like a demon though.
11.
I'm currently learning Alannah Myles - Black Velvet.... And am grateful I have a 5 string The original starts on a D# so on a 4 string the recommendation is to drop tune ALL strings by a semitone!!!!! On my 5 string.... Not an issue It's a curious song...... As about 70% of it it banging out loud root notes.... The other 30% is challenging little flurries, lots of 8th notes.... We are trying it in next weeks band practice, so I have the weekend to either nail the hard bits or dumb it down!!
...originally played on a synth bass. Truth is, if you play it at the octave on a 4-string, no-one but anoraks will notice....
12. If you delete an app, it goes from the iPad but you still 'own' it, so you can download it again any time you please.
13. Due to receiving an offer faaaar too good to refuse, I've just learned: Barry White - I Love You Just The Way You Are (Good fun.) Chris De Burgh - Lady In Red (Hateful. Like musical vomit.)
14.
Ped, on the 'forums' home page it used to indicate the date/time of the last post against each forum. Now it just indicates the number of topics and replies. The last post date was useful as a quick way of scanning which forums had been updated since you last looked. Any chance of resurrecting this? Or maybe I'm the only person who found it useful, in which case please ignore!
The 'View new content' button is the way... hit that, and you're presented with all the new posts on a shiny plate. :-)
15.
it does, but a lot of it was 'bull': 'wish I had the money'... 'if I hadn't just just bought a Porche I'd 've had this' etc etc
And now there's... Gumtree in a BC frock. That said, I appreciate the reasons.
16. Ah - OK. Cheers, Ped. It does feel like the social element has been removed from the classified side of things, which is a shame. I'm sure I'll get used to it... eventually.
17. Sorry if I missed this already, but the classified ads don't seem to be listed in 'view new content' for the forum. Is this likely to change, or is that how it is? Ta!
18. Mobile site back up, too. Yay! Cheers, all.
19.
That's v nice but I don't like black basses. There's a dilemma with vintage basses for me - I can see the point of the first production Stingray (another current thread) being this expensive as it's really a museum piece and v interesting (to me at least) with a famous ex owner - but this is a pretty anonymous Fender Jazz that hasn't been played much - OK 45 + years old but is it REALLY worth that much? If a colour came up that I really like I might be more tempted.
Maybe not worth that much, but it's worth a lot. It doesn't need a famous ex-owner to be worth a few quid. Such is Fender.
20. From the photos? You can't. It doesn't look wrong, though. Buyer beware, and all that.
21. ...and while I'm on the subject of the band speaking frankly, if any of you haven't read 'Chapter & Verse', you should. It's great.
22.
I would be in agreement were it not for the frankly hideous Battle of Epping Forest. Such a shame, as the rest of the album is as close to perfection as anything, and the rest of the tracks are probably Genesis' finest.
If you haven't seen them, watch the interviews they did for the 5.1 remixes. They're all on YouTube. They band talk very frankly about a lot of things (particularly Tony), including regret at making Epping Forest so busy. The band (bar Hackett's) hatred of After the Ordeal will make you wince. Poor Steve.
23. Pointless fact - my copy of Seconds Out on CD (many years old) had a typo in the lyrics: 'The lava's the lover who licks your boobs away.'
24.
Wembley was 1987 Although during the 1986 leg of the tour in the USA, the ITC medley was Cage/Quiet Earth/Apocalypse in 9/8, which was pretty cool.
I'm glad we didn't get that in the UK, 'cos that means they would have had to drop the marvellous R'n'B medley encore to make room. Can you imagine?
