I used to help look after some pigs owned by Robert Plant when I was a kid. Not sure how that's relevant, but heh.
Black Hog? Featuring John Bon-ham on drums?

Shall I sweep the floor with my a*se whilst I play bass?
wateroftyne replied to tonyclaret's topic in General Discussion
Well that's the thing. It might be worth learning the tunes and (God forbid) rehearsing for a dep if there's the possibility of more deps in the future. but as third-in-line, chances are you won't be needed again. Unless you're better the second-in-line, of course, then you might nick his gig. There's no right or wrong, I suppose. Do it if you want, don't if you don't. -

That's fairy nuff. I always try to be pro-"be nice to people" - I've never understood slagging people off for the sake of it. I haven't listened to their music, so I have no idea whether I like them or not, and if I didn't I probably wouldn't shout about it. Unless I've missed something though, I can't see any personal attacks on the band. Just criticism of their judgement, and their music... put yourself out in the real world, and it's unavoidable. You should see some of the comments I get on my YouTube clips. They would make your toes curl. Interestingly they're usually from bedroom players who would mess their trousers at the thought of an audience. -

Any band that performs in public for money, or puts themselves up for scrutiny on t'internets, has to deal with negative comments. If they can't handle it, they're in the wrong game. -
I think its selfish at worst and self depreciating at best. The band has already acknowledged their impact on popular music, they're every bit as significant as The Beatles. They should share it...if nothing it would cement their place in musical immortality.
You mentioned earlier that there was something 'magical' about them. One of the biggest contributing factors to this - which Page and Grant got spot-on - is their reluctance to do TV shows, release singles etc. etc. all the way through to a refusal by some of the band to do a reunion tour. It all feeds the fire of the Zeppelin myth. It hurts - I adore them and I'd love to see 'em.

I hardly ever have to rehearse for deps... In fact I usually try and avoid it. -
Did you actually email them and ask what you can have for free? Wow.. that's an interesting way to kick off negotiations..

Technology And Music...Good Or Bad?
Willie Weeks’ famous bass solo on Donny Hathaway's live album was recorded at a gig months after the main track was recorded, and they were spliced together in the studio. Can you hear the join? I can't.
I can't let this go unchallenged. :-) What's your source? -
It sounds more like 'I Want To Break Free' than 'A Kind Of Magic'. Actually, it sounds like both. And Faith.
I assume you are referring to me!
I don't think he was - I think he's referring to the comment by MegaBradley01.

Who cares what it's like solo'd? The track sounds great. That's Deacy for you - a proper 'band' bass player. It's all about the song. That's what bothers me about recording these days - so much emphasis and time spent on fixing microscopic details and polishing individual tracks. Yawn.

Having played original material and covers for over 20 years, I've learned this about myself: I literally couldn't care who wrote the song I'm playing. If it's a good song, it's a good song.

Job, two kids, lots of demands on my time, but... I jut find the time. Rather than read a book or watch a film, I'll work on tunes. It's either that or I look a right eejit when I play all the wrong notes...

Here's a clip from a gig this weekend... I'm playing a fretless P for most of the set, which is a nice change... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ-46YU0nnM

Flats are only dull and lifeless if you EQ 'em like that.

Ibanez launches new Promethean model P3110 (300W)
wateroftyne replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Amps and Cabs
Oh. One of the fab things about the 5110 is that it doubles as my back-up head. This new one wouldn't be much use to me now... -

Cripes - just noticed the price. If it's reliable, it's a bargain... -

The new design is cool... I don't see the point in the spec tweaks, though FWIW the lack of a mute doesn't bother me as I always use mute-able jacks. The EQ is handy for scooping a bit of boxiness out during solo noodling. Still, it's a strange update.. (Also, the DI isn't a new addition) -
Very, very cool! You get to meet any of the Lindisfarne guys? Alex
Forgot to clarify, Alex - the drummer at these gigs is Ray, a founder member of the band, and the front-man is Billy who was the latter-day front-man after Hully shuffled off this mortal coil. Ray's a lush drummer - he's so much fun to gig with. Mr. Feel. -
It really bugs me as I search for something and most of it comes from the US
That's not really eBay's fault though, eh?

Cheers, folks!
Love it when bands don't have the drummer in the centre of the stage. How did you find it with that moving head right next to you? Rig looks cool by the way.
Yeah, it's great. The drummer can see right across the stage and clock what's going on. He loves it. Plus, it means the projection screen doesn't have to be flown so high. I'm generally at the mic, so that vari-lite is usually behind me, off to one side. The whole shebang looks great when it's in full flight... I'll post some pics soon!
Nice one! Getting to play Lindisfarne tracks must be highly enjoyable work
It is! I play my fretless P on about half the songs, just like on the original records. Rod Clements is a great player, so it's a pleasure to play his lines.
Very, very cool! You get to meet any of the Lindisfarne guys? Alex
I'm pals with most of 'em, so yes. Lovely bunch.
Looks like an amazing show , wouldn't mind catching it if you do any down here in pasty land
We have gigs coming up in the Midlands, North Wales and Durham, and then we're doing a more comprehensive tour next year. I'll post the dates here when I have 'em! -
Great for a dreamy Sunday afternoon.
Thank you - they were great songwriters. Still are, in fact.
