1. No news, then...?
2.
I'd be interested. But I have seen one on ebay for £400 with a cab. I would only be willing to pay £300?
This kind of chat is best kept to PM's, I think...
3. Yeah, but I prefer the 'usual' approach you find on most forums (and BC before the migration) - i.e. you get a single notification when there's a reply. My inbox is creaking under the weight of people congratulating me on my various witticisms.* *not really. it is rammed, though.
4. Hi folks Just wondering if there's any fix on the horizon for this one?
5.
I never use the Mesa DI unless I'm in the studio where I can EQ for the recording, most of the time I need the eq to make the the bass sound good in the room and that would equate to a lousy DI tone to the PA.
It's a fair point. Most of my EQ'ing involves rolling off the low lows, which brings out the low mids, calms the boomy rumble and helps avoid 'death by sub-bass' - something far too many engineers revel in. It generally makes for a tighter signal to the desk.
6.
That doesn't make one quantifiably better than the other. Obviously in your opinion class Ds don't sound as good, but that is just an opinion
Hence the IMO prefix.
7. That's why I went for the Walkabout. It's not a monster to lug about.
8.
WoT, when you have the time could you send me the schematic for the mod (or link it in this thread)? I could put some pics of my progresses here to help someone in the future with the same question.
Here ye go. Actually, looking at it, you might want to get a better copy from Mesa, It'll give you an idea, though...
9.
I think you've got the list of strong contenders Clarky. I'd go for the Shuttle 9.2 or the MB800...if you don't mind a little larger, the Streamliner 900. IMO and IME the latest Genz gear is a massive step up in Class D micro amps.
IMO and IME it's a step up, but there's still daylight between it and an amp with a lump'o'iron in it.
10. Yip.. the Walkabout is plenty loud, and the DI is to die for.
11. I'm not impressed with class D, or the shenanighans used to inflate their power ratings. Back to the Walkabout for me. 300 hairy-arsed man-watts. None of these 'diet watts'...
12. I've got a copy of the schematic if you'd like it. I intended to do the mod, but the reality is I've never had a problem with it. I just let the techies know that it's post-everything, so if my signal jumps, at least they know why. Sound people can handle this kind of thing....
13. Excellent! My dad has a room full of old H||H stuff... he still has the Dual Concentric PA cabs that we used to gig with when we were kids...
14. I reckon the fact they didn't take off is quite telling..
15. Me too... It's Under African Skies. Wanted to see this for yonks. Thanks!
16.
Just ordered some Lakland Flats on your recommendation. No pressure, obviously.
Ha! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
17. IME the Laklands are as smooth as the La Bella FLs, with a little bit more going on in the upper mids. The Chromes were, IMO, stiffer and brighter altogether.
18.
What do you intend to use it for? "Acoustic" gigs? Noodling at home? Something else?
Yeah - I'd be intrigued to know, too. Then again, I've never quite seen the point of acoustic basses.
19. Lovely, lovely heads these. 300w might not seem a lot these days, but in this faddy environment of inflated micro-amp wattages, it's worth pointing out that these are 300 hairy-arsed Mesa 'man watts'. I regularly run mine at 8ohm, putting 150 hairy-arsed Mesa 'man-watts' into a 2x10, and I've never struggled for volume. Have a bump.
20. Or, you can buy the mp3 online for about 60p.
21. As an aside, that's him (and Mick Fleetwood) on Werewolves of London, too. Zevon recorded it with various rhythm sections - including his regular guys - with no joy. McVie and Fleetwood nailed it.
22.
Great minds think alike 'n' all. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/180272-fender-jazz-hollow-body-gas-jap/
Whoops - my bad. Mods, feel free to merge....
23. How odd. More info here (in Japanese, obv.)
24. Here you are. Don't worry that you're buying from the US - they arrive in about a week, and you don't have to pay any duty.
25.
Or does anyone have flats for sale or know where I could get them dirt cheap?
How cheap is dirt cheap? You can get Lakland flats for about £22, and they're great.
