1.
I ordered direct from Classic Rock too. Nigel, what's your surname? If your name is on the poster that should mean it's on the way.
Are you in the UK? Was it delivered today...?
 2.
Looks like a 'B' width on the P (good!), also a TV logo. Curiously post TV logo on the J.
Antiguas were '78, so the J actually has the 'correct' logo.
 3.
That does look very interesting, and I tend to like the Mesa models in Line 6, if that's worth anything... What cabs do you use with it? And why did you grow to dislike the TC?
I use Berg HS210s. I disliked the TC because I hated the way it crushes dynamics. Some might call it 'tube-like'(!)... I call it squishing the life out of of the output to get away with saying it's a 450w head. Fan noise on the Walkabout has never been a problem for me - I've had two.
 4. Ours (tomorrow) is in a big marquee. Rain or shine!
 5. Didn't get on with the TC at all. I grew to dislike it intensely. The Streamliner was far better, but it didn't work for me at volume - the dynamics seemed to suffer. Mesa Walkabout does it fer me. It's a bit heavier and larger than the micros, but it's not big by any means.
 6.
The J has dots... is the only way. Then again some like blocks, so come on Fender, you have cnc machines, the cost difference between blocks and dots is pence. Both should be offered Question is will it craze like 70s finish, and do you want crazing or not?
The 70s Antigua finish was a thick layer of gloop. It doesn't craze.
Actually, looking at the pics, it appears that the Jazz has a bullet truss rod adjuster, but the Precision looks to have one of those awful fake truss rod adjusters. My Road Worn Strat has one of those fake paint things. Great guitar, but I feel uncomfortable about that part of it.
The Precision seems to have has a walnut truss plug, which is normal for a maple-necked 70s P...?
Not my thing at all. I can understand why they don't bring this finish out too often. Just Google'd Antigua, and apart from the Caribbean Island, it also means ancient in Spanish. So maybe it some sort of ancient-y antique-y finish... Looks like frosted icing to me.
IIRC, it was supposed to be a blue / grey burst. But it went wrong, and they kept it like that.
Wasn't JJ Burnel's green bass antigua too?
No. By the way, here's the one I used to have:
 7. WTF does the J have dots? Plonkers...
 8. My preorder is in, but I'm not hopeful for the new CD....
 9. Ashdown's marketing is so shabby.
 10. I gave up on tiny heads, and bought a Mesa Walkabout which, for me, is a perfect balance between size, weight, headroom and tone.
 11.
Looks good, but where is it made? if thats MIM that price is a bit steep IMO.
It's about average for a special edition MIM.
 12. I have two this weekend, one of which is this:
 13. Not that I could ever afford one, but the square bottom looks fugly. IMO. I'm sure it'll sound great though.
 14. It's such a fine line between jazz and shred...
 15. Here's a tune from my gig last night - it's the Walkabout DI through the PA. I love the DI on this thing...
 16. Friends, it's my sad duty to inform you that.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItZyaOlrb7E This dummer is at TEH RONG GIG!
 17.
Whilst I appreciate the 'nostalgia' thing, surely a guitar/bass made 50+ years ago, can't be better than modern guitars/basses that are hand-crafted by the top luthiers of today for a fraction of the price. So why do people want to spend so much money on a bass that will probably have dodgy electrics, worn frets, cracked/chipped and 'dodgy' paintwork, neck/truss rod problems, corroded hardware...etc...etc...? Of course, I am only winding you up, but surely if a these old classics are that great, why can they not be reproduced to the exact specs, and therefore sound and play just as good? I know Fender produce models based on so-called 62's, 63's and so on, but are they as good, and if so, do they not satisfy the craving for that classic sound and vibe, or is it just the 'original' thing that is all important? I really am intrigued (but don't understand) by this obsession with vintage instruments. I am ready to be slaughtered on this!
Nothing to be slaughtered about - if you buy a reissue, no matter how great it is it won't be one of the very instruments that started it all... that's all. The people who buy instruments like this aren't scratting about for change down the back of the settee.
 18. That 'burst is truly wretched.
 19. Depends on the context. When I'm playing in a great venue with musicians I really admire and respect to a horde of punters who've paid for the privilege, I sometimes think 'Yeah.. I must be doing this right'. ...then someone posts a clip on here of their latest solo bass composition, and suddenly I feel hopeless.
 20. Boschma are tremendous. Best-kept secret in rack cases...
 21.
Interestingly enough I had a prog evening last night, watching the 'Beyond the Lighted Stage' doc. Geddy Lee appears to be playing a Nash early on in a dressing room scene. The top of the headstock has the nash sharpie date on it and no decal.
Is it not a Fender CS logo on the back of the headstock?
 22. Replacement pickguard and nut, too?
 23.
Not particularly useful if it cuts out during a gig IMHO.
The volume I was playing at when it cut out was far in excess of what a box that size could reasonably handle.
 24.
I've just returned my HB combo to Thomann & am now waiting for a refund - less the cost of returning it. At first it seemed to be the answer to my prayers - small, light, loud - plus the fact that an extension speaker could be added for gigging & the head could be removed to use as a stand alone head to drive two bigger cabs seemed like eutopia - where ever that is? However, I noticed that when the mains lead was attached - the socket assemply didn't seem too sturdy, which is the main reason for returning it as I thought that if using it to gig with - regular plugging & unplugging would only make the unsteadiness of it worse! To be honest - for the money it is outstanding & the EQ section is quite good - however I did have to have 'everything' switched on & apply the dreaded 'smiley' to the graphic to get a sound I really liked, as the flat sound was very, very 'middley' - probably in the main due to the limited space to move air?? If you are thinking of buying one - then please don't let this put you off, as at this price point - I'm sure nothing comes close to giving you as much bang for your bucks + if it's not to your liking - it only costs arond £15 to return it to Thomman!! ps - I had none of the cutting out problems with mine by the way, but then again, it's so loud I didn't need the volume up very high for it to be heard easily.
A couple of thoughts on the above from a Promethean POV. I thought the same about the mains lead. The plug does go in, and it works, albeit wobbly... and if it's knocked, it goes off. But then I realised it's just a good, old-fashioned tight fit. You need to give the plug a good old push, which clicks it in another 5mm or so. if you do that, it locks rock-solid. The boxiness - if I'm plunking around on the house, a little dip on the 800Hz slider smooths it out. But, if I'm playing with other people, I flatten it again because there's quite a bit of clarity there when there's a lot going on. Again, this is my own experience with the Promethean. I don't know whether any of this is relevant to your situation.
