1.
This was at the reunion of my old band, the drummer gets a solo and the singer decides to do some weird bloody dance for the first minute or so. Despite it being a full reunion only the guitarist and the singer are original members of the five in the band. It has to be said after seeing this I'm glad I didn't get the call! 2. 2007. My band of the time has a gig on the Isle of Arran. The band are split between the band van (containing PA, instruments, gear, manager, band members, hangers-on and roadie) and my car with a couple of other band members who need to be back to Newcastle the following day bit quicker for various reasons. The next day, we dash off ahead of the van, and stop at Happendon Services for coffee and cake. The phone rings - it's our drummer, who tells us that for some reason, the van driver decided to go home via the back roads (we predicted this - it's partly why we took the car). He can barely contain his amusement as he tells us what happened next.
Evening Chronicle, 2007 Singer Peter Donegan leapt for his life when his tour van careered out of control and plunged into a river. The son of the legendary king of skiffle Lonnie Donegan managed to throw himself out of the front passenger door of the van just before it crashed through a picnic table and hurtled into the river. Unmarked after cheating serious injury, he could be excused for pausing to thank his lucky stars. But Peter, 23, was more concerned about his dad's guitar and banjo which were in the back of the van. Peter was travelling back to the family home in Bedlington from a gig on the Isle of Arran in a group of five people which included his mum Sharon and former Lindisfarne drummer Ray Laidlaw on Sunday when they stopped at a picnic spot near Dumfries in Scotland. The van started rolling down the hill towards a river with Peter in it. He said: "I just jumped. It went through a picnic table but fortunately no-one was using it. It went down a little embankment and into the river nose-up which saved the equipment in the back. "The engine compartment was flooded and there was water in the front of the van. If I had stayed in it I would have gone through the windscreen. It all happened in an instant. I tried to grab the handbrake but it was too late and I just managed to jump out of the vehicle before it toppled into the river and sank. "My first thought was that I had my dad's guitar and banjo in the back of the van. They are 50 years old and priceless, Fortunately when they pulled out the van and opened up the back they were all intact."
3. It sounds a bit Purdie shuffle-ish...
4. Looks OK tO me based on lookin at the pics on a phone screen. S/n is in the correct place, decal looks correct.
5. FWIW, after about six months of regular gigging with my TC RH450, I pulled the head out of my Promethean and used it at a few gigs just to see how it compared. It sounded - IMO - far, far better. It was still warm, but had a natural unforced clarity the TC lacked. The TC wasn't long for this world after that. Assuming the Harley Benton and RedSub are much of a muchness with the Promethean, they're absolute bargains.
6. I do wonder. I bought my '71 P in Indianapolis, and my fretless '71 came from Italy. I don't know anything about their histories. However, by '71 J was bought new from Barratt's in Manchester for £247. It was then played by the original owner (I have a letter from him) up until a handful of years ago. It was owned by another chap for a short time, and then it ended up with me. It's completely stock apart from the pickups, which I swapped.
7. Cheers, all! Here's another - a cover, this time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu0oPdGc9wk

9. Hi folks One of my bands, Rosie & the Hips, did a radio session on Bishop FM last weekend. They've put some video clips up - here's one. It's my RBIV through a Promethean, into the camera's on-board mic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S59J0_Fj8o
10. A little bump for the weekend...
11. ...and if anyone should need further persuasion, here's a review from our very own Pantherairsoft.
12. I do it for my bands (and others).
13. Well, I always liked my Mesa Walkabout, so I've gone back down that route. Yep, thats right... three times the weight, and a third of the power. I'm such a clown when it comes to amps. :-) I should add the Streamliner comes with the original box, with instructions.
14. I fancy a change, as I do every year or so with amps. It's my weakness, so my STL 900 is up for sale. Excellent condition, less than a year old, bought from Bass Direct (i.e. not a grey import). Comes with a super-cool Gigskinz bag, which fits perfectly, offers great protection and has loads of storage space. £580 posted, or £570 collected from around Newcastle way.

16.
Do I really need to remind you why you bought this Jazz in the first place? Si
Ha ha... it's never far from my mind.
17.
My EA Micro has a fan, not very noisy but you can hear it on a very quiet gig. Not a problem, but what puzzles me is why its there at all. I've pushed the amp on a few occasions and it never gets even the slightest bit warm..yet alone hot?
Sounds like the fan is doing a good job ;-)
18. Streamliner is really quiet - that said, fan noise generally doesn't bother me.
19. Hi all This has had a stay of execution... for the moment. Thanks for your interest.
20.
This "unplugged" nonsense really gets my goat. If it was a truly acoustic session you'd be recording it with a single stereo pair of microphones and achieving the balance of instruments and vocals by positioning the players relative to the microphones. In practice what it means is "sensitive" (read weedier) versions of the songs played on stringed instruments with hollow rather than solid bodies and everything else is pretty much the same as if you were doing a normal gig. "Acoustic" bass guitars (with a couple of exceptions) aren't loud enough to hold their own unamplified against an acoustic guitar, so you'll need one with a pickup on it anyway. Unless you spend a lot of money it'll sound worse than an average solid bass guitar. To stay true to the "acoustic vibe" you really ought to be using an upright bass, but for a radio show this generally defeats the object as the main reason they want you to play "acoustically" is so you don't bring lots of bulky gear to the studio. Besides no one can see what you are playing on the radio. Bring a solid bass (string with flats if you really must) and a decent DI box to be on the safe side.

Yea. Load of rubbish. An electric bass is fine. Do they need a bass player for the gig? if so, what choice do they have.
^^^ both of these. Electric basses have been used with acoustic music since time immemorial. Using acoustic basses was OK on MTV unplugged in 1993, but unless you're going the DB route, just use your regular electric (with flats, IMO).
21. I had a Geddy and didn't get on with it. It weighed a ton and the neck was akin to a pencil.
22. IME that mid spot on the Promethean is calmed by pulling the 800Hz slider down a bit. Mind you, that only applies to solo practice. If I do anything with a band, the slider goes back to 0db...
