1. That's what a P should sound like. Lovely.
2. Yay Howard! He rocks.
3.
Test for echo was a wicked album!!! Virtuality and limbo are two of my favourite rush songs!!! Such a shame they didnt include them on the live album from that tour. People who dont have bootlegs will never hear how good they sounded live...
Fill yer boot(legs).... Virtuality is a terrible song, IMO...
4.
is '71 your YOB by any chance, or just coincidence you have those 3?? Just asking because it's also mine.
It's coincidence.. I'm a '72 vintage. Technically though, I suppose I began to exist in '71...
5. I'm in! L-R: 1971 Precision, 1971 fretless Precision, Roscoe Beck IV, 1971 Jazz. By the way, I'm happy to note the use of the word 'settee' on this thread, rather than 'couch' or 'sofa'. I approve.
6. Lots of Streamliner love here. Remember, one of the keys to this amp is never to be afraid to roll the lows off...
7. The Ventures bass was a MIJ special edition... A different kettle'o'fish to this one. :-)
8. One of Fender's finest moments, I reckon. CS quality, unbelievably versatile, and looks cool.
9. There's a line / mic level selector on the back.
10.
Cannot agree. A mate of mine, a very experienced bass player purchased an. R.H 450 rig last year and continues to comment on the lack of volume.
Despite not getting on with the RH450 dynamically, I never had a problem with a lack of volume. If anyone has problems with volume, I'd ask them to make sure they've done a factory reset and ensure the patch volume is maxx'd. It might not be the case for your mate, but I'm sure there will have been instances where people will have tried it in the shop etc. and written it off because the patch volume was set really quiet..
11. For me, the ratings issue that subsequently came to light kind-of explained what I didn't like about the head. It all made sense. But, some people really like it, and that's fine.
12.
Most of the the complaining on TB came from the hobbyists who were more interested in stats than the actual performance of the amp in a live situation if I recall correctly.
I'll try not to be offended. FWIW, I thought there was something 'odd' about my RH450 and sold it way before any of this came to light.
13. I think the serial number has just been Photoshopped out. We'll know for sure when the seller replies to the OP.
14. There are some very nice basses from that era. Fender had scaled back, and weren't throwing them out the door in silly numbers like they did in the late 70s. I always liked the siennabursts... they're very bonny.
15.
+1...low mid kick is what I'd say the RH amps have in spades...
I guess that illustrates the differences in taste we all have. I found it almost completely lacking in low-mid kick, and that's after wrestling with it for 100-or so-gigs over a year.
16.
I always thought that mine sounded 'loud enough' but to my ears 'something' wasn't quite right. Maybe this explains it?
My experience exactly...
17. Yeah.. it's quite well documented now everywhere apart from TC's marketing. The compression bothers some people.. me, for example. Others are quite happy with the way the amp sounds.
18. The Walkabout is a great head. It has a few oddities (no mute, DI is post master-volume, no Speakons), but if you want tubiness in a small head, that's the way to go (or a Streamlimer IMO). However.. the 15" Scout Cab (caveat - I've only played the 12"): The 12" combo is great for the old-school vibe (nothing Wootenesque), but it's a bugger to carry around. I imagine the 15" is a ) even harder to carry around and b ) is overly flubby, even less capable of nailing anything Wootenesque. All IMO, of course.
19.
How on earth can someone talk about the use of different screws on basses that were the epitome of mass produced? How many basses would one person have to see between 1960 and 1963 to form an authorative opinion on the consistency of countersinking? I suggest you couldn't do that with Peaveys made in the last 20 years.
There are some people who can do that with some accuracy.
20. Ah... gutted to hear that, Clarky. I'm sure you've done it for the right reasons. Onwards and upwards!
21. ...and whatever your opinion of PW sonically, it's an album full of proper songs and great bass parts, which is something they don't seem to bother with too much these days.
22. IMO, the best track on Hold Your Fire, and one of my favourite bass parts ever... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1qgn7KSPgo
23. I really like it. It's 'of the time', but it stands up well.
24.
Nice... although I was kindof hoping it would be the Steinberger headless. I have a live video from I think the Grace Under Pressure tour where he is using that, and the tone is also marvellous. Also getting into Signals, so what bass is on that? :-) Jennifer
Yeah - because to Wal wasn't his, I suppose he had to wait a while for his to built... the Steiny was used on most of that tour. Signals... there's a bit of a debate as to what is Steiny, what is Rick, and what is Jazz on that album. It's one of my favourites.
25. Peter Collins' Wal with light gauge strings, DI'd. SPRAAAANG!
