1.
It doesnt have that heft of the Streamliner 900, but I always dial the lows back on that anyway. The Streamliner does indeed kick like a mule, agreed.
But I'm not talking about EQ - i'm talking about the punch of the note. The transient.
2.
WOT - Wasnt referring to the transients/compression of the amp. The 450 is extremely loud, and ive really put it through its paces. I havent gigged the 750 much, but the 450 happily had enough volume (in fact appeared louder than a Markbass LM3 and Shuttle 6.0) in gig settings. Transients yes, if you want really fat lows, this amp isnt for you (althought the Staccato WILL), but the compression thing is emulating a tube amp being pushed a little, which is exactly why the older Ampeg crowd seem to like it. if you want a similar tone to a SVT w/sealed 810, eg low mid kicker, the Rh450 is it, albeit in my eyes with more to it and modern tone abilities.
'Loud' is too general a term - the point I'm making is that there's more to it than that. I'm all about low mids. While I could hear the RH450, it didn't poke or kick. It started to feel lost. It's a similar thing the Loudness war in audio mastering, IMO.
3.
Ignore all the comments on actual/perceived wattage. Both amps will be loud enough for most players on here.
Ignore this ^^^ The RH450 is loud, but the way it deals with transients is worth investigating.
4.
using forums to replace the retailer only gets opinions of the gear that they have tried.
You say this as if it's a bad thing... I've said this for years, but trying gear in a shop is useful, but it doesn't accurately represent how it will perform outside the shop. For example, had I heard my RH450 in a shop before I bought it, would have thought it was perfect for my needs. It was only after a few gigs I realised it wasn't for me at all. Don't discount the experiences of people who've extensively used gear. Yes, they're opinions, but so are those of the guy that runs the shop.
5.
I'd have thought that the Genz Benz STL9 would also be a good candidate. There's one in the FS section.
I have no experience of the Aguilar, but the Streamliner would get my vote over the TC. The TC colours the tone a *lot*.
6. A good way to check would be to run an mp3 player into the aux input and crank it...
7. Hello! I wanna tell you a story. A few weeks ago, I was gigging my Promethean, and the sound turned to mush part-way through a song. At the end of the tune, I checked it, unplugged everything, tried again, and it was fine. I didn't give it another thought until JPJ (BC'er, not erstwhile Led Zeppelin recorder player) came around for coffee one morning. He was interested in the Prom, so I gleefully demo'd it for him... and it sounded cack. Washed out and floppy, to be precise. I was horrified. Turns out something was loose in the assembly behind the input jack. I could ease it gently by wiggling the plug, and depending on how it was jiggled, it would either sound washed out and floppy, or the SHAZAM! punchy Promethean tone we've grown to love. I took the head apart and had a mooch around, but I'm cack-handed so in the end I took it to a repair chap who fixed it and gave it a going-over for 30 quid. Thinking back, I remember the moment I'll have done it - I was reaching over the combo one day to pick something up, and I accidentally caught the plug, giving it a shove. It had been slightly wobble ever since. Err... that's it. Hope it helps.
8. FWIW, it's rare for them to have issues IME.
9. Yip.. The last day and a half, or so. It's been resolved in the last couple of hours.
10. Ooh... Just spotted the lag has pretty much gone on the iPhone for me too. Happy days!
11. There's problems on VM at the mo where some users are unable to access a lot of sites... BC included. They're looking into it, apparently...
12. Are you a Virgin broadband user by any chance?
13. Hmmm... I still think the number is too high for a '71. I'd need to see a neck stamp...
14. HTH did i miss that? I'll blame it on new baby-induced sleep depravation.
15. I think calling it a '70 is on the optimistic side. My '71's serial number is a couple of thousand lower. Very nice if it is what it is, though - the rosewood they were using around that time is beautiful.
16. I used to own one of these - it was great...
17.
We need to make him stop it. I still have dreams about Wot's Streamliner sat on my cab.
Sorry. But it does sound very nice. Just sayin'.
18. The Chain is flippin' awesome from start to finish. If you'll excuse the pun.
19. Lovely head - I miss mine more than the M-Pulse 600 I also had at the time. My God, I was so extravagant back then. Happy days. Anyway, the closest alternative I've found to it is the Genz Streamliner. it has a similar round, punchy boot-ay.
20. Excellent.. I really hope this is a hit for them.
21. IMO - run away.... Use Roqsolid or someone else instead. 22. Transients add to my enjoyment and make me play better... that's part of the reason I couldn't get on with the RH450.
23.
How so?
I'm intrigued too... the box sizes are comparable...?
24. Gorgeous! I *love* the preamp in these...
25. Johnnysonic60 is a regular on the Fender Forum... nice chap.
