  1. Always makes me smile when people tar 70s Fenders with one big crappy brush, as if something deeply disturbing happened at the Fender plant on the stroke of midnight on Dec 31, 1969. Still, I guess it helps keep the prices down a little 😄
  2. Hey hey As per Leszek’s recommendation, I bought Electro Harmonix 12AX7’s from Watford Valves. Even though only one had failed, he told me swap them all out at the same time.
  3. The (mis)alignment of the stars is another reason to make me want to smash it to pieces.
  4. It can be hard trying vintage stuff out before you buy it. If you don't want to limit yourself, bear in mind if you buy wisely, and you do need to move it on, you won't take as much of a hit as if you bought new (same with any used stuff).
  5. Currently spotted selling on FB marketplace. I responded to ask him about one of his earlier transactions, and he immediately blocked me. Caveat emptor.
  6. The thought of putting it back together blows my mind. Glad it's not my job 😄
  7. You'll see them if you watch the video.
  8. Areet Genesis' old SSL desk is for sale, and it's a bit of a beast. Here's a video of it which I found fascinating, even though great swathes of it might as well be in Urdu as far as I'm concerned.
  9. ‘Michaelses’.
  10. I like to do that every now and then. It keeps me sane.
  11. My point exactly.
  12. ...as can buying brand new.
  13. Well, he suggested this thread was racist. Which, if it was, would outrage and offend me.
  14. What is the shortcoming you’re highlighting in this particular instance?
  15. I bloody love Limelightses. Nice one.
  16. It would be remiss of me not to post this.
  17. Every bass is the result of an infinitely variable combination of wood and wire, so the fact it's expensive and / or vintage doesn't really bring any guarantees as to the suitability for you, other than look and feel. What I do know is that if you buy a new one, and choose to sell it, you're going to lose a chunk of cash. If you buy an early 70s bass for a sensible price, that's less likely to be an issue.
  18. Umm... you know that swear word isn't actually French, right?
  19. Someone thought the title could be viewed as racist. Hence my post.
  20. It's an odd one, this. Purely with reference to the title of this thread, I often hear our American cousins take the mick* out of the British for having shonky teeth. Should we be outraged at that, and create tension and angst that wasn't there before, or just smile knowingly and move on, or get right back at them with a light-hearted reference to their mad** gun laws? My point is, it's nuanced, and I'm worried that we're judging all instances with the same criteria. *Apologies to all Micks who may be offended by this lazy reference.*** **Apologies to all genuinely mad people who may be offended by this lazy reference. ***Just remembered - I'm a mick. I'm outraged at myself.
  21. FWIW, the 15s are fine for BVs.
  22. Another point re: the ACS plugs - since I started using them I've become incredibly unfussy about monitor mixes. All those reflections and nasty frequencies just seem to disappear, and vocally it's so easy to hear yourself.
  23. Hmm... I was looking at this, but then it looks like the content might be a bit mixed up with someone else's... https://www.daddario.com/artists/guitar/Robert_DeLeo/
  24. Starter for ten: Pino - NiN, John Mayer Early Geezer John Paul Jones back in't early days Robert De Leo - STP Your man from Greta Van Fleet
