2. They do, but it's a C'S and costs about five-and-a-half million billion pounds.
  3.
I think if done right it blocks can look good on any neck :-)
I agree...
  4.
Nothing like my late 70's P the sunburst on my is more of the yellow kin this looks more like a vintage sunburst, or tobbaco sunburst. no blocks in mine either, can't ever remember seeing that on P-BASS. I could be completely wong though DEc
There never were block on a P. This is Fender mixing it up a bit, in their own way. FWIW, the red is the first colour to fade, so there's a chance your 'burst looked like this when it was new.
  5. On the off-chance, you're welcome to give the Promethean a shot too, just in case that rings your bell...
  6.
Really? I am starting to believe they're very close to this, if they haven't started using the random ball instrument generator already. "That one looks kind of 70's, Chip" "Let's call it the 70's Precision, Chad" "But Fender never made that in the 70's, Chip" "It doesn't matter, Chad, just get Brad in marketing on the phone"
I'm not sure the name is that important...?
  7.

Y'see, that's a great part. It fits the song perfectly. That's taste. The thread knocking about the other day that went wrong, of someone slapping over testcard music / porn soundtrack, wasn't tasteful, IMO. It was too busy and left no holes. Incidentally, despite what some people think, I don't hate slap. One of the albums that made me listen to bass in my formative years featured Marcus Miller.
  8.
It's like they have different features and they just draw numbers out of a velvet bag. "What's 23, Chad?" "23 is blocks but no binding, Chip" "OK, next up... number 41" "That's a Tele style headstock, Chip" "OK, intern, draw that up on Kisakae, let's see what it looks like"
No, I think this one is more calculated than that.
  9.
True but wouldn't they look so much better with a rosewood-n-blocks board than maple?
Yes. Yes, they would.... And one day I shall have a PJ in this configuration....
  10. To be fair, I imagine there's a bit of demand for a P with blocks. Should Fender ignore it?
  11.
Blocks on a P? in the seventies? I don't think so.
Ha ha.. poor Fender. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
  12. This has been around for a few days now, but I don't think we've done it yet.. apologies if I've missed it. More info here.

Awesome.. how did that come about? Given that Jerry Scheff lives down the road from you, it's even cooler that you got the phone call and he didn't.
  14. ....so on behalf of some of the other members on this thread, sorry to the OP if you got the impression some of us have no sense of humour.
  15. I have no idea who the bloke is. I just thought it was an awesome thread.
  16. Fender-wise, the only 'factory' examples I can think of were a matching special order LPB and CAR pair, that had bound necks and matching headstocks that popped up a while ago. They looked real enough. Lovely.
  17.
Too busy for what though mate?
For my taste.
  18.
The player CLEARLY has taste, certainly in this video.
I disagree. Even if I put my slap-head on(!) I actually think he's a bit too busy.
  19. Ah, that's a shame. You gave it a bloody good go, though!

  21.
maybe he could post something playing the style of music you like... we would all be happy??
I was clumsily trying to make a point to Pete. Sometimes it's hard to get excited about technical ability if, musically, it ain't ringing your bell.
  22. I had an idea in my head what Greenslade sounded like, and it was nothing like this. Quite enjoyable, that.
