1. This thread is awesome and it hasn't even started yet.
 2. My turn now... anyone selling a fixed-neck 4-string Eminence? Unlikely I know...
 3.
I'll let everyone know how it goes and post the appropriate feedback.
If it doesn't work out and you want to move it on, drop me a PM.
 4. Oh, FFS... I've been looking for one of these for ages!
 5. Awesome! Nothing snake oil about it - on a bad stage, it REALLY helps.
 6.
Hey guys, I'd more or less decided that my next amp head would be an Ampeg SVT3-pro, i've played through one before and thought it ticked all the boxes. However, when i mentioned this to a bass playing friend of mine his response was "Do yourself a favour and keep your eyes out for a second hand Warwick tubepath 5,1, i've owned both and given the choice now i'd take the Warwick every time, it does everything the SVT3 does and more". So, have any of you guys owned/used one, and is he right, are they that good? The sticking point could be that used Tubepath's are like rocking horse s**t! Not that i'm in any drastic hurry, i'd need to shift some gear on first anyway. So, opinions please ladies and gentleman!
I had a 10.1. Very nice amp... very loud, nice EQ. It has a 'proper' tube pre like the Mesa stuff (and, I believe, the Genz Streamliner). Things to be aware of - It's heavier than Jupiter, and IME it's quite dark sounding in character. You could probably EQ that out, though. (Incidentally, a year or two on, my search has ended at the Streamliner. It eclipses every amp I've had, which also includes a SVT-3pro).
 7. Lovely.. done already, though!
 8.
Does anyone have a copy of 'The Fender Bass an illustrated history'? I have one somehwere and am 99% sure that in there is a 'prodcution' Precision with sunburst body and blocked maple neck. Not saying they made it for long but I think they did make it, whether it was made in the 70's is another thing, i will dig the book out tonight.
There's a black one with a white guard, and blocks. P w/blocks was never a production model... unfortunately.
 9.
Bob Carolgees' fretless playing is awesome - a unique left hand technique.
+1. What a tone... it really barks.
 10. This thread is useless without background music.
 11.
Berlin's a good player but he doesn't half talk some absolute cockwash sometimes. He [s]sounds[/s] looks like he hasn't [s]listened to[/s] worn anything contemporary for about thirty years.
Fixed it for you...
 12. Jeff Berlin... is that the fella that's got Spit the Dog?
 13.
Nee chance o that kidda.
A diddent think see!
 14.
"Owt" is a word in British English? I have never heard of it.
Am guessing yiv nivvor been roond owa neck of the woods, marra...?
 15.
Some money instead of none?
Ah, sorry - I thought you meant 'as opposed to a meagre guarantee'. Point taken. Truth is, until an originals band is established, they're going to have to put up with stuff like this.
 16.
In my book a good covers band deserves every penny they get and more, why shouldn't they get a portion of the take they provide the bar with the punters they bring, it's just a shame that's not the same with the originals world, is all I was saying.
I doubt most originals bands would want it to be the same...
 17.
'oo are you??
I was wondering the same thing... Is he Basschat's previously unknown arch-lord?
 18.
Yes it does, what I meant, and you will notice as well, that the neo cab definately has better dynamic response, it's punchier and more defined in the mid to low range, the 2 together work perfectly, but if you try the head with either speakers you will realize what I mean.
Not sure that's specifically a Neo thing - IIRC the extension cab is a significantly bigger box.
 19.
This all seems reasonable and understandable. Never been a massive fan of most music most covers bands play if I'm honest (or at least the ones I've seen). Nothing bad about it, just too far before my time for me ever to have been a fan, and consequently only having a vague knowledge of the songs means I'm rarely interested. Perhaps cover bands in 20 years time will be playing Foo Fighters and Muse. That'll be good :-) (not massive fans of either but it's music I know).
Heh... quite a few of the covers bands around here play more recent stuff I'm not familiar with.
 20.
do these people exist in their droves and just in different circles to my own?
Yep.
IME people go to a venue to see a specific band they know is playing.
'Round our way, lots of people just go to their local. Some people travel to see bands, but I'd say more fall into the former category. And then... some pubs have a reputation for only having good stuff on (by and large). They tend to get bigger crowds.
 21. One of the biggest pub gigs around this neck of the woods tried this a few years ago. Unfortunately it didn't work out as most of the bands were suspicious of it. The ones that tried it did OK... some actually did very well out of it.
 22.
I think the word you may be looking for is "aught." I don't know how much it is used in the UK, but it is no longer used very much in the U.S.
'Owt'.
 23. Also - try dropping the pickups a bit. As you go up the neck, the strings might be getting a little close which will kill the definition.
 24. ^^^ +1 to Jovial Jack's comment. IME it's an essential bit'o'gear.
 25. I use Iron / Chrome.... it's been OK fer me.
