I've got the best amp in the world! (but I never get to play it)
I may be lucky in that I play most of my small gigs in London, maybe PAs are rare in the regions
Yiiip... That's about right. It also sounds like your gigs are fairly consistent. That's not the case for many. One night I could be playing folk in an arts centre with no PA... The next I could be playing the back room of a pub with a blues band and no PA.. The next, I could be playing Earl's Court with a PA. Variety is the spice of life... Best to be prepared, though. -
I agree that they are not in every pub gig, but they seem to be an option with all of the luthiers now, more so than in the past, suggesting that more and more people are asking for them. Reading Bass mags, there seems to be an increase in players using them, such as Damian Erskine, Dave Swift, Matt Garrison etc. edit: obviously the attachment is a crap mockup done by me on a saturday night - God, I miss gigging!

It's only the amps he uses, no cabs.
He has a couple of 4x10s mic'd up offstage, I think. -
I hate the idea of getting a boring lightweight black box type amp
Yeah.. me too. But I've got this, so IMO it's not an issue...
...Personally, I'd go the Sansamp way if I could.
I hate SansAmps. -

I've got a 900w amp that weighs next to nowt and has a lovely DI. I have two nice cabs that are an easy lift, but I usually only use one. And I quite often get mic'd up. More importantly, the amp has a volume knob that goes down as well as up. I'm a while away from going down the Pod + in-ears route. -
A shout out for Roqsolid amp covers... PICS

Cool! I'm just heading off to a gig now. Normally I'd take an amp and a cab for this one, but the new cover is so cool the Promethean is coming with me... -
I've said it before, but.. When I played in a covers band, they demanded I detuned and played it in low D. 'OK' says I. I never bothered. I always played it at the octave and no-one ever noticed.

100%. The factory Ibanez bag is well made, apart from the steel loops, but practically speaking it's hopeless and unusable. It actually makes it harder to carry..! -
Perfect! More here....

I know I'm preaching to the largely converted here, but.... The fitted cover supplied with my Ibanez Promethean combo is hopeless, so I've been looking for a replacement. After hearing a few Roqsolid reccomendations, I thought I'd give them a go. It wasn't an option on their site, so I measured it up (VERY carefully!), and emailed the details to them on Wednesday. I specified black piping and a cable pocket, totalling just short of 40 quid posted. It arrived yesterday - barely a full working day later! Unbelievable. Did I measure it right...? Yep. Spot-on. It's a perfect, perfect fit. It drops right over the top, it's nice and snug, and it nips in at the bottom to keep it secure. There's a hole (perfectly measured, even though I say so myself!) for the handle to pop through. A couple of things to bear in mind: The pocket is big enough for either a jack cable or a kettle lead. That's fine for me, but if you're hoping to fit more in, you might want to ask if they could make it bigger. Also - the material is very tough and high-quality, but be aware that it's not 'padded' in the spongy, traditional sense. Again, I wasn't expecting it to be, nor do I need it to be. This is a very, very high-quality,well made cover that will keep my combo scratch-free and nice and dry in the rain. And for £40, it's a bargain. Very highly recommended. Dear Ibanez - THIS is how you make covers. (Incidentally, the Promethean has been added as a catalogue item to their website now, so if you want one, you don't have to re-measure it.)
If anybody's interested there's a comp in today's paper on page 63 to win a rather tasty Nash PB-57 Precision valued at £1500. Thought it would be a bit selfish to enter and not tell everybody.
In the Sun?? What's going on with that paper? First a Rush article, then they give away a Nash P-bass. Bizarre...

Dunno if anyone has played one yet, but it's been discussed a few times... opinion is mixed amongst BC'ers.
Did you get the measurements right then?... Eude
I'm not sure.. Mrs. WoT has just rang to tell me it's landed, but I won't be home until later tonight. Fingers crossed!

Flipping heck... The cover has arrived! I only sent them the measurements on Wednesday.. Off to a gig, so more tomorrow.
FAKE
Nope - it's the correct profile for a cap made in P&G's factory in Auburn, Maine. The number of external ridges suggests dates it somewhere between 2007 & mid-2010. It's an easy mistake to make - the Auburn plant only made caps occasionally, to make up any shortfall from the Asian factories. It's still a little overpriced, IMO.

Isle Of Wight Coverage On TV - Great Stuff!
wateroftyne replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
I watched a bit of the coverage. I'm completely out-of-touch when it comes to what's in the hit parade at the moment, but when The Semi-Precious Weapons opened one of their songs with the line 'I can't pay my rent, but I'm f*****g gorgeous!', I just thought... that's proper rock and roll. -
