1. FWIW - I mailed Thomann to ask if they had it in stock, prior to ordering. They didn't, but told me when it was due in. They were spot-on, and it was with me a couple of days later.
Had a reply and they say they dont have stock....have a look on their Ebay site though and they say they do.... For those that have mentioned Thomann......I have used Thomann before...not a pleasant experience. I bought a (nearly £900) dac off them, advertised in stock, but that wasnt the case, after the wait, when it eventually arrived it was obviously a used or returned item, the packaging was an obvious clue and one of the inputs (toslink) was busted. The return process was painless enough but that was the only part of the transaction they got right. I swore there and then I wouldnt use them again. Dont get me wrong here...I aint trying to have a dig or anything, I'm just left totally confused about the way people conduct their business.......I'm prepared to pay the price for a NEW item that hasnt seen the light of day since it left the manufacturers. I think I'll pass until I can lay my sticky mitts on something suitable. Many thanks for all replies and for the advice...its given me plenty to think about.
2. In that case, stick with the line on the original (like the YT clip), and lay it down like you mean it.
 3.
Yeah, that's kinda the issue, though - it just doesn't sound good at all. Am I just going to have to roll all the tone off, play near the neck and glare at the drummer the whole time?
This stuff is all about the feel. Each note has to count.. Is the drummer sympathetic to the tune, or is he playing all over it?
 4. Whenever I play it. I just do something simple along these lines... That's all it needs...
 5.
I guess there must be lots of people with crap speakers attached to their televisions.
Not me... but, IMO, the bass sounded weak in the mix.
 6.
'tube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beXuw-x166o The bass was mixed way too low, IMHO. Does JPJ always leave the pickup covers on? Guess it's ok if you pluck right on the end of the fingerboard.
I've just watched it on the iPlayer thingy. Yep - the bass is there, but it's barely audible. And very scooped. But still - my God.. how mediocre is he? (SS, not JPJ)
 7.
I kind of admire SS's schtick and self-invention but does the music really compare... RL Burnside somewhere in a field in 1978
That's exactly what I'm talkin' about... Fair play to SS, though - he's done alright out of it...
 8. I never got the Seasick Steve adulation... Isn't he Country Blues for people who buy CDs from ASDA? *ducks behind rock*
 9.
I was trying to put my finger on it and it sounds like there is a lot of very low end and a fair bit of high end but not much in the middle?
Obviously those halls are a mare to mix, but my own feeling is that Alex's mushy tone has a lot to do with it these days. He used to have a lively, clear crunchy tone. Now it's dull and muddy. IMO.
 10. Apologies for reviving an old thread, but the video clips I've made in the past have used the crappy mic on my camera. I've now got a Zoom H2 which, and I thought I'd do another clip to try and give an idea of how hefty these combos sound... (If you can't stomach hackneyed 12-bar basslines, look away now)
 11.
Well, that's what I've been doing, really. Trouble is, after a few listens I think I've got it but after few more listens, I convice myself that it's something else. And so it goes on. Headaches, confusion, irritation...
...then it's time to stop listening for a bit! You'll be amazes how much the brain does behind the scenes when you're not listening. When you come back to it, it'll make more sense...
 12. Everyone's approach is different - mine would be just to listen to the song repeatedly, and let it sink in. A line will present itself eventually...
 13. The build quality of the Promethean is excellent. IMO, it looks quite cool, too.
 14.
I read silly threads on TB all the time.. ok i post some pointless music threads, but this takes the cake.. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/pick-my-f...olor-me-770967/ im not knocking TB but sometimes the threads take talking bass to its limits
It's just a daft self-mocking thread, zillions of which can also be found on BC.
 15. I hung on and bought a used H2 for re surround function. I can just plonk it in the middle...
 16. Ah, OK. Looking at the price of the MiniMark, I've got an idea of your budget. I can only recommend what I've used, and I'd 100% recommend a Promethean: http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_p5110_promethean.htm There's a few Promethean lovers here on BC.
 17. What are you going to be using the combo for? Gigs? Rehearsals? Do you have PA support?
 18. Just picked up an H2 and recorded a rehearsal and gig with it. It's brilliant. Very punchy, and it records front and back, so it's perfect for putting in the middle of the band.
 19. 'Sponsored by Jazz Cruises - Producer of 'The Smooth Jazz Cruise'' I'll pass too....
 20. A wedding at The Baltic Exchange on Newcastle Quayside. Just got home from the soundcheck - we're not on until 11, so I don't have to go back until 10:30pm. Should be fun. Here's a pic of the room.
 21.
I think it is safe to say that Rush have assumed control....at £70 a ticket!
My pals & I have managed to resist the temptation to buy a ticket. We're going to feel crap on Saturday night when they're at The Newcastle Arena, but... crap happens.
 22.
Nice bunch of people here, lol Ronz
Yeah, we are. You should try it sometime...
 23.
steady on whoever put this site together is obviously lacking correct information, but clearly must have a passion for the fret less bass
As has been mentioned previously, it's just a gateway page. Someone hoping to make money from referral ads on the page, or even to get an offer for the domain name.
 24. Excellent! What a tool. Let's hope he doesn't sell it to another unsuspecting soul...
 25.
Are there any nice pics/video reviews of this amp?
There's a couple of bits on YouTube, but there's not as much as there should be.
