In addition to all the great advice above... If you stick your ear on the top horn and play the E (unamplified), does it sound mushy? Is the E-string saddle stable enough on the bridge, or is it sliding about a little too easily? If you screw the pickups right down, as far as you can, does it improve things?

I don't watch these things very often (laziness, rather than 'There's nowt they can teach me!') but if I did, I'd probably watch this guy. Never seen him before, but he's very good.

Music aside, I'm sick of videos where it looks like the participants are getting off on appreciating each other's flatulence.

To complicate matters further... Even if it sounds OK at the rehearsal, it's all going to change on the night of the gig itself. Fish batter is a notorious acoustic sponge - it'll soak up all the reflections, which will have its pros and cons. You might lose the slapjack / timing issues mentioned earlier, at the expense of being to hear the other half of the band. Is it too late to suggest a change to pie & chips instead? That might mitigate the problem somewhat.

I'm weird - I love them chunky 70s necks. The 60s profile is too planky for my liking.

It was interesting to hear Mike talk so candidly, and quite brave of them to include it in the edit. I agree with all of this, but I would say Phil strikes me as the kind of person that wouldn’t do it unless he had to. I reckon he might need the cash.
