Rehearsing online during CV isolation - tips & advice
wateroftyne replied to stewblack's topic in General Discussion
Hi all - I've merged a few similar threads into this one, 'cos It's probably more useful to have all the advice in one place. -

The (non-stock) pickup in my '73 P always felt a little bland. I had a Limelight pickup knocking about, so I thought I'd drop it in. It's very nice.

Just spotted a load more 'past builds' have been added to the Limelight website... https://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/limelight-custom-gallery/

How to record a band video in lockdown

Here's one I put together last week from phone footage. The track already existed, of course. -
Just for fun, I put rounds on my LPB P yesterday (yes, that's how bored I am). It sounded nice...

Here's #3...

Very nice! If you can forgive me for a nit-pick, I think he hits the A more often than the C# on the verse 🙂

Cheers, Al. The song was recorded just before the restrictions came in. The drums were done at the drummer's house, the bass in my house (Handbox R-400 DI > cheap little Focusrite > Adobe Audition), and we sent the files to the guitarist. He just has a protools set up in a small room in his house, which is where we also did all the vocals, violin & accordion. I don't think he has any clever outboard stuff, just a few nice mics and a good ear. The video was necessitated by the restrictions - I put it together from mobile phone selfie vids, as you've probably guessed. In't technology marvellous?

01 Ever played a gig sitting down? Loads of times. 02 Ever gigged on a different instrument? Nope. I played a mandolin on one song once, but I was crap. 03 Ever shared a stage with a musical hero of yours? Yes, a couple of times. 04 Any fan ever had a tatoo of your band's logo? They're probably all a bit old for tattoos. 05 Ever signed an autograph in a dressing room? Yes. 06 Ever cried on stage? Yes. 07 Ever worn a hat on stage? Yes. Dunno why. 08 Ever gigged with a band you hadn't met before the gig? Yes. 09 Ever been in a relationship with a fellow band member? Yes. 10 Ever played in different bands on the same day? Yes - three. 11 Ever had anything thrown at you while playing? No. 12 Ever crashed on the way to the gig? Umm... the van rolled into a river on the way home from a gig. Does that count? 13 Ever left a band over the choice of set list? Yes. 14 Ever slept in the venue despite it not being a hotel? No. 15 Ever been supported by a band clearly better than you? God, loads of times. 16 Ever played a gig suffering from some debilitating medical condition? Yes. I vomited on a couple in the front row once. I'm not proud. 17 Ever been in a band where the guitarist was your favourite bandmate? Yes. 18 Ever played in the grounds of a stately home? Yes. 19 Ever injured yourself on stage? Kind-of. I fell off the stage at my first ever gig. 20 Ever been told that your bass isn't loud enough? Yes. I nearly cried with happiness.

The UK's at a standstill, too, as is most of the world. Stay safe.

Here's the lockdown-friendly video for the new single of a band wot I'm in. I pulled my ol' 71 fretless Precision out for this one.
-
I've noticed that too. It must be the way it's recorded...?

Was your post just a general public service announcement, or was it a specific response to the OP?
-
Grateful I saw him in Manchester recently for the first, and sadly last, time. Lake Marie, man. What songs.
-
To be fair, the OP dates from November.

Sorry to report that Denny Mochan, a well-known bass brother in Tyneside, and occasional BC contributor (DieselCowboy) passed away at the weekend. RIP, Denny.
