My Maruszczyk Jake is 7.2lbs, and none-the-worse for it. If only they could all be like that. -

...singing 'Putting on the Style' amongst others. Elvis also sang Lonnie's 'I'll Never Fall in Love Again'. There can't be many (any?) others who've had songs covered by Elvis AND The Beatles... 🙂
-
It's worth bearing in mind Lonnie's band never used a tea chest bass 🙂

Ah, well... I can possibly help a bit here (with the caveat that I don't play upright bass) :-) Lonnie's old songs are - often - incredible. It's a shame he's more well known for tat like Chewing Gum and Dustman. Listen to Black Girl, for example. It's not a million miles from Nirvana's version. It's basically about dynamics, breathless energy and that relentless pulse which comes from the bass. Chris Barber is the source for this, really. Check out Lonnie & Van Morrison's latter-day album 'The Skiffle Sessions'. it's incredible. Here's something I was part of for a number of years - just incredible fun, and the audiences love it.

I played a song with three accordions in it last night, and survived.

It's pretty common practice. Preamp valves don't glow, 'cos there's not enough power involved. Power amp valves do.

Jazz Bass bridges - What's the issue?

Like Jamerson, Jaco and John-Paul Jones? (And probably loads of other semi-pros that start with 'J'..) -
WeTransfer will do it.

How big are the files? WeTransfer does most of my heavy lifting. Up to 2GB is free.

That's gorgeous! 7.9lbs? Wow...!

Have a good'un. Part of it is weaning your ears off what you're used to hearing - the zing, etc. Once you're over that, you begin to appreciate them for what they are.
-
The OP is 'going back to flatwounds' which suggests he's used them previously and knows what to expect, only this time.. he's not getting it. I'm not sure your post helps a great deal.

Nah.

Has anyone used Eurosender to send a bass in a flightcase within the UK with insurance? Just wondering what a ballpark figure is...
-
^^ Also this. I always screw the pickups down fairly low - it seems to take a lot of the 'gonk' out of the attack.
-
Any chance of a recording? Are you playing fairly hard? Maybe try raising your action a bit.

Hey gang! I'm selling my 1972 Fender Precision. It in its original black custom colour, with a maple neck. The previous owner bought it new in 1972 in California, and in the early 80's did the usual 'upgrades' to the bridge, pickguard, pickups & wiring. I've since re-replaced them with repros from Limelight, to restore it back to its former glory. The rest is all-original. There's a small, virtually invisible repair to the finish on the top horn, performed by the legendary Dave Wilson, who also gave it a full set up. The neck is strong, the truss is good. It's a medium-light weight (3.8kg, 8lb 6oz), and resonant. It kind-of comes with the original case - the owner kept the Fender badge, interior, handle and latches, and adapted it into a more substantial flight case (NOTE: the actual case can be seen in photos further down the thread). Shout up if you need any more info, pics etc.
