  1. Hi I watched the Lemmy movie and enjoyed, also watched the Hawkwind doc, nearly pi$$ed myself when they told you how the name was concieved. Apparently Nik Turner was always clearing his throat (hawking) and doing long musical farts (the wind section). Regards Jim
  2. Hi again I think I should add that I did most of my early learning on a short scale, which is probably why I tend to favour it, but better to learn on a full size, certainly at least for versatility, and as mentioned earlier it can't do his strength any harm as well. Jim
  3. Hi all I have to disagree but not completely, I have small hands and a short scale is very comfortable to play, but I do notice the improvement if I practice for a while (a few weeks) on a full size then transfer to the short scale. I suppose most people here would say get used to one and stick to it, and it does mean having more than one bass (there are very cheap, usable basses to be found if you look), but it works for me and I always get a boost when returning to the short scale. Regards Jim
  4. Fingers for me as well, just can't seem to get the rhythm going as well with a pick. Regards Jim
  5. Well done mate, good to hear, (well read I suppose). Regards Jim
  6. Back door, yes certainly, going to see Colin Hodgekinson play with the British Blues Quintet tomorrow in Kinross. Yay. Regards Jim
  7. Hi I'm a premium user and stream into a DAC then hifi system, sounds very very good. Remember to enable high bitrate on premium, makes a big difference. Very happy with the service so far apart from the glitchyness when playing tracks from the hard drive through Spotify, I also prefer the sound quality of Spotify to Itunes. Regards Jim
  8. There is a Westone Thunder on ebay just now with what the seller describes as issues, one of these is the previous owner drilled a hole in the headstock to hang it on the wall. This has made my day, I'm still laughing as I type this. Regards Jim
  9. Hi I was listening to "I was made to love her", by Stevie Wonder on Spotify and was staggered how good the bass was. Would this be JJ playing, certainly sounds fantastic any way. Regards Jim
  10. Hi I too am interested in a tutor in the Tayside region, I saw on Gumtree there were lessons available from Dundee Guitar Training at a discount price for block bookings. I know nothing about DGT, but I noticed they do bass lessons as well. Regards Jim
  11. Hi Redstriper those rotosounds could be just the job, I have found that the Status strings are 32.75 inches, if I can be permitted to mix metric with imperial, and the price I quoted was wrong, they are £13.99 delivered, sorry if I caused any confusion. Regards Jim
  12. Hi Thanks for the replies lads, much appreciated, by the way, the last strings I bought were D'addario xl flatwound chromes, now these were regular light gauge long scale (these were the ones the guy tried to sell me for the bronco as well, that's all they have), anyway I restrung a Squier p-bass with them, and while I love the sound, they are at a lot more tension than the strings they replaced, I would also like to avoid that. Regards Jim
  13. Hi I would like to try a set of flats on my Bronco bass, the Status site offers hotwire strings for £17.99 delivered but which ones would I choose for length. The confusion has been caused by my local shop who only stock long length flats and said they would be O. K. on my bass which is shortscale. Regards Jim
  14. Hi from Dundee and welcome to Basschat. Regards Jim
  15. Hi I put a set of 45-100 chromes on my p-bass last week, terrific sound but the extra tension means I will have to get used to it or lower the action. Regards Jim
  16. Hi It's a picture of beer with a bass standing beside it for scale. Regards Jim
  17. Hi I have the option to buy a nearly new bass made by J Davey, a luthier in Staffordshire I believe. Has anyone got one, played one or have any other info please, I have been on his website but word of mouth experience would be great if possible. Regards Jim
  18. Hi Thanks for the prompt and informative replies guys, just the job. Regards Jim
  19. Hi Managed to blag this bass very cheap as it was in a sorry state and didn't work, managed to de-sticker it and clean it up quite nicely, now to the problem. The jack skt. has been turning and has severed all It's connections, I can see a green co-ax cable with a white insulated centre core which I take to be the pos and neg. There is also a black wire going through the body in the direction of the bridge which I have decided in my wisdom is the earth (please correct me if I'm wrong). On looking at the jack skt. there is only two tabs to solder on to and three connections (including the earth), can anyone clarify this for me please. Regards Jim
  20. Hi And another wish of good luck from me, hopefully you won't need it and sail through. Best Regards Jim

    Yay!

Hi Yay! indeed, hope It's a nice bass, good price. Regards Jim
  22. Hi Mad Jack from Grizzly Adams (if you're old enuff to remember it). Regards Jim
  23. Hi Just watched and enjoyed this as well, (can't stop thinking about oxtail soup now), also watched Talk Talk live in Montreux which was on before it and also involved some fine bass playing . Regards Jim
  24. Hi I was in my local CC (Dundee) and a Warwick rockbass had just come in, no price as yet, so I enquired, £199 the man said, but would take £180 for cash, not a bad price but one heavy mother of a bass so not for me. Regards Jim
  25. Hi I bought an AXL player deluxe fretless from a chap, who, when he picked it up from a music and instruments fair, had the frets missing and just the gaps left, (apparently they just omitted the frets to make a fretless). He had a luthier fit maple inserts into the gaps (rosewood board)and a lovely job he made of it, feels great. Regards Jim
