  1. Still up for sale. I have had a few enquiries but just to reiterate I don't have a hard case or packaging so collection only. Thanks for looking.
  2. I acquired a gig bag that absolutely reeked of smoke. I opened it up and left it in the garden for the day in the sunlight. Wrong time of the year unfortunately but it works and all the smell went completely.
  3. After a couple of near misses with smaller stands I bought a Fender deluxe hanging stand. Only 25 quid but has larger footprint than many and hence is very stable.
  4. Can I suggest a row of music stands as the first line of defence, if that is breached a prod in the eye from a headstock mounted tuner usually works.
  5. Hi Chienmortbb I've tended to go for coloured cables just to help identify stuff in dim light on stage hence my observation. And just to brighten things up a bit to be honest! Quite appreciate if you're making these things in bulk you can't keep a load of colours but maybe just one bright colour, red, yellow, green or whatever as an option in future ?
  6. Can I add that I find a coloured cable, well anything other than black, is useful just to identify it on the floor from all the other stuff.
  7. Hi flippyfloop Yes indeed, access through the soundhole. You can just about see it in the close up of the bridge above. This is one little bass that played absolutely fine when I first got it so I've never had to adjust it TBH. Martin
  8. Ibanez SRH 500 semi hollow bass in Dragon Eye burst flat finish. £285 This is the fretted model, (Ibanez now only make the fretless version). Standard 34 inch scale, 38mm nut, piezo bridge pickup with tone and volume and is very light around the 7lb mark. It's perfect for those woody upright tones. Currently strung with TI flats and comes with a nice Maruszczk standard gig bag. In very good shape just a few little marks on the body which I have photographed and there is a slightly worn patch where I've been resting my thumb on the end of the fingerboard. Truss rod and electrics all function as they should. I bought this at this bargain price from a very nice chap on here around 4 years ago and in the spirit of Basschat I'm passing it on at the same price. It's been ideal for playing jazz and latin. Only moving on as I'm mainly using my jazz bass again these days. Collection only please from Horsham, West Sussex where you can try out obviously. (I have no hard case or packing and cannot post). And no trades thanks as I'm trying to slim down my collection a bit.
  9. Ibanez PNB14E electro acoustic bass £100 Everyone needs a small acoustic bass for noodling on the sofa. This little chap fits the bill admirably. Same size as an acoustic guitar (24.8 inch scale) but with surprising volume and authority. Also sounds remarkably good plugged in, built in tuner and preamp, would be great in an acoustic setting. Lovely looking thing, super condition, spent all it's life indoors, no dings or scratches. Over £200 new so asking half price. Please come and take it away from Horsham, West Sussex, no box or packing or even gig bag I'm afraid. A sensible price for a cracking little acoustic bass. 10. Yes indeed. I quite like the Birch Green colour though, is that a new one or has it been seen before?
  11. Thanks, I think you're both probably right. I've never seen an SD like this hence my query. This is the second one I have seen for sale recently but on reflection maybe it was a different advert for the same one.
  12. There's one on ebay at the moment... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176427213694?itmmeta=01J0H7XEX1XAXRTR26556T1ZEN&hash=item2913e1a37e:g:rF0AAOSw-ZxmWalq
  13. Specifically those with allen key adjustable pole pieces. I see them crop up for sale from time to time at reasonable prices but can't find out anything about them. A long discontinued model I presume but what were they like and what model were they? Anyone got any ideas? just wondering whether they're worth a punt. Cheers Martin
  14. Thanks for posting John I enjoyed watching that. Nik Kershaw wrote some wonderfully catchy and quite unique songs but has slipped a bit off the radar in recent years.
  15. That's great Andy, much appreciate you reposting, I'm sure others may find this useful as well. Thanks a lot. Martin
  16. Thank you both for your replies. To clarify the bass in question is a 4 string Jazz in normal tuning. This is my regular player, I have a very light touch and I enjoy a nice low action. The bass plays very well as it is but I am aware of just a little fret noise at the 11th fret and mainly on the D string. Investigating with a fret rocker it would seem the12th fret is just a tad high in that area. So it is indeed just one high spot I am talking about. I am probably being picky, the bass plays almost perfectly, certainly not a case for a full fret dress and raising the D at the bridge a little would stop it. But as far as I can see just a tiny amount taken off the treble side of the 12th fret would cure it. I did read of a 'quick and dirty' solution on here myself sometime but I'm blowed if I can find it. It may well have been you Andy so really appreciative of any of your usual good advice. Thanks Martin
  17. How do I fix a high spot on a fret ? To clarify I don't mean the whole fret is high, I'm just getting a buzz on the D string. I 'm well used to doing set ups, neck relief etc but hesitate at touching frets. But this would appear to need just a tiny amount taking off the fret under the D string so I'm hoping just a touch or two with an appropriate file or whatever will do the trick. Any advice please on the best way to tackle this?
  18. In that case I've been playing the wrong venues for years. The Dog and Duck won't have a PA system neither will the average church/village hall, hotel function room, wedding marquee, village fête etc. I sympathise with the OP, we're all in this for a bit of fun and it's only natural we want to help out our bandmates.
  19. You're right, my mistake, wrong gnomenclature
  20. OK Greenguitarman, appreciate maybe you are not too familiar with bass combos amps etc, there is a bewildering selection of stuff available out there. Perhaps you could tell us a bit about your situation? How important is weight and portability vs. the volume you need. Just practicing or hoping to compete with a drummer in a band for example. Carrying stuff on public transport or using the car?
  21. I would suggest a Barefaced One10 cabinet and small amp head of your choice. A Trace Elliot Gnome for example will fit in your gig bag pocket. You can tackle anything from a quiet practice to a small gig with this. I use a One10 myself, astonishing loud and capable and smaller and lighter than most small combos. Checkout the second hand gear on here for both items.
  22. Yes I think the problem with basses that come already painted with graphite paint is that they just don't use enough. The Player Jazz I bought last year had the cavity painted complete with an earth lug wired to the output earth. It looked great in theory but the paint was so thin that probing with a meter showed it was only conductive in parts. There was also a gap at the top of the cavity, if it had been taken just over the top to make contact with the control plate the earth wire would have been unnecessary. Does it work as well as copper? I guess only a controlled side by side test would tell but I've proved to myself a decent coating really does give zero resistance wherever you probe it so I don't see why not.
  23. I've shielded a few basses with copper tape but always thought it was rather a crude way of doing things especially if you have to then have to stick insulating tape over the top. I've started using shielding paint, its so quick and easy to apply but only takes a few microns off the space in a crowded control cavity. You need two or three coats but it dries quickly. A meter will confirm it's conductivity and it does work. Just take it over the lip of the cavity to contact the control plate. 👍
  24. I just want to get back what I paid for it
  25. Bodies can vary quite a bit as well. The pickguard should fit snugly around the neck and the cutout for the pickup remember determines it's precise alignment under the strings. Having done that you may find the guard does not properly cover the control cavity or the screw holes have no wood under them. Move it a millimetre to adjust and it throws out the fit elsewhere. I've had this problem with bitsa basses with bodies of unknown origin.
