I've used one of those in the past and thought it was a cracking combo.

However they don't have much bottom at all - try and stick some reggae through them and they just get grindier/growlier as they overdrive. If you like that sound they're great but they're very much a one trick pony - great rock sound due to the growly midrange, shy lows and sweet but not shiny highs, plus quite a lot of natural compression.

    I've never played through a Trace 4x10" combo but the '91 4x10" cab I have has enough bottom for me.

The superlight cabs are light due mostly to the choice of wood. If you look at manufacturers standard cabs vs neo cabs, you'll see that the wood they use is different... and thats the big weight saver.
Cheers. I don't know a lot about amps and cabs, I suppose I should search the forum a bit more and read up.

    I've always prefered a solid colour body to a fancy wood but recently I've been looking at the GB thread and I've been warming to them. I think I would find choosing the specs for a custom build impossible. I'm better off buying something from stock. The only thing I would be 100% on is a neck shape like the '75 RI Jazz have.

  4. My old Trace 4X10 is heavy but it isn't THAT heavy. Certainly not the heaviest 4X10 I've lifted. I've heard that replacing the speakers with Eminence Deltas saves some weight because they have a smaller magnet. Don't hold me to that though, it could be bollocks.

    Now is a great time to be buying second hand Trace stuff as well because it isn't that expensive. It's finding the room to keep it all that's the problem.

  5. I use the sansamp BDDI for making my passives sound a little more active. I put fuzz and distortion pedals after the Sansamp because it helps to retain the bass. It's also amazing for making a crap amp sound pretty good.

    I buckled at the pressure and bought a Prunes & Custard anyway so I'm open to offers. Ideally after a sale but there's no harm in making trade offers.

    Great pic, on my monitor it doesn't look dark, doesn't look blurred and the bass looks very sexy. I like how the grain of the bass and floor seem to run into one another in places.

    I'm pretty sure I've seen old Bellamy with a Roland something or other on one or two of his guitars. Sounds like quite a versatile unit to have on bass from your description.

  8.
I don't use the Flanger
I use my flanger to help get a really nice synthy fuzz.

    I use: Animato -> WM -> Flanger -> Phase 90

    Give it a go, you may be able to work it into a song somewhere. Nice board, I just got a BSW in a trade and looking forward to using it at practice tonight.
