1. Great bass

I sold my 2 band stingray and regretted it so much. When I had the opportunity to buy it back a couple of months later I did. Such a fantastic tone.

Is that strung through the body? When did they stop doing that, anyone know?

  2.
Right, but why is anyone using a wah on bass without a blender?? Surely the whole idea of a wah is that you loose low end when your foot's all the way down?
Am I Naïve in thinking wah is just an eq sweep?

  3.
Best place I can recommend is DIYstompboxes dot com and General Guitar Gadgets, these sites are a wealth of info on effects pedals, techniques, supplies, theory and contain active forums where you can ask like minded geeks who are keen to help assimilate you into their world. :)
Check out Beavis Audio Research as well - great site with some interesting projects http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/
another really good site is freestompboxes.org
Thanks for the links guys.

  4.
How much are they new? I got mine for £100 used at a music shop in stoke

EDIT: I use mine blended though so there may be some low end loss
From what I've seen they're around the £200+ mark. If I can find one second hand a little bit cheaper then I will get it.

  5.
Has anyone else ever used a Zvex Wah Probe on bass? I do and it's amazing.
I've always wanted to try one on bass but it would be an expensive experiemnt. I may give it a go now it's had a recomendation.

    Really bloody expensive though.

  6.
Absolutely ludicrous. Where will it end? Relic'ed plectrums (sorry plectra) and guitar straps, relic'ed cables .....
I'm pretty sure I saw relic straps a few years ago in Andertons.

  7. From the topic header I actually thought you were posting from Everest for a minute there! How silly?

Congrats on the audition. I had a look at the myspace as well when the ad was posted last week and decided that the music wasn't quite my cup of tea. The cello player looks quite pretty though.

  8.
I'd have thought the lottery comment is more relevant to the chance of becoming a rockstar. I can't see why with talent and hard work you couldn't make a career as a pro musician.

    Alex
Yeah, I was thinking of a life of excess in a large band. Sorry if I offended anyone.

  9. Here's my advice:

    Stay in school
    Don't take drugs
    Get lots of practice in
    Play lots of gigs
    Eat lots of cheese
Realise that you have a better chance of winning the lottery then 'making it' as a pro musician.

Got to be worth £850 to someone in Staffordshire.

  11.
Just wondered if anyone can recommend any sure-fire Motown stuff?
Anything that charted.

Have a look back through this thread, there are quite a few Motown / Stax / Atlantic suggestions.

  12.
Do people really get on the floor for KOL?

I thought people would just get depressed and leave.
I was as surprised as you. Give it a shot, all their songs are ridiculously simple.

  13. Got to give MusicMan Credit for producing basses that are a little out of the ordinary and a bit radical. This and the Bongo are very different from anything else being produced at the moment. I would hate to see them start doing P-bass and J-bass style basses. It kind of reminds me of when Gibson brought out the Explorer and Flying-V in the late 50's.

  14. It's horses for courses.

With the covers band I play in I take my tuner, sans amp BDDI and sometimes a distortion/dirt box (but I can get away without it). For my originals band I have 6 or 7 pedals I use, we're a 3 peice so there's a lot more space to fill and effects can do that.

I think bass effects get a bit lost in most covers bands anyway. Especially if you're playing in a small pub and there's 5 or 6 people playing. I saw a mowtown / stax band last night called T-Slammers and there was about 8 people on stage... The style of music doesn't call for any effects on bass and there's not a lot of room for them to be included anyway. They're a bloody good band as well.

It's like Finbar said: It depends if you're doing originals or covers. You have a lot more space to shoehorn a particular effect in if you are writing the song yourself!
