I use an old Trace from 1990 I believe. The only other amps I've played through that I like are Mesa, Ampeg and Eden. Not saying the rest are pants, I just haven't played through them yet. Anyway, it would take a lot to part me with what I've got, I love the sound. Check on the BC marketplace or good old ebay if you're interested in going for the older Trace stuff, a bargain is out there to be had.

For some time my SansAmp Bass driver, Fulltone Bass Driver, Woolly Mammoth and Phase 90 have been firmly rooted to my pedal board and nothing I've tried has yet to replace them or be added. This could all change though as I've bought a few new pedals recently. However I can't see the SansAmp or Phase 90 going anywhere.

That is some great advice from AM. Everything I learnt in my first few years came from haveing a really great teacher and playing along to my favourite tracks and experimenting with them.
My question - other than price, what is the difference between relatively cheap ear plugs and the more expensive ones?
I think the main difference is the cheaper ones are aimed at protecting your ears more. Where as the more expensive (moulded) ones not only protect yours ears but don't cut anything out (I could be wrong). I think I've read that some people find the one-size-fits-all ear plugs a little uncomfortable during prolonged periods of use, I haven't found this an issue with my moulded ones after 5 or 6 hours of use.
But what do I do?? follow the guitar?? or the drums?? My friend mentioned something about ''locking in with the drummer'' what the hell does that mean???
The rhythm section (you and the drummer) is responsible for setting the ground work of any song, a firm foundation for the lead players to build from. They are the backbone of the band. They create the framework that all the rest is built upon. This handles the roots and rhythm of the song and helps get the groove on track and keep it there for the duration of the song. People cannot sing along with a song they have never heard, but they can dance to it. The rhythm section is generally what people key into first.
About a year. . . .
I believe there are a whole host of guys and girls who teach bass using the forum, so they're probably better at giving advise then I am. However, what I'd say is to practice. Play along to your favorite songs at home, throw in some changes while you're practising on your own and don't be scared to make mistakes, get creative or mix it up. I've always thought of bass at the link between the drums and guitar, you have to work with both. Guide the melody. There's tons of advise out there and you're in the right place for it.

How long have you been playing bass?

You may find this discussion helps regarding the more expensive ear protection: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42721&hl= I used ER20's for years and found them great, not sure how much they are now but they were around £15 a couple of years ago. I now use ER25's and they're also great. Alex. Here's the ear plug sticky Dood mentioned.

Do you own the cheapest bass on Basschat?
harvey1-8 replied to Bassassin's topic in General Discussion
I once swapped 4 cans of Fosters for a Precision copy. I don't have it any more though so doesn't really fit into this topic. Amusing story none the less. -
Fury by Muse is also a banger, one of my favs.

I Want You Back - Jackson 5. +1 for Sir Duke.

I was unsure myself when I was looking into buying my ER25's. I decided to go with the 25's because you can never be too careful with your ears. You only get one pair. But it does depend on your own situation.
-
My ER25's come with me for all live music, I would replace them without a second though if I lost them. They are the most important piece of kit I own and worth every penny.
yeah i checked out the Carbon Copy. Didn't know if it would work well with bass though
I like it! I use it quite sparsely with a phase 90 next in the line, at home I play around with it a lot more to get some nice swells out of it. Be careful with oscillating any delay as I've been told it can ruin your speakers on both guitar and bass amps.
-
I don't have a synth pedal but I do use an MXR Carbon Copy analog delay, it works very well with bass. I'd like to get a synth pedal myself so it will be interesting to see what else in mentioned.
