  1. Thanks Andy. You don’t mention if you use a jig to screw the inserts in. I see guys use a bolt and locknut so you don’t have to stress the hex in the brass. ive decided to give it a go. Obviously on some more scrap maple first! cheers for the info
  2. I don't know why there aren't more of them out there. I just bought a Euro 5LT. Its friggin awesome!
  3. I like the keep it simple approach! I am going to have a crack at a multi scale 5 string.
  4. Nice design. I do like a good semi
  5. You can get one from me! Remember if you fit to a passive bass you'll need to add a battery, and change the jack to a stereo one for turning on the power. PM me.
  6. I think it has been done in the past. And Mayones does it on their Mini bass, the Cali 4.
  7. I picked up a used GK MB500 head. It weighs under 4 pounds. I keep in my gig bag as a backup. One of these with a Bergantino HDN112 would be perfect. I know its not a combo, but easily transportable and modular is always good, IMO
  8. I did think about that. And I may still do. I had bad success in the past as the inserts I tried were too coarse a thread. I have some fine ones now. However I did try one in a scrap piece of maple, using the correct pilot drill size and it was getting too tight to screw all the way in.
  9. Thanks! It is hell waiting for a delivery of neck screws before I can assemble it! Its killing me!
  10. Here is a close up of the custom headphone amp. The regular jack on the side of the body will just turn on the preamp as normal, but if you just want to use headphones, plug them in to the mini jack and it turns on the preamp and the headphone amp. So you still hear any preamp EQ adjustments.
  11. Thanks! Yes they are veneers front and back on the headstock. On the cavity cover there is Aux in and headphone out. Rehearse anywhere! Plug your phone in and play. !
  12. I have been pretty happy with my Fender Elite 5 Jazz, but decided to create my own version to incorporate some custom touches. I am still deciding on electronics. Possible EMG or Nordy pickups. Specs are Aboyna burl over alder, with black veneer accent. Flame maple neck, burl headstock, 35:" scale, Ebony fingerboard, MOP dots. Compound radius. Assymetric neck rear profile. Bridge and tuners are Hipshot, 17.5mm spacing.
  13. Perfect! This is my favourite Warwick shape. For years I wanted a Streamer Stage II. Never did get one!
  14. Doesn't have enough strings! Other than that it looks fab!!
  15. Hey Ped how do you get the 8-pin pickup connector to the control cavity? It would need to be a big hole to thread that through!
  16. I guess they realized the issue with active guitars and created the BG3
  17. Thanks Hub. I just discovered that the GT version has a connector for use when the guitar uses a battery. Problem solved, provided the BG version has the same. I see the latest Bass version is called BG3. But, the instructions are still for BG.
  18. That's interesting. I am looking at the instructions and can't see how a preamp would get its power from the Roland kit! Obviously it can be done!! Anyway, I have registered with the Vguitar forum. Looks pretty good on there, so I am sure I will get the answers. I am looking forward to SY-1000 reviews in March. I believe it is a different approach to the GR-55. Three engines etc.
  19. Great - I will search that forum out.
  20. How did you turn on you active preamp?
  21. Hi Ped, Its going in a custom build. I am going to mess around with a GR-55 and SY-1000. Do you know what voltage it runs at? EMG pickups and preamp can run 9v-27v. I would prefer to run at 18v. It would be crappy to have to plug a jack plug in just to power up the magnetic side of things! But might be the only way. Its a shame you can't just ask Roland a technical question. You have to go through the Tribe community, and doesn't look like people respond to a lot of threads. Here is the installation PDF. Thank you GK-KIT-BG_OM.pdf
  22. Has anyone installed the Roland pickup in an active bass? The instructions don't answer some of my questions. Where does the Roland board get its power from? Via the 13-pin cable and floor synth? Will it work with active pickups on 18v? The power for the active preamp/pickups are turned on by the regular jack, so how would power be turned on when using the 13-pin out? The kit has a 3 way switch synth/mix/magnetic, so I am guessing you no longer need the jack. But I will need to get power to the EMGs!! Thanks!
  23. I have an Elite 5 Jazz and its great. The only thing I don't like about the new Ultra is the colour schemes. Also the neck is too amber for me. But they sound great.
  24. Although I would probably get an extra dummy knob added, just in case you want to mess with it later on.
