  1. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Mesa Powerhouse 4x10? I bought an empty one and cant figure out the wiring. There are two black and two white wires coming from the crossover. I totally understand series and parallel wiring, and I was expecting just two wires from the crossover. I know its a longshot, but worth a try! Thanks
  2. I'd be keen to know whether there is a difference to the listening audience. I have only ever had ported cabs and the extent of my knowledge is that the air movement from the port makes my trousers flap. I hope Bill Fitz can give a good simple explanation.
  3. Mine took a 5 x 5 ft sheet of ply each. The decent Baltic birch 15mm ply. Mine cost me about $450 each in materials, so that's about 250 pounds. They are astonishing cabs (with the right driver). I sold my GK 115RBH and 410RBH because these perform better than those, in all departments! I used 3012HO drivers (I think 400 watts each). I used Eminence BGH-25 horn and built the recommended crossover. I do have to back off my treble because the clarity is astounding.
  4. I use ABM on mine (check my avatar). Their stuff is very expensive though. ETS makes the best quality hardware in my opinion, and their headless system has a nice headpiece with a pre drilled hole for truss rod adjustment. I had to drill my ABM ones to do the same thing. That was a scary moment!
  5. Don't rule out others. The Bill Lawrence P-46 is fantastic. It has an odd number of poles that make it suitable for 5 string too. Check out reviews.
  6. I have been tempted to see what all the fuss is about with Sire basses. For the money they seem like a no-brainer. There are lots of threads about poor tuners and control knobs. I think Mr Miller was involved with spec'ing the basses?
  7. I had a Thumb through neck and whilst it looks pretty cool, the neck dive made it very tiring to play. And like you I play it quite high up. I was looking for a Streamer Stage II 5 string for ages but never came across a good used one. Expensive now too!
  8. I built a Simplexx 15, one of Bill's designs. It is very, very good.
  9. Shame it doesn't extend to Canada. I am still in two minds whether or not to take a chance on one!
  10. Don't know much about Line 6 stuff. Is it meant to be a bass amp too? I doubt the speakers will be up to bass.
  11. I run a 1001RB head into two BFM Jack 12 cabs. I sold my 410RBH and 115RBH cabs because they couldn't compete! Anyways, a very loud, punchy head with a great EQ. It must be my ears because I don't find the boost makes a loot of difference to the sound other than making it louder. I also have 400RB and 2001RB head.
  12. One of my best rigs was a Hartke 7000 head running in bi-amp mode, with 215XL and 4.5XL cabs. wish they still made the 7000.
  13. Al I think you'll end up with great cabs whoever you decide to go with. This thread isn't about the Jacks, but FYI they are self build cabs. Anyone can buy his plans. My two Jack12's meet and exceed your criteria! Anyway, back to the thread!
  14. I got confused early on in this thread when reference was made to BF cabs. Thought you meant Bill Fitzmaurice cabs! I was just about to start raving about my Jacks!
  15. Its only a matter of time before the BFM wit kicks in.
  16. I just bought an Ibanez Portamento 5 string. I played lots of different makes in the shop and the Ibanez felt the most comfortable, and was more flexible soundwise with two pickups and piezo saddles. It really is a very good bass. You should track one down and try it.
  17. I am discovering that my two 1x12 BFM Jacks are way better than my GK 115 and GK 410 stack. I can get louder and punch through better. I am having difficulty hearing the GK stack when standing right in front, surprisingly!
  18. I know what I am using next time!
  19. I remember having a better experience at this venue with my two Jack 12's. My GK cabs are the wedge shaped ones, so if I angle them will the crowd still hear them ?
  20. For the first time ever I played a gig and was being told my people out front (including some musicians) that I was way too loud. But when I turned down to a level that sounded good to them, I couldn't hear myself. WTF. Crappy room acoustics? I don' like in-ears, but thinking I may need to send some bass to my ears and trust others to set my amp volume. Has anyone else had similar issues? Here was my setup that night - GK 1001 head GK 410RBH and GK 115RBH cabs. Fender Elite 5/Stingray 5
  21. I just picked up a new Elite 5 and totally agree they sound awesome and build is great. First thing I checked was if it has a battery. Good luck getting the cover off!! I had to carefully pry it through the screw hole. Once off I had to gently sand it all the way round!! Seems crazy on a $1900 bass, but that's the only issue. There's quite a difference between active and passive. The eq is lovely. It doesn't have crazy amounts of boost. Awesome.
  22. My custom Jazz 5 doesn't have a radius. It feels great. For some reason I find slapping easier with a radius. But that could be because I am sh*te!
  23. I think they are great for the money. The piezo sound really nice. Ibanez have just brought out an acoustic bass with the same piezos. SRH500. Also great!
