2.
Awesome amp Ian. Have a bump!
Thanks mate. I might have to drop the price.
3. Hi My long-term gigging headless bass in my avatar uses EMG CS & P5 pickups, together with their 3-band parametric eq. As a builder I have used EMGs a lot and from personal experience with projects I haven't noticed much difference in tone when using different timber, larger bodies, downsized bodies, chambered bodies etc. However, in my opinion these are noticeable when using passive systems. Particularly timbers used. I've recently gone back to passive jazz basses and the sound improvement compared to the active bass has been quite noticeable to other band members. If you decide to go active, just make sure you can bypass the circuit by means of a passive switch. Don't forget - we all wanna see pics of this bass!! Cheers Ian
4. I've now decided to sell my 1001 head. Its in the 'for sale' section. I had two RBH cabs, and the bi-amping feature is really good. Great cabs - just mega heavy.
5. I have no choice but to sell my gear now, as I'm off to Canada!!! So this is going first. Bought new from the Gallery. Brilliant amp, plenty of power. It's been in a rack since new, so only very minor evidence from screw mounting on the ears. Any trial welcome (Essex). Rack ears/handles and screws included. £330, postage extra. Or I'll include a DB112 cab, £550 total. Thanks Ian
6. Brilliant workmanship on these basses. What does it sound like?
7. I'm thinking of selling mine now that I've got my 902C
8. Another one of my impulse buys that doesn't get used! I don't understand how this thing works but it is amazing. Read the reviews. It kind of increases bottom and clarity in a different way than just tweaking your amps EQ. That's my understanding! Bought new, and still looks new. Its in the original packaging with all instructions. £60 inc delivery. Cheers Ian
9. Hi In my opinion the GK is the best on your list. The RBH range is much better though. I do agree about the Hartke. I had a Hartke 7000 head running a 215XL and 4.5XL cabs. The 4.5XL cab is fantastic, and is actually quite cheap now. Only downside is the weight. That is one rig I would loved to have kept, but weight just became a problem. Good luck!
10. Si Just got back from hols, so I'm right on it!! Next job is the headstock, then the lacquer. It's gonna look good. Ian
11. I was inspired to by my SB1000 after seeing an ad in this mag.
12.
Ah cool I might have to look into how to do this sort of thing, i've always been interested in it
You can buy all my tools when I emmigrate to Canada! Then you will be able to do it!!
13. So basically ignore the manufacterers specs, except impedance I guess, and let your ears judge. Thanks Alex.
14.
Power handling is the most quoted spec to imply performance, but it's also the least significant. Those specs which are significant are not available from any manufacturer, so it still boils down to trying before buying to be sure of a happy result.
Bill, I've always thought sensitivity is an important part of a cabs performance. I've seen some mind blowing threads here getting way too technical, so go easy on me! So when buying speakers should we be going for cabs with the highest sensitivity poss? Ian
15.
Thats STUNNING! How often do you get figured wood like that (hmmm, sounds dirtier than I'd imagined!)? I'm gonna be looking to build a jazzer 5string with a striking grain, hopefully I'll be another satisfied customer!
Thanks! This bookmatched top is 20mm thick. Usually they are about 6 to 8mm. I was tempted to hang on to this one, but I keep finding other nice pieces of wood!
