1. Hi In my opinion the GK is the best on your list. The RBH range is much better though. I do agree about the Hartke. I had a Hartke 7000 head running a 215XL and 4.5XL cabs. The 4.5XL cab is fantastic, and is actually quite cheap now. Only downside is the weight. That is one rig I would loved to have kept, but weight just became a problem. Good luck!
2. Si Just got back from hols, so I'm right on it!! Next job is the headstock, then the lacquer. It's gonna look good. Ian
3. Final price drop before taking to tip.
4. I was inspired to by my SB1000 after seeing an ad in this mag.
5.
Ah cool I might have to look into how to do this sort of thing, i've always been interested in it
You can buy all my tools when I emmigrate to Canada! Then you will be able to do it!!
6. So basically ignore the manufacterers specs, except impedance I guess, and let your ears judge. Thanks Alex.
7.
Power handling is the most quoted spec to imply performance, but it's also the least significant. Those specs which are significant are not available from any manufacturer, so it still boils down to trying before buying to be sure of a happy result.
Bill, I've always thought sensitivity is an important part of a cabs performance. I've seen some mind blowing threads here getting way too technical, so go easy on me! So when buying speakers should we be going for cabs with the highest sensitivity poss? Ian
8.
Thats STUNNING! How often do you get figured wood like that (hmmm, sounds dirtier than I'd imagined!)? I'm gonna be looking to build a jazzer 5string with a striking grain, hopefully I'll be another satisfied customer!
Thanks! This bookmatched top is 20mm thick. Usually they are about 6 to 8mm. I was tempted to hang on to this one, but I keep finding other nice pieces of wood!
9.
just out of interest, do you make these yourself?
Yes I make them myself. I love the Jazz bass shape! Still as popular as ever.
10. price drop £40 the lot. Make a nice 5.3 or 2.6 ohm 450w 3x10" cab
11.
He means that he will route the cavitys out for whatever you need. I think lol
Exactly that. The price includes routing a neck pocket to suit your neck, pickup routes and control cavity. I can pre-drill for the bridge. I'd need all the parts to ensure accuracy. Cheers Ian
12. I've got two Celestion 150w Sidewinder 8 ohm speakers in a carpet covered, steel grilled home made cab, metal sprung handles, plastic corners £20 the lot. I'd prefer collection. Cheers Ian
13.
Arrrgh, I want this one even more! No money til end of september
Sorry!! But you'll want the burl one EVEN more! Just posted another.
14. Jazz body with lovely thick maple burl bookmatched top over brazilian mahogany rear. Routed to your neck/pickup/cavity requirements. £160 inc delivery.
15. I heard one at the Gallery played thru Laneys 8 x 10 and I have to say it sounded very average. It just didn't do it for me. But at least it turned on without blowing anything!
16. Hi, It's coming back to me now. I'm getting this bass confused with a recently sold custom with Wizards. However, this one I sold the neck, body and pickups. I didn't assemble the bass. I see what you mean about the bridge. Cheers Ian
17. Sorry to hear you encountered problems with the bass. I'm not sure I agree with you about the bridge being in the wrong position. I've got numerous close-up pics of the bass before Shaggy bought it. The countersunk neck ferrules are meant to come out. You don't need to glue or force them in. They were a perfect fit (got pics of the originals!). I can't comment why the neck started to play up. It was a stock Might Mite neck that just got a lacquering. It all adjusted ok when it was assembled. Nice looking bass though! Chop
18. Jazz body, brazilian mahogany with quarter inch watery-flamey maple bookmatched top. Routed out for a 5-string neck, which is a bit narrower than say a mightymite neck, so it could be widened to accommodate. £145 inc postage and all routing. Cheers Ian
