Its a shame they don't do a 3 x 12, or have the six splittable into 'two' cabs, as I have an Epi UL902C head (stereo). Bugger.
I thought the 7000 series was pretty damn good lol.The 7400 was a very powerful head with a very useable EQ. I also owned an 'Integrated Bass System' Marshall too and that had a good tone for a 200W head.
Yep that's the one I had! I must have had a serious mis-match - it didn't sound particularly loud or good! I remember the ads pushing the fact that it peaks at 4000w. Yeah right! But its all down to what you like I guess. Lemmy obviously loves Marshall, and I wouldn't slate it to his face!
Hi a friend of mine sent me this a while ago.http://www.musikding.de/product_info.php?cPath=103&products_id=1033
Seems a lot of money for a handfull of components! At least it looks like few components from the photo.

I used to rackmount mine in a 2U rack case, but I drilled some holes in the top where the fan is. It was a flat panel ABS case, not the SKB style.

That's gotta be the heaviest cab I've seen! I thought 100 pounds was heavy!

Nice neat installation there Steve. Can't wait for your comments after a gig. Nice bass too!

I used to gig with a 411pro (4x10) and a 115pro. Apart from the weight, I'd say they are as good as the RBH GK cabs I used to own. Great value for money. You can't go wrong. Your back might complain a bit!!

Spare ashdown knobs... anyone know where to get them?!

Speak to Martin Burrows at Ashdown. He's sent me fuses free of charge. They have really good customer service. -
Help me choose a cab! Schroeder, Dr. Bass, Genz & 2x12 musings...
Chopthebass replied to wateroftyne's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi all Like the title says, I'm thinking out loud... I've had a Schroeder 21012L for a couple of years, and done many, many gigs with it many different situations. It's been fab every time. Now, for the first time, I'm considering a change for two reasons. 1 ) GAS 2 ) My new head With regards to 1 ) - yeah... I'm an idiot but I'm human and a like a change every now and then. As for 2 ) - I recently bought a MESA MPulse 600 head which is fab'n'groovy and nice and round and tubey, just how I like it. However, it has big booty... as does the Schroeder. Put them both together, along with flatwound-strung Precisions, and it's MASSIVE, and possibly a little overpowering. It's not so much a problem with my fretted which is ace, but my Fretless P isn't as defined and growly as I'd like. It's there if I DI from the head to the FOH, but it's kinda lost via the cab. I've been thinking of getting the board of my fretless epoxied to tighten it up, but.. I dunno. I also switched to rounds and half-rounds, but that gives me more of a 'boiiing' than a growl. Don't like 'em. Anyway, to cut a long, rambling, story short... I quite fancy experimenting with a new cab. Probably a 2x12. The general criteria is... - Not too big (preferably with a depth of less than 44cm as that means it'll fit in the cupboard under the stairs during quieter times) - Not too heavy (my Schro is 26kgs, so 30kg tops, say...) - 600w @ 4ohm minimum - Able to to the job as a standalone cab at a noisy pub gig, with a big'n'focused bottom end Candidates (not all 2x12s!) include... Schroeder 410 Schroeder 1210 Schroeder 1212 Dr. Bass 2460 Genz NeoX 212 Aggie 212 Epi UL212 TecAmp 212 EBS 212 NEO Zoot 212 ...and probably a million others. I REALLY like the look fo the Genz and the DR. Bass, but are these good standalone cabs? I love Schroeder, and I'd be keen to see if the 410L has a slightly tighter bottom-end, too. Not much chance to try one, though. I'd be interested to hear your opinions, even if it's 'Stick with the Schroeder you fool. It's just a GAS attack!'. Thanks for not falling asleep yet.
Hi mate, As you may know I have 3 x Aguilar DB112s. Brilliant. Not sure if their 2 x 12 will sound any different than two 1 x 12s. A very good speaker if portability is your thing. Looks like I'm getting a fourth to go with my Epi 902c. A monster compact rig. Had an Epi 2 x 12 for a while. I'm just not that keen on Neo speakers. To me, they all seem to lack a bit of low end grunt. Not had any problems with the Agi's Ian -
I heard this gear for the first time at the London Guitar Show last year, and I thought it sounded pretty average. It looks like hi-fi gear and I was expecting a lot, but it just didn't deliver. Very poor bottom IMO.
Yeah, I noticed that when it popped up in one of those google ads at the top of the page. They don't seem to be offering the 1x12 without the horn now though (unless I'm missing something).
I'm sure Mike could make you one without the horn.

Only tried the reds. You are probaly better off with fuse-wire!

Anyone know when the Piccolo will be available? I can't find any mention on Epi's web site.

After a bad experience with a fault on my new DB750, I searched for a quality high-powered head that had the ability to drive 2-ohms. I settled on the Titan because it has some useful features. Two identical channels is extremely useful. These are basically Big Block 750 pre-amps. Plus there's the ability to preset a 'solo' volume and overdrive on each channel. All these cool features are footswitchable. Within a week, and before I gigged it, it started to distort at lounge volume! Fortunately Westside Distribution in Glasgow said that they have an approved Mesa service company. EMS, not far from me in Southend. I took it straight to them and it turned out to be a power supply fault. 4 weeks later it's fixed and ready for gigging. Gig night arrived, and with my amp track record, I took along my GK1001 as backup. Anyway, here's my thoughts on the amp: Construction 10 Solid thick milled aluminium fascia and knobs. Bomb proof sleeve. They do a rack mount version, but they are no different, and the amp is just slid into the sleeve from the rear, and secured by a timber strap and four long bolts, screwed in from the base. No rack handles, as I considered taking out of the sleeve and mounting in a rack bag. Weighs a ton! With 22 mosfets and 4 valves I guess a lot of the weight is the PSU. Flexibility 10 Each channel has gain, overdrive, parametric mid, active bass/treble, passive mid and its own master vol and solo facility. All features are controlled by the included footswitch. 1400w into 2-ohms should give endless headroom. Sound & Performance 1 Used for one gig with a CIJ JB75-100US and very disappointed. It was a typical pub gig, and we are an average rock covers band, so you would have thought the amp in this situation would have had headroom and power to spare? Wrong. I used it with my three Aguilar DB112 cabs, giving 2.6 ohms and capable of handling 900w, so there's not a problem there. The amp has an impedance switch on the back that you must use if using 2-ohms. So this was turned on. Basically the amp run out of steam, was running so hot all the facia knobs were hot (not warm) to the touch and worst of all it had a weird compression to the sound. If you imagine a compressor set too high and you loose all attack, but it gets louder as the note decays, well it was like that. I couldn't play quietly because the sound was being boosted. So I had no dynamics. For the second half I switched to my GK head, but had to lose one cab because of the impedance, and instantly loads more power & headroom. It went back to EMS who tested it and found no fault. Back it went to Westside for them to test. They told me the amp has a built-in compressor/limiter in front of the preamp. So what they did was to make some internal adjustments and they assured me it has made considerable difference. Well that was the last straw. I didn't want an amp that has an un-defeatable compressor in it, and also one that's been modified from standard. I hate compressors with a vengeance. Personally I've always found them to take away your dynamics, but thats only my view. After discussing with Alex at The Gallery, I ended up swapping it for an Epifani UL902c. I'll review that soon, but basically WOW!! Value for money 0 This is one of the most expensive heads out there. If the amp is functioning properly, this really is a poor head in my opinion. Maybe there still was something wrong with the head, but for me, if a new product goes wrong, it puts me right off. So unfortunately my experiences with Mesa haven't been good. I can't fault Westside Distribution in Glasgow. Excellent service and communication. All the above is my personal opinion, and I'm sure there are lots of satisfied Mesa users out there. Cheers Ian
I'm sorry not to have seen this earlier but I have been very busy of late. As a previous customer of Ian's ( He built the bass in my avatar ) I can only say that his work is of the very highest standard. I've been playing Bass and Guitar for 30 odd years and played many different instruments from very cheap to 'oh my God, how much'!!!! And the Bass he's built for me is the best I've played by some margin. He exceeded my expectations and is a great bloke to deal with as well so buy with confidence. If I was looking for a 5 I'd buy it. I thought I'd put a couple of pics on just to show the standard. Hope you don't mind Ian........
Hey thanks for the nice words Dave. And a pleasure to deal with you Sir. I think you hit the nail on the head with your timber choices. Tonally and aesthetically superb. We ended up with a big sounding bass with tons of bite.
thomann is in germany, i dont think you have to pay imports because its part of the EU (could be wrong). they stock barts.
No import to pay. Apart from adding the shipping, the price you see is the price you pay. Dunno if the naff euro value makes Thomann prices not so good at the mo. -
