Hi, I briefly had a DB750 and was running into three DB112 cabs. It was awesome! Two cabs will still be great. I think the fact they aren't Neo cabs contributes to the great bass response. I found the head too 'woolly' in the end, so got a Mesa. But the cabs I'd definetly recommend with your head.
I emailed these guys the other day asking where I could get a UV tube for my Trace (now found!). Didn't hear a jot back from them.
I've used EMS very recently and they are really enthusiastic and always helpful. You are best ringing them. Ask for Ian.
So you'd recommend the v12 for my setup then? I was going to get the Big Block 750 as an alternative
For the extra two or three hundred quid, I'd go for the Titan, as its like having two big block 750 preamps in one. You can set up different sounds for each channel, set different solo and overdrive settings for each channel also. This make it very flexible in my opinion. You'd have to crank the Titan to very loud levels to damage your 8x10. I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm putting just over 1200w into 900w of cabs, and I'm getting told to turn down! Go for it.
Cheers Ian. I do get slightly confused by this though, I always thought you had to keep the wattage level lower than the level of the cab? The cab is 800 watt? So wouldnt the v12 be too much for it? I probably sound stupid for asking, but I never had the head for all this stuff! Dave.
True to a point. My three cabs total 900w, and my head is 1400w. The amp is never pushed, so I'm always on the safe side. Before I had two Epifani 410 cabs each capable of 1000w, and I was using a GK1001 700w head. I found it sounded better with one cab than two, as I wasn't pushing the cabs enough. Unless you plan to make your ears bleed and disembowel the first 6 rows of your audience, your setup will be very very good.
Do the 84's sound good for slap as well as finger style?
Hey Dave, I'll let you know soon. I got Andy to make a 5-string set of the 84's for my custom Jazz I'm building. They are supposed to have more output than standard US pups, so I'm leaving the bass passive. I'll keep you posted. Ian ps. Are you thinking of changing your Zappbass pickups?
Hey guys. I was hoping some of you might be able to help me on this. I'm thinking of buying a mesa boogie v12, to be honest I'm not great at working out the whole wattage and ohms thing. I have an Ampeg SVT-810E cab, will I be able to run the v12 through it? Any advice would be appreciated, cheers!
Hi, The Titan head runs 1200w into 4-ohms, a bit less into 8-ohms, and if you flick the switch on the rear to 2-ohms you can get 1400w into 2-ohms. So, it will definitely be a trouser-flapping match for your cab! Go for it. Having two identical channels is sooo useful. Cheers Ian
The self-adhesive copper shielding tape is fairly easy to work with. Shielding paint can be messy to work with.
I have to disagree. If you've done a nice routing job, you can achieve a really neat sheilding job with the conductive paint. Check out Overwaters.
Pah.. time and place and all that. An ABM900 sold on eBay for £360 a few days ago, I hope you get a good price Chopthebass. If this goes for silly money I will cry into my keyboard...
That is a good price. These RRP for more, I guess coz they are british made, and current models. Anyway, someones bid at £399, so its sold. I'm happy with that. I may get more bids - you never know. -
I'm thinking about making a custom bass, Though I'm not sure what the fret spacing should be for a 36" 5 String neck. Does anyone here know what would generally be the best fret sizes all down the neck? Thanks guys.
If you PM me your email address, I'll send you an Excell programm that calculates the fret spacing for ANY scale length. Cheers Ian
Wotsit sound like?
I was surpried how powerful the eq is on this amp. People often say the Ashdown is 'woolly', but I certainly wouldn't say that about this head. I tried it thru two Aguilar DB112 cabs and it has excellent clarity with a very big underlying bass. The new on-board compressor is extremely usable, even on high settings. Another BC member who bought one off me is extremely pleased about how his P-Bass is 'felt'. I'm not a big fan of distortion on bass, but the valve grind can be set so it only works when played hard. Which I guess might be useful. I like the bass clean! -

Aaah. I see. Its a shame they pre-drilled the pickguard on my JB75-100US CIJ. Thanks for the info. Ian
Oh, by the way. THIS IS CONSIDERED TO BE SHOUTING. No need for it.
Chill out. I'm sure he just left his caps lock on!

On my recently purchased CIJ Jazz, there are thumb rest holes pre-drilled in the scratchplate just below the G string. Why the hell is it there? Surely its not a thumb rest in that position. Ive seen other Jazzes with it above the E. Where is the correct place for a 75? The same applies to a 62 Precision - where should the rest be? I'd like to see some pics, as I've bought a couple and I wanna put them on in the correct place! Cheers Ian
