I'm thinking about making a custom bass, Though I'm not sure what the fret spacing should be for a 36" 5 String neck. Does anyone here know what would generally be the best fret sizes all down the neck?
Thanks guys.
If you PM me your email address, I'll send you an Excell programm that calculates the fret spacing for ANY scale length.
Cheers
Wotsit sound like?
I was surpried how powerful the eq is on this amp. People often say the Ashdown is 'woolly', but I certainly wouldn't say that about this head. I tried it thru two Aguilar DB112 cabs and it has excellent clarity with a very big underlying bass. The new on-board compressor is extremely usable, even on high settings. Another BC member who bought one off me is extremely pleased about how his P-Bass is 'felt'. I'm not a big fan of distortion on bass, but the valve grind can be set so it only works when played hard. Which I guess might be useful. I like the bass clean! -
on ebay now. No reserve.

I really don't want to risk ebay again!
How about £575?? -
ah, right ok, just read the offer bit
I'd be looking for around £600 -
Aaah. I see.
Its a shame they pre-drilled the pickguard on my JB75-100US CIJ.
Thanks for the info.
Oh, by the way. THIS IS CONSIDERED TO BE SHOUTING. No need for it.
Chill out. I'm sure he just left his caps lock on! -
On my recently purchased CIJ Jazz, there are thumb rest holes pre-drilled in the scratchplate just below the G string. Why the hell is it there? Surely its not a thumb rest in that position. Ive seen other Jazzes with it above the E. Where is the correct place for a 75?
The same applies to a 62 Precision - where should the rest be?
I'd like to see some pics, as I've bought a couple and I wanna put them on in the correct place!
Cheers

Dunno why it has to be 3U as its probably only one circuit board, and unlikely to have a huge transformer!
Perhaps 3u gives the impression you are getting more for your buck? -
I'd be interested in that as well Ian. I've decided that I'm going to go the Pod xt pro plus Power amp route becuse I 'think' it will be a flexible rig. Of course it could just be GAS.............Damn!!!!
I though the same as you Dave when I decided to give it a go, but in a live situation I only found a few modelled sounds that I liked. I can see the benefits in a recording studio though. Perhaps I'll wait till you buy one, then I can try it
Maybe if the poweramp I was using was a better match I could have boosted the thinner sounds. -
I'm well & truly p*ssed off with ebay buyers! Twice I had buyers pull out for stupid reasons.
So it's here again for sale and it must go as its taking up space in my hall and I can't take any more grief from the missus!
I bought a load of these in October brand new, but were incorrectly priced online. They didn't twig in time, and my order went through! Their loss - my gain. So this is up for sale at less than half Thomann price. It hasn't been used, and its boxed and unmarked.
So, the first reasonable offer will be accepted. Thanks,
Ian
Now £399 on dreaded ebay. -
I had an earlier bass pod pro (rack mountable) and I could never get it to perform live. Maybe it was a mis-match with the power amp I was using, but it never seemed that loud. I probably gave up too easily!
Maybe I'll give it another go if someone can recommend a power amp that definitely works with it. -
That tin bass is quality! I'd be amazed if someone bought it.
I remember Tony Levin used to use a specially made 3-string Stingray, till he lost it in a house fire! -
Seeing how the sleeve is made for my Titan V12, I'd have a go at making one. The Titan is a rack head just pushed into a sleeve, and a back screwed on. Its going to be seriously heavy whatever you do.
That's a cute (and presumably pretty potent) rig.
I just... I'd like to be able to pump 435 valve watts into one of Acme 2x10s. I think that would sound monstrous.
Cute - I like that! 1400w of cuteness!
Acme cabs are supposed to be loud. Sound interesting. If they did a 3x10, you could presumably have each driver wired to its own speakon socket, then away you go. I think thats the way I'd do it. Its an unusal head, but has the potential to be a real trouser flapper! -
The only thing I can think of is to have one cab with three driver in, with a seperate connection to each. Are you wanting to put all that power into one driver?
Why can't you have three small cabs? Here's my small rig. And I do mean small!

I have the Titan V12 which is like two identical 750 preamps (two channels) and a bigger power amp section. 1400w into 2-ohms. Its the best sounding amp I've ever owned. And I agree, the overdrive facility is just brill. You can set it just right, where it only clips when played hard. Great EQ. You must get a Mesa!
Is the pic of the hardcase your'e selling with the bass, or selling it separately? It might fit my Overwater 6, and im looking for a flightcase. Theres another im looking at also, but I would need to retrim the foam to fit, but if this one might fit my 6er, then I might be interested in this flightcase.
You would have had to cut the headstock of ya OW to fit that case!
Didn't your six come with a case? Should do for the price! -
I think I'm right in saying that the GK head has a seperate amp for the tweeter, and the crossover of frequebcies is sorted out in the head. So, the crossover in your new cab won't be needed. You'd need to get a 4-way lead made up, in order to link the GK's 50w amp section direct to the horn, and not go thru the crossover in the cab.

Thanks guys. I think its an age thing! I'm hankering after vintage tones now.
Zapp, can't wait to see your CAR. -
ian,
very, very nice brace there!
i'm picking up a P-bass from malcolm on saturday.......like you, got a great deal.
Say Hello to Malcolm for me!
I just realised I posted two close-ups of the Jazz. I've now replaced one with the P-Bass close up. -
Exactly the same thing has happened to me. Plus I've come from 5-string. See my bass porn thread...
