First up is a genuine Fender MIA pickguard part no. 099-2022-000. I was told these would fit CIJ's, but they don't!! I got one to fit courtesy of our Jase on BC, so this one is for sale. Its new, but the film has been taken off as I was so convinced it would fit, and I didn't want bits of film under the screw heads! £20 **SOLD** And the pickguard that came off the bass is a black 3-ply CIJ one. Unused. £10 **SOLD** Also a surplus white MIM 3-ply pickguard. £5 Gold Schaller 3D bridge. £20 **SOLD** Black 6-string unused bass bridge. Narrow string spacing. £10 Finally, two unused Fender gig bags that came with my recent CIJ purchases. £5 each. Thanks!
+1. Never heard the word "growl" used for the Precision sound before.
Perhaps its a combination of the P bass sound and the type of amp. Could it be the 'growl' is an amp, say an ampeg, being pushed hard?

Hi Malcolm, I can't comment on the 62 with US pickups, but my PB62-60 with Jap pickups sounds huge. It definitely seems to replicate what I know as the precision tone. Ian

I dunno if there are tow ranges, but I went to Ashdowns premises in Chelmsford and they had one hanging up, so I askes to have a look, and what a disppointment. You could get a bus under the strings the action was so high. But, setup aside, it just looked an average bass thats been mass produced in Korea. Nothing special. The odd angles are there just to make it look different. It just doesn't work. Sorry Ashdown!

I've had MIA jazzes in the past, and I have just bought a CIJ precision and CIJ Jazz. The Jazz comes with US pickups, and is in my opinion both are better made than the US ones I had. They don't come with a hard case though. I got a great deal from Malcolm at the Bass Emporium. A great guy who knows his stuff, and I can thoroughly recommend him.

I have a new CIJ jazz and want to fit chrome ashtray p/up covers. Two questions - is it obvious where the bridge cover goes? The front is no problem as the pickguard has holes already. Secondly, what screws are used? Where can I get them? I assume they are round headed type and not CSK like the pickguard screws. Cheers Ian

Definitely www.alparts.co.uk They do chrome, black and gold in all styles, inc dual concentric. They specifically say suitable for EMG. I've bought sets and they fit fine. Hughes & Kettner BassKick BK 300... any experiences?
Chopthebass replied to wateroftyne's topic in Amps and Cabs
Its interesting that this combo comes with a 4-ohm internal speaker, thus giving 300w, but the extension speaker jack is wired in series. So if you add another cab you'll get less power! ie. add another 4-ohm cab and you make 8-ohms. You'll probably then get around 220w - ish. -
I found resting my thumb on the low B instead of a pickup helped, so that effectively I was playing a 4 string until I deliberately wanted to play the low B. So only at that point did I have to really think about playing the new string, if you see what I mean?
+1 It also stops the B string resonating when you're not using it.

Sounds coool. I love the MM/J pickup combination. I'm sure this deserves to be in the porn section when complete.
I really like the sound of the Marcuss Miller sig Bass but I'm not overly keen on the big black scratchplate that the controls are mounted into, so my question is......... Is the body routed out under this plate or is it just cosmetic?
Hi mate, You might find the pickup route for the front p/up may not be as neat as the rear - as its intended to be covered by the scratchplate. I could be wrong, but I know that is the case with some J-basses. Cheers Ian

Yep they are making a big thing of the Klystrons being made in the UK. And I've still got one of the buggers for sale!

If they're anything like their heads, they won't sound as loud as anticipated.

Hi, How long are you happy to wait? I have a five-string custom Jazz under construction - nearly finished. Ash with flame maple top, hi-gloss, Wizard Custom 84's, passive, gold, black or chrome hardware - you choose, rear routed, 5-knob holes (three pots used). Lic Fender neck, rosewood fingerboard.. £500 Cheers Ian

Why is there a switch to select the speaker load being used? I thought this was just on valve amps, not SS. I'm curious as my Mesa Titan V12 has a switch that you engage when going down to 2-ohms. I thought if an amp can handle a 2-ohm load there's no need for a switch. No doubt there is a technical explanation! Thanks

How can they produce them for £100!!! Are they any good? I've often thought about modifying one.
Have built 5 sides of the box, put it in the boot of my car and found that I can't fit the rack through the opening even though it would theoretically fit once it's in. Doh! Need to knock ~2" off the height. Also now that I have some experience in dealing with the joints I might go without the 3/4" runners along each joint and just be more precise with the screwing and more liberal with the glueing. Alex
You could use biscuit joint instead of 3/4" timber runners - this will keep things aligned when clamping and save a bit of weight and avoid the need for screws. Just a thought!
Damn!, that was close then!, i got a JB75-100 US in vhw with maple block board identical to the one i sold to Lysdexia a year ago, im gonna soup her up a tad!
What do you have planned for the bass?

Yet another Class H high power amp weighing next to nothing! If its anything like their cabs it'll be a corker! Shame it looks like a Maplins kit. http://www.accugroove.com/synergy.pdf

Andy's made me a custom set of Jazz pickups for a 5-string. They'll be appearing in a custom Jazz shortly...
-
Not sure if this classes as a ding, but on the way to a gig a while back with an Ah600 and two trace elliot cabs, along with an all graphite Status 2000 in the back of my car, when some idiot behind decides to forget using his brakes, and severely modifies the rear of my car (and my gear). The Status was in two halves! My cabs were buggered. I managed to get empty cabs direct from TE when they were in Maldon. The Status went in the bin.

I've not heard a bad thing about Wizard pickups. £80 for a pair of overwound 84's. These are supposed to be awesome. Chat with Andy there and explain the sound you want, and he'll do you a custom pair. I think they are a great price too.
