1. Thanks. It is a really pretty bass. I had an Overwater 36" scale, and that was bit of a stretch, but going from 34 to 35 was fine.
2. I've decided it's time for a change, and really fancy a Nordy VJ5, so I'm having to sell my US Lakland 55-94 to finance it. I emailed Dan Lakin and he confirmed it's a 1997 bass. Transluscent blue over quilted maple bookmatched facing, with great birdseye maple fingerboard. Fantastic condition - just one small nick on the top radius and a very small nick round the edge of the truss rod recess. The original beige hardcase is in great condition. Everything on the bass works as it should. The MM/J pickup configuration makes for a very versatile bass. I'm looking for £1250. Thanks, Ian
3.
'Relicing' might be fascinating in a 'how the hell do you actually do it in a convincing manner' sort of way... But the whole principle of it is just so *phoney* - I mean, it's basically a lie; remember stonewashed jeans? Relicing is done to confer 'mojo' (whatever that is) on an instrument. There is no shortcut to this. But more importantly it is done to confer 'mojo' on the player. There is no shortcut to this either. I remember over 20 years ago some photographers would buy a new Nikon F3 and wear the black paint down to the metal, on the corners. They just couldn't bear to be thought of as 'new'. But it's all a deceit, a symptom of impatience, and what's the point of that?
Nicely put in words what most of us are thinking!!

5. Not sure if this is real or not, but entertaining questions & answers!!
6. Is that the DB112 or 210?
7. You could spray some tinted lacquer to give that white maple a vintage look. DM Guitars in Rayleigh, Essex do spray cans with different tints.
8.
You'd want 3U (you just need some room at the top) A perforated/vented 1U panel would finish it off nicely...
I've got my 1001 in a 2U case and made some vent holes on top where the fan is. Being the modern plastic stuff it looks ok too.

10. I know what you mean about the 'clack'. I don't know why more manufacturers don't opt for a small speaker instead of a horn, like the Hartke 4.5xk (brill cab by the way). Can't help on the H & K. Are you just anti-HF horns? You can attenuate most horns.
11. I've had TE cabs in the past, but now have three of the new Aguilar DB112 (1 x 12") cabs. Fantastic, and although NOT neo speakers, they are still very manageable. If you had four of these though you'd need an amp with 2-ohm capability.
12. Hi, In my opinion, there is no competition - the Hartke 4.5 is a much better cab. I had one of these and a 215xl running off my Hartke 7000 head. Awesome. The 4.5 has a small HF speaker rather than a horn, so I felt the highs were much smoother. Cheeers
13.
That makes it a 1999-2000 Hamster
Thanks Hammy

17. I was intending to modify this as a project bass and add tort scratchplate, ashtrays, Wizards, thru-body, Badass3, but I can't get used to switching from 5 to 4 strings then back again!! So decided it needs to go. The original owner said it was made in 1999. I'll post some pics if you want, but they'll just show a totally mint sunburst MIM jazz bass!! I'm looking for £250. Thanks Ian
18.
Well if there isn't, there should be!
Hey Mr Nimrod - I just checked out your photo website. Wow. Some fantastic pics there. Particlarly the B&W ones.
19. I don't think you'll get a MIM scratchplate to fit. Its because both pickups are the same size. I'm gonna make my own! Allparts are very quick to deliver. But I've also bought from Woodandtronics, although not in UK but good service.
20. Hi Stu, I'm not sure what IEM system you're using, but I can relate to the in-ear sound being different to the front of house sound, and this does, without a doubt, affect your playing. To get round this I connect my line-out from the amp to the PA, but this goes thru my own mini-mixer. I connect a spare PA monitor outs to one channel of my mixer, and then use Shure E2 earphones. I had to spend a bit of time at a live gig to get the PA monitor mix right, but once that was done it hardly changes gig to gig. My amps line-out goes to another channel of my mixer, so I can be as loud as I want in the ears. Plus I have 4-band eq on the mixer to play with. It works for me and I can be as loud as I like without the drummer asking me to turn down! Cheers Ian
21. Hi, I would suggest giving Hartke a look. My very very first bass amp was a Peavey combo, but at only 100w I soon grew out of it. I moved up to Trace Elliot, but soon changed after hearing Hartke. Their 3500 head is extremely potent and will keep up with a gigging rock band. I would recommend their 4.5xl (4 x 10) and 115xl (1 x 15) cabs. Check thomann website as their prices for Hartke are pretty keen. Good luck! Ian
