  1. It’s my favourite fingerboard wood 👍
  2. Some lacquering! I like to put a couple of coats on maple fingerboards before fretting. I don’t like the Fender method where it’s flooded with lacquer after frets are in!
  3. I was in two minds whether to go with a dark fingerboard. It was almost going to be ebony with simple dots. But the birdseyes were speaking to me!
  4. No, I thought about cutting wood covers before glueing the top on, but I’m making ebony covers. Mainly to mimic Wal as close as I can.
  5. You mean rear mount the pickups? I have done that, but with this build the strings will be too far to work well.
  6. Matching headstock finished. I’m reluctant to cut pickup holes until I have them! Still waiting on Bass Culture.
  7. Prepping fingerboard for fret installation IMG_9507.MOV
  8. Test fitting the preamp. Loads of room! waiting on the audio transformer for the balanced DI output
  9. Test fitting the XLR and locking jack.
  10. I’m replicating the plastic truss hole trim piece from ebony. I epoxied a block into the body and made a trim piece for the top. I’ll need to try rout a round bottom slot for access
  11. Neck pocket complete. On to the headstock now
  12. I did some body radii and started contouring. I’m definitely thinking natural finish is the way to go!
  13. I’ve been busy with other builds, but finally got round to glueing up the body. I may keep a natural finish rather than colour. But as usual, I change my mind many times during a build!
  14. I’ve not decided on the tops yet. But I’ll add more pics later
  15. Now your just being greedy Nick! I’m hoping my Wal tribute will be as good as the real thing! I’m not sure how close to the real thing it’ll sound. But I don’t care! It’s all an experiment, albeit an expensive one.
  16. Just finished laser cutting the Wal templates.
  17. Laser time! I’m making a set of templates. It was going to be a one-off build but ended up getting two orders.
  18. Preparing the neck laminates for glueing. Maple and blood wood.
  19. If had a matching piece for the back, then I’d be using it! It’s an amazing top
  20. I have a couple of 5A tops that I’m considering using. I know Wal have matching front and backs so I may go with the flame as I have two sets.
  21. I’m not sure what body woods to use yet, but I do want Birdseye maple with ellipse inlays!
