New Ashdown Klystron Classic 1000 - offers around £800?

Hi, For sale - Boxed, brand new, and unregistered Ashdown Klystron Classic 1000w head (575 + 575w). How about someone make me an offer then!! I'm looking for around £800 Proudly built in the UK, the Classic Series is Ashdown’s flagship bass amp range. Comprising of 500 and 1000-watt Klystron heads, a selection of cabinets and a range of 500-Watt combos, the Classics are about doing everything better – more volume, more dynamics, an extended frequency range and greater versatility. The 575 + 575-Watt Klystron 1000 head features a single input is switchable for passive and active instruments with a blend of solid state and dual triode tube preamps stages. Three straightforward rotary tone controls provide 20dB of cut and boost at 60Hz, 660Hz and 5kHz, and are supplemented by two pairs of additional sliders giving 15dB cut and boost at 180Hz, 340Hz, 1.3kHz and 2.6kHz. A built-in dual band compressor acts separately on the high and low frequency components of the signal to provide precise control, while the on-board sub-harmonic generator turns the Classics into powerhouses of tone. The inclusion of a 4-way footswitch as standard makes Ashdown Classic amongst the most versatile live performance bass amps in the business, providing control over the compressor, sub-harmonic generator, tube grind and EQ pre-shape. Specifications Power Output (RMS) 575 + 575W Thanks Ian
I seem to remember that 4ohm + 8 ohms = 2.7 ohms total not 3.5, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to confirm/deny this
Yep you're right, in fact it's 2.666666666666666 ohms

Hi, I can recommend Transit Cases http://www.transitcases.co.uk/ Very, very well made cases. Ian

I'm 5ft 14in and have abnormally long arms, so 36" scale is no prob. Seriously, it can depend on the bass shape. I had a warwick thumb 5 and with such a short top horn it had bad neck dive and I felt like I was stretching all the time. Its probably the worst bass ever made IMO. Conversly, the basses in my avatar have 24 frets, and a long horn (ooh er), plus being headless gives superb balance. These are 35in scale, and probably the best basses ever made

What does a power conditioner actually do?

Many thanks guys, particularly BOD2. I understand now and probably don't need one. What a great forum! -
What does a power conditioner actually do?

Thanks guys. So, if I get a gig on a boat or powered from a generator, are you saying that the voltage or current can fluctuate and that's why you need a conditioner in those circumstances? And you mention about USA mains - does this spike, and is that what the conditioner protects against? -
It looks quite compact - or is that Ampeg a bit of a monster in size!
-
I've seen Furman conditioners mentioned quite a few times on BW but never actually known what they do. I'm reasonable technical but can someone explain what they do, and when they are used? I saw them mentioned recently regarding problems with a DB750. Now I'm about to buy one of these Agi's so I'm interested! Cheers Ian
Well the big problem you're up against is that there are hardly any 4 ohm 15" woofers available. Combine that impedance difference with the higher sensitivity of the Schroeder due to its undersized cab and high tuning and you'll barely hear the 15". The best 15" for bass guitar bottom is the Eminence Kappalite 3015LF IMO. High sensitivity, good Qts for full bottom down to resonance, huge Xmax. Eminence have a selection of 1x15" and 2x15" designs for the 3015LF to save you doing the work yourself, though now I think about it your best best is to go for as large a cab as you're happy carrying and tune it to 50Hz to get a big hump in the lows to keep up with the Schroeder's high-bass hump. Alex
Thanks Alex. I've not heard of the Kappalite. I'll check out Eminence web site.
I prefer WinISD Pro but it is a fair bit harder on the brain - though worth the effort IMO. What's your situation, are you looking to upgrade an existing cab with a new speaker, build a cab for some speakers you already have, or do a new design from scratch? Budget/needs? I've been through a ton of my own theoretical designs over the past year and despite having some great ideas (if I say so myself!) I've actually settled on a BFM design instead... Alex
Alex, I've ordered a DB750 and Schroeder 210212 cab, and I was thinking of adding a 1x15 cab with about 500w power handling at 4-ohms. This will bring the overall stack down to 2-ohms and unleash the full power of the head. I want the cab to have the same footprint as the Schroeder and be tuned as low as poss. I was thinking of using a B & C 15NDL76. The cab needs to be 584mm wide x 406mm deep, and the height will be whatever volume is required. Ideally I'd like the cab as low as poss. I'll have a go at WinISD, unless someone out there tells me the answer first! Thanks

Thanks for the link Will. Hopefully using it isn't too involved!

Loz, I can't find the pro-tec case you mentioned. I went to their website and this is what I found... http://www.protecmusic.com/items.aspx?Prod...ubCategoryID=34 That doesn't look man enough! Am I looking at the wrong product?Cheers Ian

Thanks Loz, that helps immensly. Please let us know how she performs at gig volume. The Epifani speakers are great. I was using two UL410s a while back before I realised my rig sounded better with one! I now got serious GAS for one of these DB750, so the cabs got sold, so at the moment I'm speakerless!! Anyway, thanks for your detailed responses. Cheers Ian

Does anyone know the simplist way of correctly sizing up cabinets for given drivers, and also correctly calculating port sizes? Most speaker manufacters list the design parameters, all I need is som formulas or methods of calculating volume! I'm sure the brainpower is out there in BW! Cheers
Its just that the grooves in the rollers look like they are size specific.
Steve, Oh yes, I see what you mean. I just had a look at the saddles and you can pop out theroller and threaded bar and swap them round. So it will definitely be ok with a LH bass. Thanks for spotting that! I have taken a pic of one removed, but can't get onto photobucket at the moment. I can email to you if your interested. Ian
