Chopthebass

I tried the R1000w head in Nevada Music a couple of years back. I wasn't that impressed. However I was playing it thru Carvin speakers, which I don't think are the most sensitive or best quality I've seen. This probably accounted for it not really sounding as loud as I was expecting. The sound reminded me of Peavey bass gear. Lots of knobs and sliders, but not many 'nice' usable sounds in my opinion. This 1200 models looks like the same configuration as the R1000. Its good value for money, so I guess if money is tight, then Carvin would be a solution. I think however, you'd be better off with say the current Warwick range. These are now assembled in China, and the Xtreme 10.1 (1000w head) is a monster for about £600. Have a listen though, but try through your own speakers, or at least, not thru Carvins! Cheers Ian

Does anyone own or have any experience of a 210212L or the new 412L? Also, I can't get a response from SHX in Brighton, so I guess it means buying from either Woodandtronics, or Jorg himself. I know some of you have bought from W&T but, with the dollar as it is at the moment, is importing from US a cheaper option? Cheers Ian

The idea is that the further up the neck the strap is, the better the balance. I've also seen one that fits on the rear of the top horn and is an arm that rotates and stops in the correct position. The strap is attached to this and the usual button at the bridge end. Dunno where I saw that! Sorry!

I upgraded the DC to a P5 a year back and it gave a much more usable front pickup with plenty of depth and power. I've heard the SD pickups have a natural 'scooped' or mid-cut sound to them. Its only what I've heard - never used them. I would recommend the CS/P5 EMG arrangement. For your info, I'm using a Bartolini NTMB 3-band circuit with these, and it sounds great. Cheers Ian
