  1. If you have the money I would get a EBS Session 60, amazing little thing and capable of doing a small gig. A lot of love for them on here.
  2. Saw these a couple of weeks ago, I believe there is some info on them in the latest iBass magazine. Keith Duffy helped design/develop them as well I believe. They look good, will be interesting to see if any turn up on here soon.
  3. My three best friends are guitarists and two of them are obsessed with massively scooped guitar sounds. They crank the treble and bass at home when practicing as it sounds good but they never think what sounds good live and what mixes with the band. When I played with them it was always a battle and you get an incredibly muddy sound especially if they are using 12" speakers I found. The third friend is a studio musician and does a smaller ammount of live work but he LOVES mids, and realised a long time ago that scooping the sh*t out of your guitar is not the way to get good tone. I hate scooped guitar sounds and dont think they work live so always discuss this with whoever I am playing with. Guitarists dont need a lot of bass, there is someone else in tthe band who covers that, the name gives it away BASS PLAYER!!! but I realise guitarists are not easy individuals and if you make a comment about their tone you may as well call their child/wife ugly. As has been mentioned, Mids are your friend if your guitarists are scooped, that will be your sonic space, if however they love their mids, then you can get away with a bit more of a scopped sound but some low mids will always help you feel and hear the bass a bit more on stage in my experience.

I just wanted to check that I definately wouldn't be taking a drop in volume by getting one.
  5. I have a Markbass LMII and want to switch to a 2ohm head as I have a a EBS Neo 4x10 and in the future want the option to add a 15" cab. So I fancy a EBS HD350 head but will it compete volume wise with a Markbass LMII running through just a Neo 4x10 4ohm cab? I am not going on watts as all the talk of 'real watts' with the TC 450 and the EBS Reidmar has completely confused me, so has anyone ever A/B'd the two heads? Cheers guys and gals.

  7. I have a Markbass Little Mark II in great condition that I would like to change for an EBS amp. Its about 2 years old and been well looked after but does have a few little marks (excuse the pun) like any used amp. The reason for sale/trade is that I have been using EBS cabs for a while and have a Neo 4x10 at 4ohms. I would like to expand the rig and get a 2x12 or 1x15 and need an amp that can run at 2ohms comfortably. This is no reflection on the amp, it is seriously loud with a 4ohm cab, super lightweight and has been incredibly reliable, not a scratchy pot or funny noise from it once. I just want the option to expand the rig and cant bare to get rid of my Neo cab. I dont know what the going rate is for these so how about [b]£315 ono[/b]? I live in Cheltenham and happy for someone to pick up or I can arrange delivery but PM me because I will need to get a quote. I will also throw in a brand new OBBM speakon to jack cable with the right trade, and I may have some cash to put in for the right amp.   8. I have a couple I really wish I had kept, but at the time I thought I was doingt he right thing and wanted something new. 1. The sonic blue USA Fender Precision my Dad bought me. It was my first 'Proper' expensive bass. I even hassled a member on here recently because I thought he had it. So upset I never kept hold of it. 2. Fender Roscoe Beck V, traded with Happy Jack on here for an amp and cash. Needed an amp but was one of the best basses I have ever owned. Wish I could get another one 3. Squier Japan 80's Jazz bass. Wish I had kept it purely for its value now, I traded it in and got £90 off my USA Precision.

  10. Does anyone know where I can pick up a chrome Fender Precision pickup cover for under £20? I know thomann have them for about £9 but they want about £10 delivery as do bass parts resource. Allparts are sold out of the £9 ones but guess what they have the £20 one. It just seems a stupid amount of money for a bit of metal. I really want one but brain says £20 is too much. Failing that does anyone have any they want to shift?
  11. It depends what you want. Many builders use third party necks and bodies like Sadowsky, Nash, Valenti and I think even Lakland now?? and people love them and I wont knock the quality ever. From a personal perspective though there is no way I would invest £1200 or more in a bass made from off the shelf parts that anyone can buy (warmoth and Martin Sims for example)when I can get something hand made by a good uk builder. I hate to throw Sadowsky into the mix (but I will anyway) but that has always been my 'issue' with them. Amazing basses and the Metros, but I would never spend over 3k on a bass that the company didnt really 'make' in the traditional sense of the word. I would put my money into a GB or Overwater both way better than any Sadwosky I have played or go secondhand and get one of Carey Nordstrands stunning Nordy basses. I have seen Martin Sims bodies and necks and they are amazing quality if you want a parts bass. He build his own range of vintage style basses even with relicing and they look amazing if thats what your after.

  13. Hello, has anyone out there fitted a Fender 62 pickguard to their 60s classic vibe P? I'm not thrilled by the tort guard on the classic vibe and would like a much more authentic looking tort. I also want the holes for the pickup cover as I'm lazy and dont want to mark it out and drill through the Squier guard.

Its grown on me so much, bit heavy and the string spacing is a niggle but the sound is to die for and teh B string is amazing, my band love it, they would kill me if I got rid of it. It will only get replaced for something very special like a GB or MTD 535

  16. A vote for elixirs here. Not long ago I put a set on the stingray V and have been very very happy with them and no signs of the coating coming off. They are not super bright but more than enough for me, in fact I like the sound a bit more now they have died down a little more. Still plenty bright enough for slap and they cut through but the best way I can describe it is they sort of have a warm top end. I have to use them, my sweaty hands destroy strings so fast. The only other strings that have held up are Super Slinkys. I mya go for a set of Ernie Ball coated strings on my jazz next heard really good things. Definately worth getting a set.
  17. Up for sale is my Squier Classic Vibe Precision in Fiesta Red. These need very little introduction, just superb basses in every way, great build quality and superb feel to the neck. This is about 9 months old, mint condition (still has plastic on the scratchplate) and has been in its case in the studio for 90% of its life. I wanted to look and sound like Pino and couldn't resist getting one of these for my Soul band. Sadly the soul band is doing nothing and hasn't done anything for about 4 months and I dont see the situation getting better. Another project coming up requires an upright so that is what this will go towards. It has a crazy grain on the neck, its hard to capture on camera but its almost holographic. If you move it in the light it has a 3D kind of flamed neck, just a beautiful piece of wood. Its hard to move this on, it is probably one of the best feeling basses I have owned second to my Overwater Jazz, no joke. These go for £318 online (I paid more than that) and Guitar Guitar had a secondhand one in at around £280 recently, so because of the condition and because I dont want to lose too much I would like [b]£250.[/b] Alternatively I will trade it (with cash your way) for a NS Design NXT or WAV. It has daddario strings I believe and I will send it in the original Squier shipping box and packaging. PM me for shipping quotes though.   18. Thanks for your messgaes, I should have updated the post but just completely forgot so apologies. Before Christmas I had the funds to get an upright but Jan and Feb are looking pretty miserable due to a cam belt change, MOT and major service on the car. I will be looking again as I need one for a project coming up so I will probably be sending you all messages in the near future to see if you are all still selling.
  19. I really need to make a trip up to Mark at bass direct soon and have another go on a Dingwall Precision or Jazz. I want to change my bass but feel bad going up to marks just to try gear and not buy. Anyway I tried the bottom of the range Dingwall years ago and was very impressed with the feel and the fanned frets didnt effect me in the slightest. The only thing I couldnt get my head around was the size and look of the bass. I couldnt take one into band practice and I would be mocked for a funny looking bass. My best friend is a pro guitarist and he has been mocker for taking a Parker Fly to a gig and not bringing a strat. Im also a big guy so these smaller basses always look like toys on me. This is where I think the Super J and P fit in. I love Fender designs but I dont always want a Fender tone. I love the look of a Precision (I have one) but dont really like the sound, so for me a chance to get a kind of vintage look with a 'better' tone thats not a true Fender Precision and some good innovations like fanned frets, is a bonus. I cant wait to try one.
  20. I'm afraid it would take a lot for me to go back to a standard USA Fender and even then I would never buy one new. I have not played a single USA Fender bass that I thought was worth £600 let alone what they charge. Nasty looking neck, funny finish, bad neck joints, sloppy pickup recesses and bad fret jobs. In comparison I have played a lot of Squier classic vibes and they have all been perfect! Don't waste your money on new Fenders IMHO, get a squier or a Mexican classic Precision. They are not all perfect but 4 out of 5 have been incredible to play and well finished. Good luck with your decision hope you find something you like.
  21. I cant believe I have never heard this band before, gutted as they have already split up but I have two good albums and their previous bands album to work through. This is a bit middle of the road for them but a great band and when you work through the albums you can hear massive Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Velvet Revolver and Wildhearts influences.   23. Loved the look of Dave's bass last night. I have enjoyed the Dingwall's I have played and if I ever gave in to my GAS and went after a 5 string Precision this is likely to be one of the first places I would look. Personally I love fender designs, he got it right IMHO but I am quite happy to have as many companies as possible build their own versions but with their own innovations and a huge range of custom options. Unfortunately due to my experiences over the years if I was looking for a good quality well made Precision or Jazz the last place I would look would be Fender, I would take my Squier over a USA build P any day of the week and if I had a lot of money it would go on a Sei or a Nordy Jazz.
