1. That looks lovely, can you tell me what the string spacing is? I had an old Overwater Jazz and the string spacing was quite narrow like a Stingray 5 but I am looking out for something with a nice broad neck and 19mm spacing. Cheers, Nathan
2. I wasnt completely imagining it then, phew! I must dig that book out, havent had a good look through in a long time. Custom model would explain it, must READ books and not just look at the pictures in future.
There's a black one with a white guard, and blocks. P w/blocks was never a production model... unfortunately.

Aye, there is - maple/black blocks. I can't tell if the neck has Jazz dimensions from memory, but it does say Precision Bass on the headstock. The comment nearby states that the bass was likely made for a custom order.
3. Does anyone have a copy of 'The Fender Bass an illustrated history'? I have one somehwere and am 99% sure that in there is a 'prodcution' Precision with sunburst body and blocked maple neck. Not saying they made it for long but I think they did make it, whether it was made in the 70's is another thing, i will dig the book out tonight. I love it, Blocks, Maple board and its a precision and comes in white, what more could you want. black on maple rocks on the Geddy and looks wicked on this. i want one, just a shame they are Jap because that will mean they will be way out of my 'second bass' budget until they start showing up second hand.
4. My best friend is a composer/session player/writer and swears by the Apogee Duet: http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/duet2.php between the two of us we have been through loads of interfaces and the Apogee stuff craps all over most other interfaces in a similar price bracket. I have the Apogee One and it even makes your Itunes music sound better.
5.
Thanks chaps. What about massage chairs and orthopaedic stuff? Have you tried them? The doc did mention Pilates and Yoga - anyone do this?
IMHO dont waste your time, find a good physio and I mean a good well reccomended one and dont be afraid to pay for a good one. They will solve your problems not by simply relieving what is there but by showing you how to correct the core probem and strengthen the area. Most people who say physio doesnt work for them dont do the work and are too afraid of being in pain when doing the exercise. My better half is a physio and she has helped me with my issues so much. Its not a soft tickle and massage and all better, you will hurt doing proper exercises sometimes but you need to get past it to do better in the long run. Do the work and do what he/she tells you, not just when you have the pain, all the time. A lot of my problems have come from bad allignment etc and Pilates is good for you if you do it properly and work at it. A lot of physios have good opinions of Pilates.
6. I think it depends on what market you are looking to tap into. If you are playing covers in a pub and bars etc then I would say you could get away with playing some originals in the set but I wouldn't do a clear set of each as people tend to lose interest if they dont recognise material. If however you are playing weddings/functions/corporate stuff I would stay well away from originals as without being harsh in 90% of cases noone cares about your original material apart from some mental stoned bloke up the back of the venue in my past cases. I have played in so many orginals bands and its great fun, but in my experience (and the experience of many friends and contacts) it is so hard to get anyone interested in original material unless you have a great music scene in an area with good venues that really push live original music. It depends what gives you a buzz, if thats playing your songs go for it and work at it and enjoy it. I will say you are more likely to get gigs playing good covers though.
Folks, I recently joined a covers band that's rapidly turning into an originals band. It has been suggested that we could do a 50/50 split but I'm not sure whether this is viable. Are covers and originals different "markets", played in different venues to different sorts of audiences? The band leader (an experienced pro muso and songwriter) says that all will be well providing we choose originals that are dance-y, poppy and accessible and in that way sit easily alongside the covers we play. "We'll write and play songs that the audience think they know, but don't, so they'll still get up and dance..." To be fair, the originals that I've been played are catchy and "commercial", but is this covers/originals blend going to work? What do you think? Steve
7. If you are after a Indie/Rock vibe then I can understand looking at some valve Orange stuff, Ampeg also a classic rock amp. If it was me I would go for a lightweight head, Aguilar Tonehammer 500, or Markbass offerings, rock solid and great tone with the EQ flat. If you have the strength look at some of the EBS stuff like the Fafner too. Personally I have never liked MarkBass cabs, i find them lacking in depth and a little 'boxy' sounding so I would avoid them and get either some Bergantino Stuff or EBS cabs. Used a huge range of cabs in the past, and my two EBS cabs have been the best by a long shot. Clear, punchy, powerful, and rock solid and I found even the proline stuff lightweight. I currently use a EBS 1000w RMS 4x10 cab and it is all I will ever need for live work. Get to a shop like Bass Direct or the Gallery and just see what clicks.
8.
interested in this? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=129144
Hi cheers for the offer. Got a few trade offers come in and I have made a couple too so let me see how those work out and I might give you a PM if yours is still available.
9. New price of £720 on this as I have decided that a 4 string Jazz is not for me. Got one trade I am keen on but would like a final attempt at a cash sale. Feel free to make me an offer. Nathan
10. Thanks for all the PM's, still here if anyone is interested. Pretty sure I want a 5 string again if anyone wants to make an offer.
11. I missed the Stingray BUMP Would be interested in Precisions as well, especially if they are PJ.
12. Cheers for all of the offers so far, forgot to say I am more than happy to ship this if anyone is interested.
13. For sale is my 2010 Fender USA Standard Jazz. It is approx 7 months old virtually immaculate, there is only one tiny blemish I can find and I can only just see it so the camera wouldnt pick it up. It must be very mild shirt button rash (I play too high for it to be buckle rash ) and to be honest I have seen new basses in shops with more marks. As you can see it is white with tort guard and maple neck. It is apparently artic white but it looks a little 'warmer' than artic whites I have seen in the past, and the neck has a satin finish with gloss fretboard and headstock. The bass comes with all the usual case candy tags, straps etc and Fender SKB case. Its been to a few practices and is a fantastic bass. The build is superb on a par with some more expensive basses and certainly no worse construction wise than my old Overwater Jazz V and the sound is classic throaty jazz. These really are brilliant basses, I have been seriously impressed by it since buying it and my band have all commented on it. So I am selling it because I went from 5 to 4 and find the neck just a little too narrow for me. I think I want something with more of a P size neck and I may even go back to a 5 string, we shall see! The same model at Guitar Guitar is £1048 I would like somewhere near [s]£820[/s] [s]£785[/s] £720 I would ideally like to sell so I am free to try a few basses and see what fits, however if someone has a good condition stingray 4/5 with case I would be interested, and to be honest I may considder other Fender inspired designs, just try me. I am in no rush to let this go just curious to try something else, if it doesnt go I may just buy a Stingray or P as well. 14. Have you thought about a preamp change? I would give Mr May a call and see how much it would be to add the new Overwater preamp which is by all accounts less subtle. It might just give you the extra oomph your after.
15.
just wondering but what custom bass did you play? I only ask because i saw that you where at the bass show, and had a go on a GB and if thats the case that bass you played with an ebony board might have been mine I love ebony to me it feels like the black maple, its so smooth and you get a real mid growl with it.
I wasnt actually at the show, just made enquiries about the GB basses that were there. The custom guitar I played was actually a Guitar, a custom built JJ Hucke and it was amazing. Very very jealous of you having a GB with Ebody board though. So it seems the general consensus is that Ebody makes no difference really! Well it still looks and feels beautiful so I think I would still like a Ebody necked bass. Currently eyeing up the roasted neck, ebody board Ball Family Reserve Stingray!
16.
No, they aren't stock - they were borrowed for the show. A few of them are a work in progress - e.g. backplates still to be made. The ones in the sale section on the website are show basses - he builds a couple of those every so often so he can add a bit of variety - for example, the current trend is walnut - so the flame/burr/spalted maple top one for example, was done to take to shows to add a bit more variety.
I thought I recognised a few of those basses, i thought it would be a little strange to have that many basses about at one time. I noticed a trend for the walnut, it is very nice though, I wouldnt say no. Just out of interest has Bernie ever made a bass with Buckeye Burl top? I have always wanted a bass made with it, it seems popular amongst some american luthiers like Elrick, Michael Tobias and Roscoe but I have not really seen it used by British builders much.
17. Just to say this is an incredibly made bass as you would expect from Overwater. It used to be mine but I had the same issue in that it was just a little too polite for me. Its a shame it has been through a few owners and it hasnt found a solid home yet but it will be right for someone. Good luck with the sale.
18. Still paying one off at the moment....bugger wont be able to get back in there for another purchase unless anyone knows a way you can do two simultaniously.
19.
London Bass Guitar Show GB stand porn!
I wish I had managed to get to the show, had to go to a wedding . I have had the pleasure of spending time with two Spitfires and completely fell for both of them. This thread along with the show pictures has just reignited my GAS for a Spitfire. Out of interest are all of the basses from the show "stock" or were they borrowed from their owners? I have found the for sale section on the site but was wondering if there would be any more added?
20. Lovely bass, are you interested in trades at all?
21. I dont think your the only one who has and does feel like this. I used to be seriously over protective of gear and to an extent I still am. I hate other people playing my bass and i watch it like a hawk when I set up for a gig. I think you have done the right thing and got your gear insured, that is the best safety net you can have. When taking my best bass out I just thought "what is the worst that can happen" if it gets stolen or broken insurance wil pay for a new one, yes I would be gutted but it can be resolved andI get a new bass. Warwicks are still being made as are my basses so it is not as if you would never find one again, not like losing a 69 Jazz or something. Enjoy your bass, that is what it is there for, get a good lockable case if you dont have one and keep it in that at gigs right up until you play, there is less chance of someone wondering up and fiddling with it.
22. I would say try and find a friendly basschatter with one near you or take a road trip and visit Mark at Bass Direct as he seems to have a few in at the moment.
