1. Congratulations, this was mine before Leprechaun, great bass. As far as I can remember (could be very very wrong here) the controls are: Bottom two - Volume (pull pot to make the bridge single coil) and pickup blend Top three - 3 Band EQ, Bass Middle and Treble I presume but you will soon figure out the order if not. Not sure what you mean by frequency centres but if you have any questions ring Overwater, Chris May remembered this bass when I called him about it. I remember the EQ is very subtle on this bass, it wont give you extreme EQ. I was on the verge of having Overwaters new preamp put in before trading it, might be worth a look at if you find the EQ is not doing what you need. Enjoy the bass, I love my current Overwater.
2. Hello, In July my girlfriends parents gave me this case for my birthday. At the time I had a Overwater Progress III which fitted perfectly but less than a month later I got a Overwater Jazz 5. For some reason a 36" scale Progress fitted but a 35" scale Jazz wont so since then this case has been sat in the cupboard gathering dust. The case has only been used a few times and is very clean and tidy. The only very small thing is that the front bit of the latches are slightly tarnished, no idea why, perhaps just because its been stored for a while. It is immaculate inside, with two keys and the latches work perfectly. I found these on Guitar Guitar for £79 I would like £60. I would also consider a trade for a Hiscox STD-EBP (the bigger Hiscox case) or good quality gig bag like a Mono or ProTec or IGIG with some cash adjustment if in good condition, but I will need to check measurements first. Any questions, feel free to PM me.
3. SOLD - pending the usual......
4. I agree with the other comments, £2000 is a lot to spend on an experiment. You can get some stunning basses second hand for a lot less. I picked up an Overwater 5 for £800 a while back, hand built stunning build quality and less than a new USA Fender. I cant remeber the scale length now but you can pick up a Sadowsky Metro for £1500 on here, and some of the new Dingwall fanned fret basses are well under 2k. I would say look for a 35" scale (or fanned fret Dingwall) especially is you detune and if you do get a 5 string put the 4 string away somewhere or give it to a friend for a while so there is no temptation to play it. I tried 5 string twice, the first time I had one with a 4 string played it a few times but always went back to the safety of 4. In this instace the 5 string was sold and i didnt try again for another 5 years. Second time I bought a five, played only that bass for a 2 weeks solid and then sold my 4 because I didnt see the point in it when you can do the same and more with a 5. I have never looked back. Mark at Bass Direct in Warwick has a huge range of basses in and will sit and talk you through every single one and discuss what you need in a bass.
5. Hello all, Up for sale is my USA built Eden WTX260 head. I have recently had to increase the power of my rig because of some big gigs coming up and I am likely to not have any PA support. I need to shift some serious air in the new 8 piece band and just need bigger gear unfortunately. I was hoping I would be able to keep this as a backup for gigs but I just dont have the money to keep it. The amp is about 2 years old and only gigged half a dozen times and then only used as monitoring as I have used the DI and gone through the PA. It is in fantastic condition with only one or two very very small marks which didnt show on the camera. It will deliver 300 watt at 4ohm and is very very loud for such a very small amp, a lot louder than my old Ashdown ABM head and so much smaller and lighter. It slots in the gig bag and just makes gigging so much easier. I have used this with EBS and Aguilar Cabs and it is very versatile with a huge range of tone, clean and punchy but no too sterile and handles a B string beautifully, even my drummer couldnt believe what this tiny little box does. The amp has some very handy functions accessed through the 3 band controls like the bass boost and mid shift control. It also has built in copressor/compressor bypass switch which is great. For a full list of features check out the Eden site: http://www.eden-electronics.com/products/a...div/wtx260.aspx The amp will come in original shipping box with power cables and the original manual. These are £499 new at Bass Merchant, The Bass Gallery has one in secondhand for £449 and the last one on here for sale was £350. I would like £300 or make me an offer, no trades sorry. I will ship this fully insured if anyone wants or happy to do a local pickup so you can test it out, I live in Cheltenham. Any questions please PM me. 6. After a few months of ups and downs with bands (mentioned in another thread) I have found myself needing some more power in the amp department. Normally my set up would have been fine but my drummer has a set up like Mike Portnoy from Dream Theatre (well not any more) and I have a keys player and a mic'd up 3 piece brass section to contend with. So without thinking too hard I headed up to Bass Direct this morning to sample the latest delights Mark has to offer. I played a few bits and pieces and have finally settled on a MarkBass Little Mark II and a EBS Neo 410. Simply massive sounding and LOUD! I have had an EBS cab before and loved it, crystal clear and tight, sometimes a little too clean so the addition of the MarkBass balances things out a little. Watch out brass section! The bonus of going up was trying out some of the best basses out there at the moment. I have played the Nordys and Roscoe's before and both are amazing in every way so just tried a few I had never played before and I was massively suprised by what I played. 1. First thing I saw was a Elrick Platinum 5 string singlecut. It was stunning in every way, B string was clear and tight and the whole bass was so well balanced. Simply one of the nicest basses I have ever played and the first singlecut. To be honest I thought I would really notice the extra bulk of the singlecut but it made no difference to playing and might have helped its fantastic resonance. I think mark is getting in their Jazz inspired basses and i cant wait to try one, Elrick firmly on the list and I usually only like more traditional designs. 2. Sadowsky Metro. Wasnt expecting much for some reason but a very nice bass, nice neck, fantatstic build and resonant, something that I look for in a bass. Generally a fantastic bass and very playable and one of teh nicest Jazz style basses I have played. 3. Alleva Coppolo. Sadly very dissapointing, after a lot of the hype I have read i really wanted this to be the best bass ever. Each to their own of course and everyones opinion and playing is different but I found the sadowsky more comfortable to play and thought it sounded better and had a bit more 'life' to it. Stunning build a looks amazing but did nothing in my hands. Anyway an excellent morning (the amazing bacon baguette from the cafe next door to Bass Direct helped) and Mark couldn't have been more hospitable. I bought secondhand gear which I doubt Mark makes much on, but he was happy to talk and chat, and I was treated like I was spending 10x the ammount. Once again an amazing experience at Bass Direct and massive thanks to Mark, once again showing how shops, not just music shops, should be run.
7. I have not been on here much recently as I was, and have been, going through a period of complete disinterest in my bass and bands in general and substituted it with mountain bikes! I was playing in two bands up until recently and despite the music being good and the people good to play with I was losing interest fast mostly due to the lack of gigging and practice. One band lost a keys player and did nothing for probably the best part of three months over summer, the other band couldn't get a drummer to turn up at practice or a singer most of the time and we havent practiced in nealry 2 months. So I quit one band last week as I don't have the time to be wasting and I need any band I am in to be making at least a little cash (originals never make money). Because of my lack of enthusiasm and sheer frustration of bands I thought "i dont need all this gear" and because of a lack of funds sold one of my cabs thinking it will be enough for practice as the bands are going nowhere fast. That was about 3 weeks ago and last night I had a practice with the covers band. I fully expected members not to be there, no enthusiasm and no gigs, and I get there prepared to say I am quitting and no longer have the time and energy for being in bands. I get in the room, everyone turns up, we play and it was dynamite. No practice for months and we were all on the ball and playing brand new tunes all the way through first time at a more than adequate level. Not only that, but there are three well paid gigs coming up in the next two months as a warm up! So I find myself supercharged with enthusiasm, wanting to practice more and now looking at replacing the cab I have just sold......here we go again! Why is it that i always seem to get so down about music on the verge of breaking point and selling everything and then something happens and I am right back up again? I have had so many ups and downs with bands and enthusiasm over the years, does it happen to anyone else? is it ever just uncomplicated and easy?
8. Not using Basschat much anymore so sorry to those who sent me messages and had no replies, the messages used to come through to hotmail and dont seem to anymore... Anyway this is sold but also tied up in an insurance claim with DHL who managed to mangle it in delivery and deliver it late despite paying extra for 24 hour delivery....god bless em, completely useless just as I suspected. Fist time I have used them, it shall be the last.
9. Hello, For sale is my Aguilar GS112, the one with tweeter. I bought two of these a couple of months ago as I had joined a new band that semed to be going places and I needed something modular for gigs and practicing. Unfortunately as is my luck, the band are not doing much at all and I cant see it ever taking off, so I am selling one as for now at least one of these is plenty for smaller gigs and practicing. The cab has stayed at home since I bought it as I only use one for practice and is in great condition. It has a few scuffs on the corners but no marks or tears or anything like that. It is light and powerful and has a fantastic tone and pushes some serious air for a small 300w cab. Two of these stacked is just awesome! I would like somewhere in the region of £240 as these are £399 new, but happy to accept offers. No trades unfortunately as there is nothing I need. I will considder shipping if you need it but I would prefer a pick up if possible, I am based in Cheltenham. Send me a PM if you would like any info, I will get pics up when I get home this evening. All the best, Nathan *edit for price adjustment and pictures.
10. Due to financial crisis and lack of real use, I am selling my Apogee One recording music interface. Apogee make some of the best recording equipment out there and this portable interface is no exception. Fantastic quality audio interface with Phantom power, XLR and Jack inputs, it has a built in high quality mic handy for acoustic guitars and scratch vocals, and even playing music through this makes a huge difference to the quality of tracks. Full details and spec can be found here: http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/one.php This comes will all leads and fully boxed and has been used less than half a dozen times (mostly because I cant work Logic) since I bought it in March, and is in near perfect condition. I can supply pictures if anyone wants them but I dont have a camera with me now. These are going for £161 new at digital village, I would like £125 or very near offer. Happy to answer any questions just drop me a PM. Many thanks, Nathan
11. Seth Lakeman - Poor Mans Heaven. Some fantatsic double bass which I can only describe as earthy and haunting. Fantastic music I am on the verge of buying all 5 albums on CD I love it so much.
12.
His playing on 'Room for Squares' and 'Heavier Things' is great. It's a shame and a surprise that he's not playing with John Mayer anymore-although Sean Hurley is really cool too.
I saw Shaun Hurley on Mayer's recent tour over here, good player no doubt, but not as interesting as DeLa. Saying that I think JM has tamed his music down a fair bit and it is very different to the tunes on Room for Squares which has a bit more pace and is a bit more complex for lack or a better word. I dont think DeLa could get away with playing like he did on Room for Sqaures on the newer Jm stuff so perhaps it needs someone a bit for tame for the new music.
13. I see some "heated debate" in the future of this thread I personally think Nicky Wire from the Manics is pretty poor but I think he writes a lot of their stuff or at least lyrics so fair doos.
14. I am just listening to John Mayer's first live album - 'Any Given Thursday' with David LaBruyere on bass. His tone and playing is just phenominal. His playing is busy but classy and really drives Mayer's tunes on. There is also some fantastic improv sessions particularly during Neon at the end. Go have a listen, great music and a brilliant bass player, a huge insperation for me.
15. Another recent convert to the world of modular 'small stacks' here. I have been through smaller combos with extension cabs, big combos on their own, and big stack stacks and can honestly say my back and gigging life in general has got better since I ditched big amps and 4x10 and 1x15 rigs. Combos can also weigh a huge ammount like my short experience an SWR Black Beauty showed me. Running an Eden WTX head and two Aguilar GS112 Cabs at the moment. The cabs are a one hand lift and with a lightweight head your laughing. I can do bass, gig bag with head, and one cab in a single trip. Planning on using one cab for practices and two for gigs and I can fit the lot in a small Ford KA it turns out. Its the future!
16. Thanks for all of your posts and kind words. I have had lots of messages and can say that this is now finally on hold for someone until Thursday when it should be going to a new home. I had a few people message me after sorting this deal out so if for any reason it doesn't go through I will get back to those people in the order they PM'd me to see if they are still interested. Thanks everyone.
17. If it was me the first thing I would do with that sort of cashmis get an Aguilar DB751 and two Aguilar DB112 Cabs. I never got on with Ampeg for some reason but that is a good option if they are your thing and they always seem to be popular and in fashion unlike some other amps. Just a note though, almost any amp will suit Rock/Metal IMHO. I have seen some seriosuly heavy bands using Ashdown, Euphonic Audio, Markbass, Eden, SWR.... the list goes on. I suppose it comes down to whether you want a valve tone or not to start with. Just find something you like and make it work for you If you want to be heard maybe go for a cleaner sounding amp. I heard a guy in a Cardiff based hard rock band using an EA Iamp, great sound a cut through guitarist no bother.
18. I just bought an Aggie Cab from Mark (Gunsfreddy2003) great cab in excellent condition, great price, great comms and a generally top chap to deal with. He even delivered it as I was unable to collect due to car troubles, highly recommended. Cheers Mark.
19. I have my new small cab so really need to cover the cost by selling this. Second and final price drop, now £285! Might head off to ebay in a week or so unless anyone is interested.
20.
Now that's a funky line up for a Bank Holiday Monday! http://www.hamptoncourtbeerandjazz.com/bands.htm Size Nine, Snowboy & JTQ on the Friday as well if that's your thang
You are a star for posting this, I would never have heard about it otherwise. Incognito and Brand New Heavies on the same bill, just brilliant. Got to think of a way to get the missus interested now!

12" Cabs

Apologies in advance for a massively shameless plug here, but I have a EBS Proline 2x12 4 ohm cabinet in the for sale thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=97033 They are amazing cabs, very clear, very punchy and despite not being Neo cabs are much lighter than anything else I have owned and no hassle to move on your own. For some reason you can pick up the Proline cabs quite cheap as everyone goes for the Neo. Its a shame because they are Incredible good and if you want another cab to go with it, I think Bass Direct have a few other cabs in the Proline series available used. Good luck with your search.
I recently bought a Marshall DBS7400, but don't yet have proper bass cabs to use with it. I've played it through one of my PA Cabs (15" + 8" + Tweeter) and the sound is montrous, even though its an 8ohm cab and the amp is designed to deliver its 400Watts into 2 ohm. Anyway, I seem to really like the sound of 12" cabs (more than 10s and more than 15s), and have been looking around for something suitable. There was a Marshall 4x12 cab going (7412), but this was montrously heavy (74 KG - almost 11 Stone!) and even then was only 4 ohm so still not getting the max out of the amp. So what I'm ideally looking for is a 2 x12" 4 ohm cab, able to take 200 - 300 watts continuous, with very high peak capability (The DBS 7400 can peak at 4000W into 2 ohm) Then I want another one exactly the same so that I can have one on its own, or 2 stacked to give me a 2 ohm 4x12 4-600 watt continuous rig, according to the requirements on the night. I'm guessing that two 2x12s would be a lot easier to handle than one 4 x12, and would also allow me to phase my expenditure. Also being 2x12's it wouldn't have to be lightweight stuff and hence might be cheaper. Marshall themselves used to do '7212' cab, 400W at 4 ohm, wighing in at 32Kg each, so a couple of these might be ideal, but I've never seen one for sale. Anyone got any suggestions (I haven't got a huge budget) Thanks in advance Clive.
