Does he sell them direct? I can’t even find a website for them, just a few sites selling them for over £200

I completely get what you are saying. I had an old DOD envelope filter because of Flea when I was younger. I had a lot of fun with it, but once you have played along (badly in my case) to chilli peppers songs, I couldn’t see a lot of use. Recently I saw a video of Ian Allison and he was using down sweep with other pedals and for the first time I heard where it could be used to replicate synth parts. I am a sucker for old funk and pop and now I am hearing the down sweep filter more. I must add that for now at least I am only playing at home, so I am hoping I can jam along to some tunes for the fun of it, I cannot think of any more than one song I would have played in previous bands where I could have got away with using a filter 😄

Can you run a 8ohm and 4ohm cab together using 2 separate amps
NJE replied to maxmckee's topic in Amps and Cabs
I would just use an ABY pedal to split the signal between both amps. I have thought about doing this with two combos for bigger gigs. You won’t do much better than this: https://lehle.com/EN/Lehle-P-Split-III -
There’s something not quite right going. I would try the head with different cabs or get in touch with Orange. I used to gig in a very loud band with a 350 watt head and really pushed it a few times and it never cut out.

Bought something, let’s see if it turns up ok. 😎

I am no pedal expert (I have two threads already asking for advice) but when you read a lot of reviews for various pedals, they all seem to reference the OC-2 and use it as a benchmark. As the 3Leaf pedals are like unicorn tears, I just went back to the beginning and bought an OC-2 and it’s great fun. It is the original octave sound you have heard on so many records. My octave journey may continue, but the OC-2 seemed the best place to start.

This is the conclusion I am coming to, everything that seems to get universally good reviews is really expensive and pretty much sold out apart from the AF-9. The Spectrum sound great and there’s so much flexibility, but I could see myself endlessly tinkering and not just playing and getting on with it. The Filter Twin is now sold so I am toying with a Discumbobulator. I could always sell it on if it doesn’t work out I guess. I am still intrigued by the Seamoon but need to look at how much they are.

Yeah I saw it within minutes of being posted and waited until I had dinner to message. Im still bitter 😄

I have just seen the FEA Photon Fuzz, another good option there as well as being tempted by the Malekko B:assmaster and the Latent Lemon Brassmaster clone.

🤣 got the octave sorted (for now) I bought an OC-2 from this very parish as it seems to be the benchmark for many people. Also chorus wise I may go cheap and simple and get the Boss or TC, or I do like the Providence chorus which is a bit more expensive. Got to focus on filter and then probably fuzz. after that it will be how to power it all and what order etc so expect more threads eventually 😄

I bloody love basschat! Thanks for your comments and suggestions. The last time I used pedals was 20 years ago so I am so out of the loop on what’s available. Some Of the suggestions are amazing, but also have some hefty price tags so it will probably be a case of waiting for secondhand pedals. I liked the sound of the BassIQ but it did sound a little milder than other pedals, but not worse. The Discumbobulator seems to be generally well thought of but the potential noise issue could drive me nuts as I mostly use laptop and headphones at home. The Maxon needs further investigation and so does the Seamoon. I have been loving some Neil Jason videos!

I have seen the Discumbobulator appear on a few high profile boards over the years, so knew it must be a decent filter. Is it not great in down sweep mode, or is just a slight preference to the Seamoon?

I am trying to build a pedal board of the bass essentials; octave, filter, fuzz, chorus and eventually a compressor. I have had some great guidance on fuzz but I think a filter might be next on my list as a few good ones have come up secondhand. I really want a down-sweep, so that leaves me with a current shortlist of: Aguilar filter twin EBS BassIQ Emma Discumbobulator Any strong recommendations out of those? Any others with downsweep that I should be thinking of that are readily available? I’d love a proton or wonderlove but they are like unicorn tears.

Just watched a great video of the Okto Nojs, I think that might be the closest to the sound in my head so far. The demo I watched didn’t have crazy wild fuzz and it had that higher harmonic going on. Oooh decisions….

This is an interesting watch:
-
I was thinking about the duality, but couldn’t find any demos that weren’t very ‘metal’ without someone playing super low and aggressive. I wondered if it did that cool harmonic like the Doom

Aren’t they silly amounts of money now? I need to go and have a google. I’m sure I have seen a fairly big company making clones??

Yeah that looks like Tom Kenrick’s bass. He does some great videos on YouTube under FreeBassTranscriptions. Incidentally I played a white VJ5 with blocks and binding that bass direct had in around that time. I loved it and handed it back to Mark and bought a few other bits. My wife was a bit quiet in the car in the way home and it turned out she was sad we didn’t buy the bass. I said I couldn’t afford and she said that “we could have worked something out”. I’m still gutted to this day.

Phenomenal reply and you have mentioned almost all of the pedals I have been reading about. Going to sit down and digest that when the kids are asleep!
-
Thank you for the replies, funnily enough a few of those pedals suggestions have come up in searches, particularly the Diabolik. The Way Huge looks interesting and I have saved a few YouTube clips to watch later. I did wonder if after octave and filter how much difference I would hear between a Doom2 or another good fuzz. There just seems to be so many types of fuzz and I didn’t know where to look for Doom alternatives.

I just re-read you post properly, I get it now 😄

That’s really interesting, I am thinking about ordering but it wasn’t clear to me what I would or wouldn’t pay. If I have to pay an extra 20% on top of the advertised price, it’s not far off a deal Andertons have, and given UPS are useless I think I would be better off buying from the UK and taking advantage of the 0% finance.
-
These prices are absolutely bonkers, a Rootmaster 500 Combo for £328 is just mad. I know Andertons we’re reducing prices on Ashdown but these are over £100 cheaper. My brain won’t let me process this, it’s just too good to be true.
