Right, very long time without the update I've been a bit lazy with this but it's done now, however I don't have any progress pics so here's a video for ya. on't pay attention too much to commentary from me Tell me what ya think
-
Haven't played one myself! What sort of money you want to spend on the bass for your son? There might be better deals on here than G4M...
Depending on precisely where and when I might be able to make it too.... No guarantees though
Will you bring your Berg ?
-
Hi guys, There were slight problems with the finish so Jon decided to re-do it! At the moment it's being buffed up so not long now until I have some porn for ya

So I might be in the market for a new speaker(s) in 2-3 months. Budget wise if I sell my Compact I will have about £1000 to spend so I was thinking along those lines... Aguilar GS212 x 2 or .... Bergantino AE112 + AE210 or .... Epifani UL115 + UL210 (UL310 if I stretch the budget) I only heard the Bergs from the list and in the next couple of weeks I'll be making my way to the gallery to try out the Epis and Aggies but I was wondering about your experiences and views on those as users Any problems wth any of the above, customer support, warranty issues, build quality issues ? What would you choose and why ? Cheers Jack
i think this is over priced you can by a new one from the bassmerchant for £1499 with free delivery to anywhere in the uk so bythe time you add shipping costs from poland it will be about the same price as a new one i would say worth more around the 1k mark
Yet proper reading would enable to see the free shipping to anywhere in Europe. In Poland those amps go for over £2400 so I think he is selling it at a good price. Rules are rule btw.

I haven't tried the Warwick Take 12 but I had the Warwick Sweet 15.2 and few years ago I had Sweet 15.1 and judging by my experience with them the Take12 wouldn't cut it mate!
I don't agree with you.
I think you're wrong there, you could easily achieve that with nylon strings.
I prefer the Roscoe, but then I'm biased.
This : http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...+_Coco_BEM.html

I see what you mean, but if they have to borrow the money from bank maybe we can organise a gig and then all the proceeds would go towards paying off that loan ? I don't think any parent should pay ''monthly instalments'' for their kids body, I think this will be a very depressing fact looking at the statements etc and remembering what it's for if you know what I mean...
-
Jack, I'm absolutely skint at the moment being out of work! Is there anything more we can do apart of the collection? Maybe we can quickly organise a gig for this cause? I reckon we could get quite a few bands and raise much more this way? Just and idea... Jack

Seeking advice on de-fretting a fingerboard

http://simnettguitars.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1569.0 See here, that's my bass being done -
Sorry to bother you guys again, but are there any alternatives in the price range (1500 euro = approx. 1444 GBP = 1648 USD), or is this the best choice? I want to be very very sure I can find little sound samples of the 1001RB-II on youtube to compare with other amps. I only played on an Ampeg SVT-3 before and I didn't like the sound, it was too dull for me, I like a little bit more punch/attack/definition, without losing the lows...
If you support UK businesses and buy the head from bassmerchant and the cab from gak then you'll save yourself about£120 and a lot of hassle if something goes wrong with either of them!

Extra deductions from fee by venue (Rip off?)
JackLondon replied to Mateybass's topic in General Discussion
If they removed £157.85 VAT from £902 gross takings to get the net figure, then whoever's doing their books should be shot at dawn. To be fair to the venue (unless it was agreed otherwise in advance), there's no problem with them removing the VAT element of the takings before any agreed further deductions and splitting. After all, the VAT element is never really part of their income -- it belongs to HMRC, who'll get it in the venue's next VAT return. It'll never go into the "Sales" ledger in their accounts. But if the gross takings are £902, the VAT element of that should be £134.34. £157.85 is 17.5% of the gross figure. So someone's screwed up the numbers. As for the PRS, that's what the venue licence is for -- you shouldn't be charged for that, unless there's some weird thing with tribute acts I'm unaware of. The venue expenses are cheeky, but it's the unfortunate nature of verbal agreements. So I'd say you were partially screwed and also the victims of an arithmetical error.
You do know that the VAT is 17.5%? -
Nigel, can you bring your Line6 as well? I wanted to A/B it with my Boss on the SE Bash but couldn't make so this is good chance
-
I wouldn't trust anyone from Denmark Street with my bass. If your close to northern line just go to Camden and visit the gallery, I'm sure the guys would also be flexible with the time etc.
-
you might want to check out the sticky in this forum section!

Before this topic dies on us! If anyone will be travelling from north London can I bagsy a lift? I'm about 5-10 minutes from north circular, in Wood Green to be exact Cheers Jack
-
Good call on donuts I remember that there was talk about setups etc around the SE Bash so I was thinking maybe we can speak to the boys in Sei about coming around ? I was even thinking maybe they could run some sort of a workshop on how to do setups. What you think?

Wayne, Your self-painted basses look very good. As you said you seem to have a thing for it which works in your favour I guess. My advice would be to do it and here's why : 1. As you said you enjoy it which means that you will take care of the instrument and finish it to the best of your own abilities. 2. You have a little bit of experience doing your own basses, turned out good so you should have some confidence in doing up someone's baby. 3. You can quite possibly offer a very good VFM service to those people who just want to change the colour on their low value instrument but don't want to pay £350 odd to a luthier. (Me for example) 4. If you get a few jobs in which will require you to order biger amounts of paint than you could get a trade account with paint suppliers so you can get the materials cheaper than your average paint shop which in effect means that the real cost of a job will be slightly lower. 5. You would only offer simple paint jobs, no flip paints, mirror tops etc. This will pretty much set your price in a different bracket than other options available there. 6. You could offer discount to those people who are prepared to do some work like sanding the body before sending it out to you etc. (Me for example) I could probably go on, but you can turn it around to your advantage and as many of the guys said you will have a market for it, the more you will do of painting the bodies etc. the more experience you will get which will greatly reduce the time it will take you to do a body. One thing I would suggest regardless of your decision is to probably write some sort of a guide that can be made sticky by mods in the repair section. I believe that many people do not realise just how much work has to be put in to achieving a good finish on a bass, even when it's just a solid colour and especially when it is a re-finish. In the end your not doing what this guys does for example : Click Me Cheers Jack
