Yes I mean popping with the ring finger. But I meant including the ring finger in your slap playing. I slap/pop with all four fingers (ring, middle, index and thumb). It greatly enhances your slap grooves and options.

I slap with all four fingers (thumb, index, middle and ring fingers). This greatly enhances the possibilities of slapping. You can slap four string chords, or multiple string dead notes and much more this way. And you can also use it for big string skips like in the video below. Anyone here using the ring finger for slapping? Not sure if you can embed videos here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GzV_j-0Ibk&ab_channel=NextLevelSlapBass

When you rake you can't skip a string. Raking is only happing when going to the next lower string.

Thanks Ron, glad you like them! Happy Slapping!

Last weekend my new album "Juvenile Fish Tales" was released on Subcontinental Records from India. First Bandcamp and physical CD and later Spotify and other streaming. I play 4 and 6-string fretless and fretted bass, guitar and sitar on it. Very proud that my bass hero Michael Manring is a guest on the album, doing a very nice fretless bass part and Ebow solo on track 7. Also we made a video together which will be released soon. Also four different drummers and some other guests are on the album. It's an instrumental concept album about Fish. Hope you like it! Let me know if you will. Best Wishes, Barend Tromp https://subcontinentalrecords.bandcamp.com/album/juvenile-fish-tales

I am not a big Myung fan. So I was only interested in this bass because of the 14mm spacing which I swear by for six string basses. Since you have no other option for 14mm production six string basses besides the Ibanez GVB I was very interested in this new Bongo. But I am really disappointed by the absence of tone controls. I wish they made this bass more versatile for more players by putting up the same Bongo electronics on it. I agree that now it is more for Myung fan boys who want exactly the same bass as him. They could have expand the market for this bass a lot more.

Totally agree, was really interested in this bass mostly for that super small 14mm string spacing. But I don't like the looks of the split fretboard woods. Think it looks ugly. Is there any reason for it besides esthetics? Can't understand at all why they left out all EQs. Maybe that's what Myung prefers. But I think 99% of the potential customers would prefer to have an on board EQ. At least a tone knob. But better yet the same controls as the standard Bongo. I think they would sell more if it had EQ. Now they limit their to customers to John Myung fans. So I would very much prefer a regular Bongo but then with the string spacing and neck dimensions of the Myung Signature. I don't like the wide neck and string spacing of the regular Bongo 6 and thought the Myung was the bass for me, but I am fairly disappointed.

Nice one Geert! Congrats... The fretless one from Kulit is also really nice. Have to admit I don't play my fretted Wal Shedua Mk1 that often. If I could ever exchange it for fretless Mk1 I would do it. Although I also still love my fretless Pro....

wow, that is an impressive collection! Not so fond of the block inlays and the little scratch plate on Wal basses though. But good to see that Paul herman is thinking out of the box.

I don't know because I have never detached the neck

I have had two of them. One didn't have any info. One did have a info sticker in it but I am not sure if it's from Wal or just some sticker that the previous owner had put in. I think normally they don't have an info label inside.
Now the case of the 5 string, I once had one.... and yes I do agree they are rounder sounding, but I'd think because the neck pickup is closer to the neck than the 4's.
Yes that must be it. The added mass and the different pickup placing will make the 5 string MK2's sound different than the MK1's. I have mostly played 5 string MK2's instead of 4 string ones and always felt they sounded less characteristic but on the other hand more allround and with more bottom and less mids than an MK1. I guess in a blind test I would easier pick out an MK1 as being a Wal bass than a 5 string MK2.

ok, claro walnut, that's new for me. The grain looks absolutely gorgeous. Hopefully for you you can buy it back once. I guess your brother doesn't sale that one?

Hi Mark, I have the same Pro 1 in fretless (see my other posts here for videos). Really like yours too with the red sunburst. I like the simplicity of the tone control of these one pick up Wals. I always feel there is a tonal difference between an MK1 and MK2. Especially between a 5 string Mk2 and a 4 string Mk1. An Mk2 sounds a bit more allround and less characteristic then a MK1 to me. Maybe because of the extra wood of the body I don't know. The walnut on your fretless MK1 looks a bit different than normal walnuts, really nice! Is that some special kind of walnut?

Great collection! I guess you still own all 6? (judging from the same amp in all pictures) two questions: 1) what do think of the pro I compared to the other basses? 2) how would you descibe the differences in sound between your two fretless basse MK1 and MK2? the fretless MK1 looks really nice!
