Tuner, that's it! Going out there and looking for effects for the sake of effects is a dangerous and expensive world. Just play, and if you find yourself in a situation where you think yeah a drive (or whatever) would work really well here etc. then go for it - but buying a pedal then looking for a place to use it seems backwards to me. IMHO of course

If you want to go up-market, how about the Sadowsky metro PJ?

Check out Focusrite, they make some good stuff like the Saffire which also comes with Cubase LE

If I were you, I'd get rid of the rack and put the markbass in a small carry bag. The cab is going to be the same weight or lighter than a decent size combo anyway.
