1. Pub gig we've played a few times before that had gone ok. This time we'd ended up on last (about 1030) when most people had gone and we'd had too many shandies because we were bored waiting to play. We'd learnt 'Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour' and were playing it for the first time, it started off well but in the middle the guitarists got it wrong, the singer followed whilst me and the drummer were doing the right bit. It wasn't pretty. In fact, I just remembered we recorded it ! Here it is for your viewing displeasure: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2xpb2_sh...kest-hour_music
2. A tactic for rejuvenating affection for an old instrument is not to play it for at least a few days if not weeks. Then when you come back to it feels fresh again, especially if you've been playing something else in it's place.
3. Mine seemed to function fine, the boost wasn't overpowering but I never for once thought there was a fault with it. Just checked the circuit diagram (here) and it states the circuit is a +3dB switch which sounds about right. Mine is currently in bits but i'll mention it to the tech when it gets rebuilt.
4. I've got some D'Addario Chromes on my Overwater after having rounds on it firstly. The difference is significant and I prefer the tone and feel of the falts, they've so much more musicality and bottom end, I am converted. When I get my RBX fretless running again I think i'll be stringing it E-C with flats.
5. £399 for the Overwater (Tanglewood) Classic J.. Or this overpriced Squier ?
6. I've worked out trading always give you something new, but you miss part of what you swapped too.
7. Ah, I was scanning for a £ sign and never saw one ! . No worries, looks a nice bass.
8. I love how Alan is keeping the UK 2nd hand market in business .
9. http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:amps:impedance_and_wattage
10. Rickenbacker 4003 (Fireglo) Musicman Stingray 5 HH (Blue pearl/white pickguard & Maple neck) An old Fender P or J (with plenty of mojo must be pre 1975, sunburst. Block inlays preferred !)
11. I got on with Warwick Reds (£11.50 a set on Stringbusters) on my MIM Jazz. They sounded fine and seemed to last well.
12. Helsinki (Finland) to Hemnesberget (Norway) ? Oh only 663 miles
13. I think he'd have to cancel rather than be seen with another make of instrument, I bet his endorsement deal has serious T&Cs.
14. I restrung my Progress with some D'Addario Chromes the other day, i've hardly put it down since ! They're fat and warm in sound but retain midpresence and top end if I dig in. Before I wasn't 100% happy with the roundwounds (Overwater light) as they lacked a little bottom end through the preamp and had to boost it most of the time to my liking. It is most true that a simple but often overlooked change of strings can rejuvenate an instrument and get you hooked all over again for not much cash.
15. My list is 15 basses in 9 years, only one have I had for a while (since 2003), the others less than 6 months. I expect the rotation will slow down as I am the happiest i've been for some time with the Overwater (despite a grass is green moment a few months ago). The T-Bird was something i'd wanted for years and has poor resale value so will probably stay too ! I think more will come instead of some going... now where's that Fireglo Ricky ?
16. The 55-02 I had was awesome, if it looked like the on in the video i'd probably have kept it .
17. What bass was it you got from your friend ?
18. Yeah, I want something from 1983 - but what was actually good back then ? It certainly isn't Fenders.
19. Moving to For Sale forum (clue is in the name ). Please also add a price, that is a requirement of this forum.
