1. My experience of Vintage basses is mixed, some of their range is very good (pricer stuff) but the low end stuff is well, low end ! I don't think the EST96 can even hold a dim candle to the Ray34, don't sell it.
2. It was the seller's name that got me.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE-GIBSON-THUND...3#ht_1331wt_905
3. I'll get down there at some point next year - not been to Mark since he was in the farm shed !
4. The ones that got away huh ? We all have our stories, I fear you may have more than most though .
5. When these first came out I couldn't stand the body shape, but I have to say it looks pretty decent in this configuration - the sunburst makes it look a bit less pointy.
6. Let's add this one in too.. purchased yesterday as a result of GAS.
7. I embrace the GAS, working with it is easier and leads to less guilt when it does finally break you. The T-Bird is an iconic instrument i've always lusted after but never pursued before. All I need now is a Ricky and a Precision ! EDIT: Just found this soundclip on the Epi website - sounds just like this for anyone curious . 8. Yeah i've already lowered the strap to the max, will do the obligatory strap button mod soon as well .
9. Looks like this chap is keeping me in a job... moving to correct forum.
10. Moving this to correct forum...
11. Went to PMT Birmingham today for a post Xmas browse with the missus had a bit of cash on me as presents received. I kind of knew what I was letting myself in for.. there'd be something there the same price as what I had in my wallet and i'd buy it. Well - there's no point evading fate is there ?! Saw this Epiphone Thunderbird on the wall, brand new for £199. Walked away with it for £10 less than that, very happy. Plugged it in at home and it does not disappoint - that thunderous grindy rock tone is in abundance. First bass i've bought since 2005 (seriously) as i've done nothing but trade for the last 5 years.
12. Please add a cash value to give people an idea of the value of this bass .
13. Yeah - a few years ago I thought coffee table basses were ostentatious and didn't offer anything really different to production instruments. There's still plenty of production basses I like and wouldn't rule one out, but I don't think i'd have one in place of the Progress, only to compliment it.
14.
I remember that holoflash Spector Matt, at that mini bash we had in Manchester some years back, I thought it was a great bass that.
Oh you mean this one ? To be fair I regret selling it - I could do so much more with it now than back then (2006 by the way).
15. Not that I remember..
16. Update time ! It's only been 3 years since the original post... Lots of movement here. Stingray swapped for Lakland 55-02.. cracking bass, just a little too polite 55-02 swapped for Warwick Corvette $$ 5... certainly not polite ! Awesome tone but couldn't get on with the neck And Corvette swapped for Bacchus Venus 5... Milleresque sound with top craftsmanship - slab body a slight annoyance. And Bacchus swapped for Overwater Progress III Deluxe ! This one is easily the best bit of kit i've ever had, not sure what else could top this really.
17. I have a Zoom guitar effects pedal that works perfectly well for bass too, but I generally use it as a headphone amp only. Have had effects pedals in past but really - for me there's no point in having an expensive bass if you're going to completely wipe it's natural tone out with effects,
18. £25 discount for fundamental QC flaws ? Sounds like they don't want the hassle of sending it to Yamaha. You can't make the Distance Selling Act apply if they're outside the UK can you ?
19. And at that - I will close this thread.
20. Since this has been edited to death by multiple persons it's hard to see the facts as they occurred. I have PM'd Beedster for his take on the situation and will also do so with the seller.
21. There I fixed it ! . By texting phatmonkey...
22. Try another browser - no such issue for me in Chrome or IE9 . EDIT: Actually, now I see it ! Will speak to phatmonkey. Looks like search has an issue too.
23.
I think Fender is done with Mr Hamm, he took a bit of a pause at Bass Day when he announced the Washburn thing.
I think i'd feel asleep whilst he was telling that story ! Don't remember him saying at all..
24. 5 for me. I find 4's easiest to play and 6 is a bit too much (having owned one for a year), never did use that high C. I think my playing and knowledge has developed to the point I might be better in a 6 string now though.
25.
To be honest how many suppliers keep their websites totally up to date? Not just musical instruments – anything. I always phone before ordering online to check if it's in stock.
Their stock system should be linked to their website in order not to mislead customers. It's not hard to implement.
