1. Shonks, let me know if you want this thread removed and then you can post a new one with the correct info and none of the debating .
2. It's a terrible forum, you haven't got a chance of a fair discussion in there, far too much bias. Fair enough it is administered by the company itself - but their attitude is very pompous and arrogant, they will not accept criticism. I'm sure once someone got flamed for wanting to replace the OEM pickup and discussing what would be a good replacement, apparently discussing 'competitor products' is very rude.
3. Pretty damned good. Maybe a little treble heavy on the snares but I may be talking crap (like usual) .
4. What I found most unusual about that video was the 8 string bass. I'm getting harder to shock...
5. That is truly insane. How does it do on batteries ?!
6. Wow that's beautiful, bet it won't last long.
7. Escape to Wolverhampton ? Sheesh, talking about frying pan into fire .
8.
Speaking as an unrepentant, dyed-in-the-wool prog rocker, I agree with you 100%. Dream Theater are a horrendous celebration of seemingly endless simultaneous instrumental masturbation, topped off with caricature 80s cheese-rock histrionic squealing. Never before in the course of musical history has any band quite so roundly failed to get the point of the "music" they endeavour to create. Unrelentingly wretched.
Argh, blasphemy ! It took me a lot of listening to 'get' Dream Theater, and I mean all of their albums about 3-4 times each. Their music is very contextual and mostly has to be listened to as an album rather than a collection of singles. This is definitely the case for Scenes From a Memory and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. John Myung is amazingly talented but alas does exhibit the personality of a cadaver, his playing is generally supportive rather than extravagant. p.s. I don't usually bite but this one struck a nerve . I'm sure dood will support me on this !
9. Comes with box, screws in good condition . Took this off a Stingray I sold a couple of years ago, been in storage since ! Would swap for BT7 (to fit MIM Jazz).
10. Agreed on the bargain, i'd snap your hand off if only I well, didn't already have one .
11. Really ? I thought it only opened a year or 2 ago ? Went there with my Dad last year and was quite impressed with the place. That said it didn't strike me as well located and we were the only people there..
12. Mój poduszkowiec jest pełen węgorzy ! Welcome to the forum .
13.
Saw him live with Dream Theatre, and that has to be the worst gig I have ever seen - period. Talk about a band comprised of egos instead of musicians! sh*t!
*looks for ban button* .
14. West Bromwich ?! Sorry, I will type slower for you . I'm just round the corner by the Scott Arms, small world !
15. I think you should get yourself down to a decent shop with an open mind and see what catches your eye. Bass Direct (here) would be ideal for this, they've got a huge range of gear you don't see in many places and what you're looking for (whether you know it or not) is likely to be there.
16. Hi Ryan, where you from ?
17. He must have thought it was something else, it's the only explanation !
18. My first thought is that you'd be better off saving up and buying a Fender Miller Jazz ! You should be able to get one 2nd hand for around £650. However, if you've grown seriously attached to that one then stick with it. If you do go for it make sure you keep all your original parts so if you ever do sell the bass, you can downgrade it back to standard as you NEVER get a decent price for an upgraded bass. Also are there cheaper options than the M-Retro or are you set on that look ?
19. Posting pics of your bass will likely increase interest .
20. Nice one, i'd have been gutted if anyone but me ended up with it .
21.
I must have got one of those when they first came out. It was so "first gen" that it didn't even have the Wilkinson pickups! The neck pocket was slightly shoddy, however there was some flame in the maple of the neck which was nice. It sounded pretty dire now that I look back, and played awfully as I strung it with Rotosound Steve Harris flats, which sounded crap and were unbelievably stiff.
Yep that's what I put on, it was very dull and they were like steel rods. I chucked them and put some old roundwounds on and it was a lot better, chewed the fretboard a little but was worth it for the tone.
22. Vintage V940FL for me. Unlined fretless neck and bubinga body, good concept but badly executed. The electronics were shocking, never seen such messy wiring in my life - they didn't even bother to blow the sawdust out of the cavity before putting the pots and EQ in. Neck pocket had a 1mm gap around it, terrible. That said it played well just sounded a bit weak due to the EQ.

Yamaha BB's

I am also confused as to the point regarding 'a Japanese guitar'. My Bacchus is MIJ and is flawless.
24.
After trying a number of high end basses included Sadowskys, Celinders, Nordys, Alleva-Coppolas etc I still have to say that this NYC is one of the best among them. One of the best even among the expensive Fodera models I have tried so far. It's a true Fodera, even if they make it in Japan. Are they too expensive? One may think so looking at the simple design and short list of options. But considering the wood choice and the overall building quality I think the price is right even if these basses wouldn't have a certain butterfly on the headstock.
What do they start at, what cost for options etc ?
